We are repairing the sail bag on our boom. This weeks episode is Part 2 of repairing our boom bag. Our sail bag is in great condition and we love that we have mesh along the bottom of the bag to help with water drainage and helps prevent the sail from going mouldy, but the zipper is buggered, fraying, coming apart and needs to be replaced. We are repurposing and upcycling an old boom bag to help us do the repairs. Along with the zipper we are also taking about a foot of extra material for our bag to make it easier to close. We found a $10 handheld sewing machine in a fabric store (Spotlight) and we are giving the machine a go at repairing the bag. We have a lot of confidence in this little machine as we have just stripped off our entire zipper and the bag is now wide open - if the machine doesnt work we are hand sewing this entire bag! Last episode we prepped the bag, the new zipper, and extra material, now it time to sew. Are we using the machine? Will the handheld sewing machine handle the boom bag? Or are we hand sewing? Testing the 585 SUV #1 in calm waters in the Gold Coast Seaway, Australia was a pleasure. Like all IPS-drive yachts, its turning radius is greater than it would be with a straight shaft and rudder system. It is reasonably quick to plane with a low bow-up attitude and is super responsive to the helm. In oltre 25 anni di attività nella nostra storica azienda, che vanta più di 40 anni nel settore nautico, abbiamo affrontato diverse crisi, inclusa l'inaspettata pandemia mondiale. Questo ha portato a grandi oscillazioni nel mercato, passando da momenti in cui nulla sembrava possibile, a periodi di alta domanda senza sufficienti risorse. Adesso, nel marzo del 2024, affrontiamo una situazione unica, in particolare dopo un 2023 caratterizzato da elevati stock di barche e motori nei concessionari in tutta Europa. Con l'avvicinarsi della nuova stagione, le vendite hanno ripreso, e le case costruttrici di motori e barche, come Honda, Suzuki, Mercury, Yamaha, e altri, offrono promozioni eccezionali. Nei miei libri, come 'La tua prima barca', ho sempre sottolineato l'importanza di comprendere il mercato prima di procedere all'acquisto. Anche se il panorama attuale è cambiato, gli approcci emotivi all'acquisto restano validi. Nel 2024, il miglior momento per acquistare, sia barche nuove che usate, è proprio ora, a marzo, o al massimo in aprile. Questo perché ci troviamo alla fine dell'inverno e le offerte disponibili sono al loro picco, e tendono a diminuire con l'inizio della stagione. Inoltre, il mercato dell'usato sta vivendo una nuova concorrenza con quello del nuovo, offrendo opzioni più economiche. Questa è una scelta soggettiva e dipende dalle preferenze personali di ogni acquirente. Repairing our boom bag, Can a Handheld sewing machine handle the boom bag? Let's Find Out! We bought a $10 handheld sewing machine at Spotlight (the fabric store) and we are going to see if can handle the boom bag and use it to do some sewing repairs. The zipper on our boombag is showing wear and its time for a new one so we are ripping it off and upcycling an old boom bag from another boat to help us repair our bag. There is also another twist, we are taking extra material from the upcycling boom bag and going to put some more material on our boom bag. EP 80 - Flexible Solar Panels Installed Sailing Free Spirit Today we come back to finish out this project and complete the installation of the 8 flexible solar panels that are going on top of the Bimini. This is a temp installation as we have plans in the works for a new hardtop that was decided we needed to install to have the larger 450 watt panels installed and the hard top would support the weight of those panels. These soft flexible panels are 100 Watts and were placed in both parallel and series and tied down for install and then wired in for connectivity. Jon Olsson's a Swedish Vlogger with great taste in boats first introduced me to Iron Boats (his video below) and ever since i've been trying to get a ride on one. So wow... this is a boat that has achieved simplicity of design, simplicity of operation and simplicity in transport (important for Aussies/Kiwi's) and the result is a boat that you will think nothing of using in a wide variety of sea states, and due to the RIB like function of the fender you will also benefit from super simple operation around docks and other boats. This boat provides a lot of what brands like Axopar give you in terms of convenience and performance but at a cheaper price point and with less complexity. It has just enough to enjoy a day out and nothing else. It makes up for that by just being one of the fastest and most enjoyable drives you've ever had. Seriously consider this if you are looking for a RIB, trailerable boat or adventure boat alternative. I actually has so much fun i'll be filming a Part 2 later this year on some more Iron Boats to test them further up the East Coast of Aus. I predict this could be a future cult classic in Australia. From W.A to the Goldie and the entire East Coast you can imagine a lot use use cases for this boat so let me know your thoughts.
