We were propelled towards Zante with 46 knot winds. As much as we relished this, we did have to wise up in the end and seek refuge on the island of Kefalonia. When we finally reached our intended destination we were completely blown away. None of us wanted to leave... Until the day we did actually need to leave and customs was shut. arge seas rolling into the Rade de Toulon’s open southeasterly side prevented racing on the final day of the 2018 GC32 TPM Med Cup, last event of the GC32 Racing Tour. The eight foiling catamarans ventured out on to the race course ready for a midday start. While 18-20 knots of wind is usually sailable for GC32s, building waves effectively made it ‘survival conditions’. If racing had been held, boats and possibly crew would have been damaged, reasoned the race committee, who finally raised ‘AP over A’, signalling the abandonment of racing, at 1350. The GC32 TPM Med Cup is the final event of the GC32 Racing Tour 2018 season. www.gc32worlds.com

We thought the second part of our trip would be a breeze after the storm, but there was still plenty happening on board to keep us on our toes. The genoa not furling was a potential mast breaker. Luckily, we discovered the problem in moderate winds and could deal with it before it became a bigger issue. For the eagle eyed among you, you will see that we did have the genoa back on and furled when we entered Fijian waters. The wind had dropped considerably to the point where the full genoa was needed to maintain boat speed, and lord knows we needed that (We certainly didn’t set any records with our slow crossing). When we raised the sail again it must have lifted the internal sleeve, that had dropped and was causing all the problems. Unfortunately, this solution was short lived. The genoa sleeve is yet another part of the boat that we will need to replace now that we are in Fiji. When we landed our first fish, Rob was able to make it all about him! Getting impaled on the fish hook looked pretty sore, but Rob made light of it. If it had been me there would have been a lot more made of the whole affair. And what about Finn going overboard. Prep prep prep!! That’s what happens before we have guests on board. And this time is no different. We are joined by Adam’s cousin Louis and his girlfriend Mercedes, who have left school to venture on a gap year around the world, and have decided to start their adventure with a 3 week trip on L’Attitude Adjustment! Lucky kids… We pick them up from Raiatea and flit across to Bora Bora on a small 30nm crossing. Turns out one of our guests isn’t as sea worthy as he thought he was… But we make it and the smiles are back on as we check out this famous resort-ridden island. It truly is one of the most beautiful of French Polynesia, but with its resorts and restrictions, we only spent a short time checking it out as I doubt we will ever go there by plane! We clear out of French Polynesia here as it is the last port of call, even though there are still some other islands further west of Bora Bora. Thankfully they allow you to continue on and visit the other islands, even after you have cleared. This saves us having to trek back to the larger island to clear out and obviously brings a small amount of tourism to these smaller islands. It was cold and windy but we had a job to do! Film the start of the second race of the Gold Cup Series for Royal Akarana Yacht Club regardless of whether we could feel our fingers or not. Breeze was delivered and so was the chop. We almost lost our gear thanks to a "rogue wave" but thankfully AP from Doyle Sails with his trusty sidekick Tom saved the day and took us on board so we could continue. Nice work by the boats and crews who made the startline - you all looked fabulous! Race 2 of the Gold Cup Series was hosted by Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron (RNZYS). As Tony wasn’t expected back to Lyttelton for another 12 days, had no form of radio contact and, suddenly, after a life-time spent on water, was now afraid of the sea and how he would survive? This is an inspiring story of survival as Tony battled through nightmares, hearing voices, loneliness, and absolute vulnerability. Tony’s is the longest-known survival on the Tasman Sea in a life raft. Tony kept himself busy during the days lost at sea, his mounting depression, and how he rationed the little food he had. Tony had to deal with the realities of living in a slowly-sinking raft and being constantly soaked by the sea and tells of his and his extremely lucky rescue. Rebuilding a historic sailing yacht – Two Amazing Projects / Old Boats get New Lives. Support; See links below! ----- EPISODE 34. This episode I visit two incredible projects that are both happening in Cornwall UK. They are both giving new life to traditional wooden fishing boats, but they are doing so in very different ways! Charlotte and Jess have rebuilt and converted their wooden fishing boat into a motor launch with a banquet table, and have started a business taking people out around the Cornish coastline for hand-cooked meals on board. Steve is maintaining and repairing his 110 year-old Danish Fishing Trawler, which has begun to work once more – but this time she is fishing for garbage! Steve has been clearing up rubbish and trash from the Cornish coastline for years, but now plans to use the huge fishing schooner to scale up the operation and clean less accessible areas, raising awareness of the issues of marine plastic waste at the same time. Sprinkle over dish. Dot with butter Cook for 30 mins (bubbling) Brown under the grill Mmmmmm… mmm
