Hi everybody - Impi is a catamaran sailing around the world having left South Africa a number of years ago. Here we are sailing the east coast of Australia, and in this episode, we sail from Moreton Island (Tangalooma) across Moreton Bay for Scarborough Marina. We find the town delightful and some historic interests too. But, our real treat is sailing up the Brisbane River into Brisbane City Centre where we drop anchor just in time to encounter a fairly wild storm. The last miles of my amazing adventure sailing in winter from Amsterdam to Ibiza. Brigitte and her son Ingmar are here with me on the boat the last miles of this incredible adventure. Can't believe I am finally reaching the beautiful island of Ibiza after 9 months on the water :) 90% of the people I spoke where surely I would die along the way, and sometimes they got close to being right. But my little Seahorse proved to be strong as a tank and withstood heavy weather, water coming in and running a ground. This old metal boat from 1969 pulled me trough it all. I am grateful for all the people that supported me on this trip and hope you enjoyed sharing this voyage with me. Diesel heaters are effective heat sources on a liveaboard yacht, but they do need to be started properly. If you have too much fuel in the heater before you light it, you will have to deal with the heater "running away" where the excess fuel causes the heater to burn out of control. In a tiny Mexican town, we work against all odds to successfully build a stitch and glue nesting dinghy, the Fishbote 11 by Bateau Boats. As novices, we learn quite a bit about resin and fiberglass as our dinghy comes together. Being in a remote location, we have to do a bit of searching for suitable materials, improvising when we can’t find what we need and struggling with a less than ideal workspace and conditions. However, in the end, it all comes together. This is the second of a three-part series. We have used Minwax Spar urethane for years now inside our boats and wanted to try a true varnish on the exterior. This is a test on a small section of the toe rail and some miscellaneous cuteness from the little swab.
