This Video: The Element Crew arrive at the Island of Milos with its dramatic landscapes and rugged coastline. Milos is historically famous for mining obsidian during ancient times and continues to provide raw materials to the modern world. There we meet up with Katarina whom we met in Mykonos and she gives us a brief tour of the island, while her boyfriend Nico advises us to visit the rock formations of Kleftiko. We then set sail and head east for the Island of Thira (Santorini). About Us: We are a Canadian family of 4 from Vancouver, Canada. We had the fast paced life with long, slow commutes, we had good careers and owned the big house, but something was missing….. I'm searching for a new yacht and find a very nice one in Brisbane, Australia that ticks most of the boxes. Photoshoots in Australia, France, Switzerland and Austria keep me very busy but its now nearly time to head back to Australia and check out the new floating home. Hello NAMIBIA!!! The fog clears and there is LAND, and Luderitz is our first Namibian stop :) After one of the easiest check-in's ever we explore this awesome little town. First order of business- Mr. Brady visits the biltong shop where he finds a secret love potion from China, which he promptly tests on the girl crew. We happen to arrive just before the 10 year anniversary of the Luderitz crayfish festival- the biggest party weekend of the year! We eat heaps of lobsters, dance our little hearts out and meet some incredible locals. Before setting sail north we explore one of the absolute highlights around this area, The Ghost Town! Previously an old German settlement for the diamond workers and their loved ones in the 20th century, it was abandoned and swallowed by the desert. She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘blar bar mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Another week, another broken boat part! Today's episode features the water pump which has always been a bit iffy. It packed up again, so instead of Nick spending an entire morning fixing it (again), we decided to just order a new unit. Very sensible of us. Unfortunately a 2 day wait turned into a 2 week wait, so we were without running water for a fortnight. Ah well, that's life on a boat! It was a full on week on Inspire, we said a sad goodbye to Rohan’s Dad Greg who was heading back to New Zealand after a 3 month holiday in Europe. We got the last of our list of jobs done before my Brother Jo arrived. It was so awesome to see my Brother on our yacht, we took him out for his first sail on a Catamaran but unfortunately there was hardly any wind…… but it was an carm day so we took advantage of it and went for a sup around the boat and then some surfing behind our Cat which was insane!!!! An epic bucket list item was ticked off by sailing through the Corinth Canal, which definitely lived up to the hype. A super cool transit through from the Ionian Sea to the Aegean. Luckily we were joined by two mates Willy & Kamilla who then spent the next week with us island hopping. Willy was super helpful to have on board when our watermaker decided to pack it in, and voluntarily spent almost 4 hours in the bilge with Adam trying to remedy the situation. We will be forever grateful (even though they didn’t fix it…). Fortunately Kamilla and I made the ultimate ladies team, and managed to score us free water from the local yacht club! So we could finally wash ourselves and reflect on how bloody important some things are and how difficult they can be to get when living on a boat. Be grateful peeps!! Lyman-Morse Boatbuilding, with support from the Cruising Club of America and the Ocean Cruising Club, hosted 120 guests for a Designers’ Forum on Saturday, October 21st. Nine recognized naval architects arrived from across the country to participate. Guests came from throughout New England to attend. The event began with an Open House at Lyman-Morse in Thomaston, with designers on site to showcase their latest work. After a break for lunch, a capacity crowd gathered at the Farnsworth’s Wyeth Center for a Designers’ Panel Discussion and Q&A segment. The themes for the two 45-minute discussions were Yachting Today and Tomorrow. Aaron Porter, Editor of Professional Boatbuilder led the Tomorrow session with panelists Peter Boyce, C. Raymond Hunt; David McCollough, McCollough Yachts; Scott Jutson, Jutson Marine Design; and Jim Taylor, Jim Taylor Yacht Designs. Catamarans versus monohulls in the Americas Cup and the effect on the market; the greening of the marine business and types of boats we’ll see in the future were some of the topics covered. Besides the designers and naval architects, the events were attended by other notable people in the industry including professional sailor Cam Lewis, yacht interior designer Martha Coolidge, Kevin Burns, designer for Back Cove Yachts, The Landing School’s Jaimie Houtz and Scott Teas architect of 250 Main. Un caméraman et un monteur avaient embarqué 40 jours sur « Le Nivose » Frégate Porte Hélicoptère de la Marine Nationale pour nous offrir ces images exceptionnelles tournées au milieu de l’océan Indien. Encore Bravo et merci à la Marine Nationale, à TF1 et Nefertiti Production qui ont monté cette belle opération !
