Charlie is helping to clean the the Teak onboard our floating home sailing catamaran, Emma James. We are using the Just Teak kit from GreenCorp and we are tackling all the spots we have teak onboard; back bench, cockpit seats, dolphin seats, and the shower. The shower was the most tedious part getting into all the holes but so satifying in the end. The most satisfying to see the before and after were: the back bench seat and the dolphin seats at the bow. EP 79 - Offshore Boat Races - Nationals, Clearwater Beach (Sept 2023) It’s that time of year again! The offshore boat races come to Clearwater Beach. This race is for the Nationals that is sponsored by the Race World Offshore. There is a practice day and the following day we take our friends boat out to watch the races live along the race track that is approx a 2 mile run from North Clearwater Beach to the Pier at Clearwater Beach. This is in preparation of the Finals that take place in November 2023 also put on by Race World Offshore. The finalists from this race make into the finals round in Key West which I believe is televised on Race day. We were not able to make it down for that race but it’s always fun to watch them in your own back yard. We enjoy the practice day by just anchoring outside of the race path where on practice day only they will get super close and buzz right by you. It’s super fun and exhilarating to feel the boats and see the rooster tails they can throw off their boat. The drivers and crew are all pretty relaxed and fun people to hang around with after the race! This is a race recap of our Three Bridge Fiasco race in 2024. Just a note that it was a boring start to the race, and between that and the need to explain the format of the race (which is very unusual), the start of the video may not serve exactly as a "hook". Unfortunately, I can't make the start more exciting... but if you stick with it, things get more exciting 💥 We finished 3rd in our class, after two J-125s and before another J-125, and we finished 5th out of 300+ boats... unless you apply the 20 minute penalty that the race committee thought we earned by entering the starting box too early. Either way, we had a great time, and can't wait to get out there next year! We also had a jib halyard chafe through mid-race, requiring a quick halyard change to re-hoist the jib. Fun stuff! Can't wait to go up the mast and rerun the halyard!

Being inspired by a book and without any sailing experience or doubts holding him back he went looking for a small boat that fitted his budget. He found a Hurley 18 from 1970 for 3000 euro’s and bought it. After fitting it out for longer trips he drove it to Greece on a trailer and learned how to sail it with a friend. After sailing across the whole Mediterranean towards Gibraltar he felt ready to cross the Atlantic. Sailing all the way to Antigua from Lanzarote took him 30 days. And after some sailing in the carribean and some time back in Europe to work. He fixed up the boat again and prepared it for the upwind journey back towards Europe. As this adventure has come to an end Nico is working on his new adventure. Non stop around the world on a Class40 boat.
