Shortly after leaving Fort Lauderdale's Las Olas Marina and heading south on the ICW we had a shock of a lifetime when the propeller stopped and the engine quit abruptly without any warning! We soon found that we had ran over a LARGE piece of plastic while approaching a bridge. We didn't have any other further problems motoring the ICW and soon made it to Miami FL! We anchored in the Bay of Biscayne for 2 nights and then once the wind calmed down a bit we got a mooring ball at Dinner Key Marina. We were very impressed by how nice the facility was and the amazing service they have for their guests! We needed to find new filters for our water maker b/c the ones we had got dirty while we tried to clean them. We found what we needed at Shell Lumber located on the same stretch of road as the marina! We highly recommend going there for any of your boating needs! We made pudding that night which Randall accidentally burt. We didn't eat much of it, but it was still fun to make and laugh about. The next morning we left Dinner Key Marina and traveled through the Biscayne Channel and south to Elliott Key where we anchored in preparation for crossing the Gulf Stream early the next morning! Moose, or Mouss (in French) is a well known island dog who was abandoned on an island after a hotel closed down. Moose was the only puppet of the litter who refused to leave his island even after many attempts were made to have him removed. Moose became a legend amongst sailors sailing the waters of New Caledonia - he loved his island called Casy Island where he eagerly greeted sailors with a bark and number of twirls on the beach before taking them on a grand tour. When we sailed into New Caledonia, we enjoyed our first encounter with Moose and felt heart broken to leave him behind when we left the territory for cyclone season sailing down to New Zealand. Instead of sailing for Australia as part of our around the world tour, we decided to sail back to New Caledonia and provide the You Tube Community with an update. Moose was not well and so began our journey into what would become for us, many visits to New Caledonia, involvement in Animal Welfare in the territory and also a friendship with many people all to do with a link to Moose. We managed to raise funds through our channel to fly in a vet called Guy Kane who treated Moose and it was through these efforts that we became involved more and more. Coming at you from Marina Seca Guaymas, we get onto the real work, starting at the local lumber shop. We purchase plywood for a waterproof deck box and to make repairs to our dinghy. Ty gets to work on some gelcoat repairs for Varuna and builds a box on deck for our compressor. This video reviews sailing your boat with just a jib. Sailing with just a jib is convenient for a short sail, or for handling high winds, but raises some issues requiring the helmsman's attention. We'll cover those issues for your learning. If your boat has an unusual rig, check your operator's manual regarding sailing with just one sail. The wind changes from a SW to a NW and we head off from the Balaerics towards mainland Spain. Because of this we have horrible cross waves that make it an extremely uncomfortable trip and Sarah struggles to manage the seasickness. Adam has to take over the cooking and sailing and for that we say muchos gracias!! It's been quite a while since we talked to anyone else other than ourselves as the Formentera islands are very quiet at this time of year. So excuse the craziness Sarah brings to the table.... We finally arrive at Cartagena, stretch our legs and get straight back on board towards Gibralter where we plan to stop off and wait for a good weather window to shoot down to the Canaries - Yay!!
