Sailing to Nusa Lembongan on my friend's catamaran, a #lagooncatamaran This mini adventure takes us from #bali and over to the neighbouring islands, which consist of 3 islands, #nusapenida, Nusa Ceningan, and Nusa #lembongan south east of Bali, Indonesia. When my Australian friend Sam invited me for a short holiday, I was not dificult to ask, and jumped on board his beautiful Lagoon 440. Knowing how much money people spend on holiday here to have this kind of adventure, and even being only the two of us, makes you feel privileged. Sailing in Indonesia and especially from Lombook to Bali can be pretty challenging for several reasons. Outside the monsoon season, there is barely any wind, but strong ocean currents. During the monsoon season, you can experience extreme winds and lots of rain. And many sailors visiting these waters find themselves in big trouble. The past year has been spent planing and preparing for this journey and every obstacle carefully considered, spare parts are ordered, Boat is full of food, fuel, water and we have done our best to complete the test/shake down cruises as much as we could given the amount of time that we had. Everything has been sold and notices turned in... There is no going back now... I **motori ausiliari per barche** si utilizzano principalmente quando il **motore principale non funziona**. Sono fondamentali per garantire una propulsione alternativa, ad esempio per rientrare in porto in sicurezza. Sulle barche sotto i 10 metri, il motore ausiliario è quasi sempre un **fuoribordo**, spesso stivato in un gavone e montato all’occorrenza. ### Come si utilizzano? Il funzionamento è semplice: si prende il motore fuoribordo dal suo alloggiamento, lo si installa all’esterno, lo si accende e si usa per spostare la barca dove necessario. Tuttavia, è importante sottolineare che **averlo non basta**: un motore ausiliario inutilizzato da anni difficilmente si avvierà quando ne avrai bisogno. ### Motore ausiliario sì o no? Qui si apre una questione importante. Se possiedi un **motore ausiliario**, devi mantenerlo in perfetta efficienza, **esattamente come il motore principale**. This episode takes us from Carbost to Ardmore Bay, enjoying a beautiful sail until our VHF suddenly stops working. With safety in mind, we run tests to track down the fault before heading off again. The next day we enjoy a sunny, perfect sail north to the Isle of Harris, dropping anchor in a quiet bay all to ourselves. With the weather warm enough for a swim, Matt even dives down to collect fresh scallops for dinner the best kind of reward after a day on the water! But sailing life always brings surprises… the following morning our windlass finally gives up completely, leaving Matt to haul up the anchor chain by hand, injuring his hand in the process. We manage to motor round the corner to the Isle of Harris Marina, a beautiful, community-run marina with everything right on the doorstep. The staff couldn’t have been friendlier, and we even treated ourselves at the local deli. Matt takes apart the windlass, finds the culprit, and (thankfully!) manages to get it fixed. Argh! I'm repairing the exhaust hose on my Catalina 30 sailboat in this episode. We had a leak and have to diagnose & repair the problem to keep the boat from taking on water while under motor power. I had to replace the exhaust flap and hose to keep the boat dry while using the engine. We ordered the replacement exhaust flange from http://CatalinaDirect.com. While Biotherm and Team Holcim-PRB have edged slightly ahead, Team Malizia remains locked in a fierce three-boat battle with Allagrande Mapei Racing and Paprec Arkéa. After rounding Ibiza and Mallorca, the IMOCA fleet is now pushing towards “Waypoint Charlie” off Porquerolles, where unstable upwind conditions could shake up the rankings once more. With less than 24 hours to the finish in Nice, the game is still wide open. On board Malizia – Seaexplorer, the crew has been fighting through a hot and sticky Mediterranean night, sailing downwind along the northern coast of Mallorca with little to no rest. Even in light winds, there was no pause: constant trimming, headsail changes, and strategic calls kept the team on their toes. Now, fresher reaching conditions are finally offering some relief, as the crew powers north with determination and their eyes firmly set on the French Riviera.
