“Fresh to frightening” was how the recon team described Monday’s session for Emirates Team New Zealand as they took the chance to push Taihoro in very top-end conditions that saw speeds rocket and the loadings increase exponentially. Demonstration sailing from the Defenders of the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup, this was a statement of intent as well as a vital commissioning day that tested the AC75 to its outer limits. #AC37Recon Report https://shorturl.at/aijoD SUBSCRIBE to the official America's Cup channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/americascup Like America’s Cup On Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/americascup Follow America’s Cup On Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/americascup Follow America’s Cup On Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/americascup Stay up to date with the America’s Cup newsletter: https://www.americascup.com/en/newsletter The 37th America's Cup will be Defended in Barcelona by four-time America's Cup winner, the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron represented by their team, Emirates Team New Zealand. #AmericasCup #AC37 #Barcelona2024

After the disappointment of the session on Saturday being curtailed by a small technical issue, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli docked-out their achingly beautiful AC75 into near-perfect conditions for a Sunday commissioning sail of the highest order. Bristling with power, poise and real stability despite the legacy appendages, Jimmy Spithill and Francesco Bruni (later swapped out with Marco Gradoni), ramped up the intensity and began releasing the boat’s potential. For Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli, it was an early dock-out in Sardinia as the team hoped to catch some early morning light airs to begin working up the new boat and getting through the commissioning phase. However, Mother Nature had other plans and the mistral blew up quicker than expected and caused the team to drop down to the small J4 headsail. A very short foiling run was abruptly brought to an end after less than a minute after the Italians broke a component onboard that created a ‘snowball of problems’ according to Francesco Bruni, helmsman as he said: “Today we were fighting a little bit with the weather, we knew that the breeze was going to come up, it came in a little bit earlier than what we were expecting, and we had an early morning to go out and catch the early lighter breeze, but the breeze came in earlier. But we were pretty happy with what we had, we hoisted the very small jib, the J4, and were hoping to have some good sailing, unfortunately we broke a little piece of the boat that created a snowball of problems and we had to stop the day to fix it for tomorrow but that's life, we knew that when you are commissioning a new boat you have to you have to deal with those things.” SUBSCRIBE to the official America's Cup channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/americascup Like America’s Cup On Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/americascup Follow America’s Cup On Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/americascup Follow America’s Cup On Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/americascup Stay up to date with the America’s Cup newsletter: https://www.americascup.com/en/newsletter The 37th America's Cup will be Defended in Barcelona by four-time America's Cup winner, the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron represented by their team, Emirates Team New Zealand. #AmericasCup #AC37 #Barcelona2024
Blue skies, flat water, temperate air and a light breeze that barely registered above 8 knots made Saturday afternoon in Barcelona a tricky prospect for Alinghi Red Bull Racing’s continued commissioning of BoatOne. In conditions that would have been un-sailable in 'BoatZero', they made the best of it in the AC75 they’ve internally nicknamed as the ‘Batmobile’ that certainly appears to have all the firepower of its comic creation. #AC37Recon Report https://shorturl.at/eiB29 SUBSCRIBE to the official America's Cup channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/americascup Like America’s Cup On Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/americascup Follow America’s Cup On Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/americascup Follow America’s Cup On Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/americascup Stay up to date with the America’s Cup newsletter: https://www.americascup.com/en/newsletter The 37th America's Cup will be Defended in Barcelona by four-time America's Cup winner, the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron represented by their team, Emirates Team New Zealand. #AmericasCup #AC37 #Barcelona2024
INEOS Britannia, the British Challenger of Record representing Royal Yacht Squadron Ltd for the 37th America’s Cup, has revealed its AC75 race boat for the very first time. The 75ft vessel, code-named RB3, emerged from the INEOS Britannia base in Barcelona on Saturday 20th April for rig stepping and checking in preparation for her first sail. It was the first time the race boat had been in public view after two-and-a-half years of design, build and fit-out. In this video we pick up after having spent some time in Santa Barbara, and doing another trip to Santa Cruz Island. On our way back we made awesome time, doing the 21-mile trip in a little over 2.5 hours, and surrounded by excited dolphin for large chunks of time. After spending some time in SB, we found a weather window to go up to start harbor-hopping up the coast, back home to San Francisco Bay. In advance of that weather window opening up, we staged ourselves at Cojo anchorage just inside of Pt. Conception. From there, we rounded the point and next spent a couple days at Sansimion - our favorite anchorage so far on the California coast. That's where I end this video. Our final two legs to Monterey and then San Francisco will come later. We hope you enjoy!

