Herbstliches Absegeln...auf dem Seeteufel, einer Jeanneau Symphonie ...zu fünft an Bord. Nach dem Frühstück und der Dusche legten wir bei Nebel und grauem Himmel in Sønderborg ab und nahmen Kurs auf Marstal. Nach kurzer Zeit klarte der Himmel auf und wir hatten vollen Sonnenschein ❤️ Der Wind war konstant, aber schwach. Die See war ruhig. So blieb Zeit um sich zu entspannen, auszuruhen, nachzudenken, zu träumen... Zwischendurch übten wir das MoB (Man over Bord) Manöver, kochten Milchkaffee und Nudelsuppe, kletterten zum Spaß in den Mast oder putzten unter Deck. Abends tauchten wir spontan in ein kleines Impro-Theater ein und kamen kaum aus dem Lachen heraus... Gegen 1Uhr in der Nacht legte noch Timo mit seinem neuen Wohnschiff an. Es war für ihn die erste Fahrt mit der Christine und er war dementsprechend angespannt. Robert und Jan gingen an der Hafeneinfahrt an Bord, wir Mädels nahmen die Leinen vom Steg aus an. Hat alles gut geklappt. Anschließend gab es einen Sekt.

We finish up the repair to the rudderhead, and then return to the mast. Twelve coats of varnish are the order of the day--or fortnight, really--but not to worry, dear viewer, I will not make you watch varnish dry. Then we are on to the rigging, where I talk about putting on seizings rather than splicing braided rope, and how I deal with wear on the mast tangs.

This is it! After years of preparation, we’re finally untying the dock lines, leaving our homeport, and pointing our bow south. Our first stop is Chicago, Illinois. It’s 50 nautical miles from Racine, Wisconsin, to Belmont Harbor, where our friends Katharine and Jon have offered us the use of their mooring ball — and their apartment which overlooks Belmont Harbor! — for the weekend we’ll be in Chicago. During our sail south, we pass our old neighborhood, Rogers Park, and reminisce about the time we spent years ago walking that same beach, looking out over the water, dreaming about living aboard our own boat one day. Now, looking back at that beach (also where Kirk proposed to me) from the water, our dream has become reality. In Chicago, we meet up with Will and Kat from the YT sailing channel, Monday Never. They invite us for dinner, and we discuss fishing, the Caribbean and get tips for our own adventure when we reach warmer waters. The weekend is full of festivities. Our friends and family travel to Chicago to participate in our boat renaming ceremony, to wish us bon voyage, and even celebrate my birthday. High times at Harbour Island High!  Ahoy YouTubers!  While Phillip and I have hauled the boat out and are preparing for this monster named Micheal to bear down on the Florida coast, I thought you all could use a fun video I put out a couple of weeks back at HaveWind.   These high-flying kite-surfers were also at Harbour Island on a boat when Phillip and I were there, back in March of this year, only their boat was just a smidge bigger.  Owned by a billionaire.   Yes, with a B.  It’s amazing the potluck of people you meet while cruising.  But, they were super humble and a lot of fun to “hang” with … get it? : )   From Spanish Wells, Phillip and I decided to hire a captain to help us navigate through the treacherous coral-ridden path, known as the “Devil’s Backbone,” into Harbour Island, and we spent a fabulous three days exploring ashore, kiting our a$$es off (with the billionaires!), and hiking the south side with Brett and Kristen from Life in the Key of Sea.  As we share work from our time in the shipyard this summer, it’s also fun to remind ourselves what all of that hard work is for.  Flash back to one of our last stops in the Bahamas this past March with a fun video and photos for you below from our time in Harbour Island.  Enjoy! https://havewindwilltravel.com/2018/09/23/bv21-to-harbour-island-via-the-devils-backbone/

On this episode we start the installation of my new chart table and I introduce my first mate Camille to my YouTube family! For all of you who follow me on instagram Camille is a familiar face but this is our first video together with many more coming in the future. In this video we install the base of the chart table that I had made at home out of plywood and painted. Then we test out, cut and adjust the mock up top and face which we will use as templates for the laminated finish plywood I will be using for the actual desk top and face. We also look at the cardboard templates for the back panel and switch panel that I will be cutting out of the same laminate plywood and I talk about the future layout of the new nav station !
