After setting sail from Roccella, Italy towards Crotone we had a three visits from dolphins. This one was the best as I got them swimming by the bow and jumping out of the water. Der Weg dorthin ging über Bornholm, eine Ankerbucht, sowie die Inseln Christiansö und Utklippan. Mir ist damit ein Riesenstein vom Herzen gefallen, habe ich doch damit bereits die Hälfte der Meilen nach Stockholm hinter mir...auf jeden Fall die anspruchsvollsten. Damit habe ich auch wieder volles Vertrauen in mein Boot; im Winterlager hatte ich dieses ja teilweise verloren. Ach ja: und jede Meile hat sich bisher mehr als gelohnt!!

While we were out at Spring Break in Kaunertal we hooked up with British rail crusher Will Smith for a quick Top To Bottom run through the park. Will was riding a 143 girls powder board and put this run down on the very first try.

KARL got a little brother this week, a Banana-Boat, that can be rowed, sailed and motored. What an awesome new fleet member! Last week was full of preparations to go for a trial run. I mounted my brand new self tailing Andersen Winches and the second main sheet that was still missing. And besides some other thises and thats, I probably spent a whole day to store away all the tools and parts that had been lying around inside KARL. I never bought s/v Moonshine with the intention of living aboard, but sometimes things just make sense. So January 1st, 2014 I moved her to a liveaboard marina and began my new life of simplified living. Rowing the Duo dinghy with inflatable collars fitted (although it is still missing the bow ones). These collars act as fenders when coming alongside, buoyancy in case of flooding and add extra stability as the boat heels. I was surprised how much extra stability they give. I did not try to push it to the maximum, but I will later in the year, right now the water is too cold! EDIT: I now have fitted a single longer fender on each side. In September I will be fitting "dinghy dogs", a purpose made collar I am rowing at 4 knots on my gps, which is hull speed, so about the maximum possible Duo is also a sailing boat, the next video I post will be of it sailing. In the week that Thailand falls under marshal law... the top coat is now being applied and the masts look like new. Goy's paint team are working on various lids and covers too, leaving just the topsides and deck to paint. That won't be until the toe-rail 'cuts' have been smoothed and the cockpit box finished though. Meanwhile the cockpit seats are complete and the varnishers are doing a fantastic job on the floor.