Do you want to see more sail boats on this channel? Let me know if you enjoy sailing too, or should I start a second channel just for sailing..? I think the Jeanneau 350 Sun odyssey is a mass market yacht that will appeal to the mass market (surprise, Surprise 😅). But seriously it has some excellent design ideas from a sailing perspective to social ans living aboard. Sailing has always been a strong point for Jeanneau and this shows in the 350 Sun Odyssey. I just wish the breeze stayed in so I could have shown you more… Enjoy FOLLOW https://www.instagram.com/dansboatlife/ https://www.facebook.com/dansboatlife SUPPORT https://www.patreon.com/dansboatlife https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/dansboatlife?country.x=AU&locale.x=en_AU CONTACT www.dansboatlife.com.au/contact
Sailing Soccer Mum - A cruiser and family friendly guide to Townsville, Queensland. We have been in Townsville for a couple months and we have found some wonderful (and FREE) places to visit, see, and activities to do with kids - and bonus is that they are all within walking distance from the marina. Breakwater Marina- Walking distance to the supermarkets (Coles and Woolworths). Great Staff, you can be liveaboards in the marina. The facilities include toilets, showers, laundry area, bins and there is a courtest car for hire ($10 for 2 hours) Castletown Shopping Center - A bit further of a distance but it is certainly a fun day out. They have a Play center (free) for kids, supermarkets, BIG W, doctors, optometrists, cafes, shoppes, and lots lots more. We really enjoyed going to the Teddy Beat Tea Time out on during school holidays - a free event for kids! Townsville City Library (Flinders Street) Located on the second floor of the building, and it is free to become a member. They have free wifi, a crafts table for kids, and a kids courner filled with books, toys, dress up, and a tent! We really enjoyed our time at the library. Museum of Tropical Queensland Free entry but they do put on special exhibits and the special short time ones are a small fee. They have a science area that you can easily spend hours in with kids and lots of interactive activities and hunts to do around the museum. On the top level (and the far back) is a giant tropical tree with a slide and activity for the kids. Lots to see and very interactive. ________________ Welcome to Sailing with the James's! For the Swiss, this was the crescendo, defining moment of the campaign to date. After the razzmatazz of the reveal, the coming-together at the boat launch on Tuesday and the first tow testing and sail fitting on Wednesday, Friday 19th was the designated day to go flying – and what a moment. Arnaud Psarofaghis described it beautifully saying: “We had a few system checks before we actually could do the proper sailing for the first time we say ‘Okay let's try and see if we can build speed’ - it came actually pretty quick, and we just saw the boat speed coming up and we say with Bryan (Mettraux) just give it a go and sheet on and the boat came out, so it was really impressive and I think we can learn even more to make it happen earlier, but today was a fantastic day... the first feeling was above expectation to be honest and we're looking forward to the next sailing days.” SUBSCRIBE to the official America's Cup channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/americascup Like America’s Cup On Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/americascup Follow America’s Cup On Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/americascup Follow America’s Cup On Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/americascup Stay up to date with the America’s Cup newsletter: https://www.americascup.com/en/newsletter The 37th America's Cup will be Defended in Barcelona by four-time America's Cup winner, the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron represented by their team, Emirates Team New Zealand. #AmericasCup #AC37 #Barcelona2024
In Cagliari with a windy mistral breeze blowing into the Bay of Angels, the original plan for Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli had just been to set the sails and check systems but the sailors simply couldn’t resist a little tug on the sheets to go flying for the first time. It was only a few minutes but the smiles after were real. The team are eyeing a better forecast on Saturday to start laying down some miles and getting the manoeuvres in on this highly technical but stunningly beautiful AC75. Max Sirena was delighted with the day saying: “Today is actually day zero, finally we hoisted the sails, in reality the plan was only to hoist the sails and check the geometry but then once you're there you want to try to sheet in. I think it’s great, I think it's good to go out hoist the sails, get the jib sheet and mainsheet on and pop up on the foil. The over-riding take-away from the early commissioning phase of the new Emirates Team New Zealand AC75 is one of smoothness personified. As the sailing team wind up through the commissioning gears – and even with legacy foils – what we’re seeing is a boat flying at a consistency both in a straight-line and through the manoeuvres with an ease of purpose and simplified execution. Fast, agile, powerful and stylish. This Schaefer Yachts 660 is a big boat with lots of moving parts yet with modern tech she feels at about the limit of what most competent owner operators would feel comfortable using without the assistance of crew. So if you're the kind of person that enjoys being in control of your vessel but wants the space and options that only a bigger boat provides then this 660 is worthy of your consideration. She's definately more on the sporty side by the way she drives so if you desire that feeling of speed and banking into those turns then this is a boat that's going to give you that feedback. Naturally you can just chiull out a bit and drive slower and keep everything calm for your guests but my point is that you have the option on this boat to have a bit of fun where as on some other sports yachts in this size you're not going to get this type of feedback. It was the Marquess of Anglesey that commented in 1851, when he saw the radical yacht ‘America’ in British waters for the first time: “If she’s right, we must all be wrong.” And there’s a real resonance of Anglesey’s words when you see the Alinghi Red Bull Racing AC75 up close and personal. bolina: (s.f.) [A]. We've had a bad experience with our Lewmar windlass. I love the low-profile of the gypsy and that the chain/rhode has contact with the gypsy 3/4 of the way around, but the motor, and in particular where they put the overheating cutout wire, is not well thought out. I found in the previous motor we had that it would let water in through that wire opening, and the motor rusted from the inside out. Also, the external-facing components of the motor (screws primarily) are not up to the challenge of the marine environment or living in an anchor locker. We had the pleasure of using the windlass about 10 or so times before it died... not from use though... from sitting in the anchor locker. As an attempted fix for our the windlass motor that Lewmar sent us under warranty (after some contentious discussion), I cut the overheating cutoff wire that we don't use anyway, painted the entire motor other than the connectors, with Rustoleum, and sealed the overheat cutoff-wire opening with two layers of flex-seal tape. This second motor has lasted longer then their first... next to die (I can see it) will be the relay. Hopefully this works to lengthen the life of the motor... but we'll see...next to die (I can see it) will be the relay. Fun times with our favorite game of "apply salty brine and see what happens!"
In this first beercan race of the 2024 Richmond Yacht Club beercan series we had TWS of 24-28 knots. It was a very spicy race for the upwind leg in particular with an AWS of 32-35 knots. We had a single reef in the main, and a 100% jib. Thankfully, there wasn't enough fetch to get too much chop, but it was still a fairly exciting ride. Oh! On the night of April 14th, 1912, not long after RMS Titanic struck an iceberg on the North Atlantic, several of her passengers and crew spotted the lights of a mystery ship on the horizon. Tragically, this ship, now thought to be the Leyland Liner SS Californian never responded to Titanic's distress signals. What happened on the Californian that night and did she watch Titanic sink? They couldn’t resist it and who could blame them? Emirates Team New Zealand took to the Hauraki Gulf on Sunday in their brand new AC75 with the sailors itching to get going and push fast through the commissioning phase. No nonsense as always, the day was efficient, despite the team leaving the mainsail inflatable bag that sits between the mainsail skins, back on the dock and having to send a chase boat in to get it. 0:00 Interview with Dan Bernasconi, Chief Technical Officer: Emirates Team New Zealand 5:20 Highlights Emirates Team New Zealand - 14th April 2024 SUBSCRIBE to the official America's Cup channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/americascup Like America’s Cup On Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/americascup Follow America’s Cup On Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/americascup Follow America’s Cup On Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/americascup Stay up to date with the America’s Cup newsletter: https://www.americascup.com/en/newsletter The 37th America's Cup will be Defended in Barcelona by four-time America's Cup winner, the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron represented by their team, Emirates Team New Zealand. #AmericasCup #AC37 #Barcelona2024
Our fresh water tank is good enough to have baffles, but unfortunately the structure of the tank around those baffles keeps failing, causing a leak. We've since reinforced this space with wood to both hold the tank into place and prevent deformation in the tank that cracks it... we still have not solved whatever issue is going on with the vent though.

What is a “Cruiser”? Realities of the Cruising Life - Part 3 of 4 We continue the story up to our present day circumstances, the resolution to our "nightmare" boat purchase, and introduce to you what our plans are going forward. The notion of what it means to be a "cruiser" is discussed...ultimately, it means being adaptable, self-reliant and flexible. I discuss how that has applied to our own unique experience, and how the experience has leant itself to the cruisers I work with and help out through my professional services and involvement in the cruising community. And what all that means for our latest ambitious project, the sailing school! Not just another sailing lesson, or well intentioned yet misguided "coaching" service, but a real hands-on sailing school informed by a lifetime of sailing, seven years cruising, several years as a full-time professional/licensed yacht broker, providing real-life informed advice and guidance to boat buyers and students of the "cruising life" for what you really will need to know and consider as you embark down this road on your sailing journey!

Cagliari, the city that just surprises at every juncture, didn’t disappoint. Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli launched the boat that every Italian fan, the sailing-mad ‘Tifosi’, hopes will win the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup and bring the trophy to the magnificent Island of Sardinia. In front of Miuccia Prada and Patrizio Bertelli, the new boat was unveiled, blessed by a priest and quickly splashed. And what a beauty she is. Easily the best-looking boat of this cycle, retro-cool style is everywhere, with the silver sheen hull resonating in the early Spring sunshine, kicking off its heavily arched forms and its deep nod to deck aero.
