The fantastic Lorient-La Base was once again buzzing with excitement for the Défi Azimut. Now in its 15th year, the event brings together 12 pairs of skippers on their Imoca foiling 60 footers for what was to be another intense, festive and friendly week. Ray Davies of Emirates Team New Zealand recently made a vibrant stop in Naples, Italy, ahead of the upcoming Louis Vuitton 38th America’s Cup, and was left in awe: of both the city and its sailing conditions. “This is Naples. It’s unreal!” said Davies. “From what I’ve seen in just two days, it’s absolutely sensational.” Having competed in Naples during the America’s Cup World Series events in 2012 and 2013, Davies returns with fresh eyes, now envisioning the AC75s racing across the iconic Bay of Naples. Thomas de Dinechin's mast broke during the 56th edition of La Solitaire du Figaro Paprec in September 2025. De Dinechin was sailing aboard the boat, Almond for Pure Océan, when the dismasting occurred. From roll-out at dawn to dock-in at sunset, here is a full day at the Cagliari Base lived through the team’s eyes. The fleet leaves the dock for the sailing session while design team and shore team monitor every detail, from onboard systems to radio communications. The conditions for the day were similar to Tuesday but with a forecast of strong southerly winds arriving mid-afternoon, so expectations were for one or two races. After a timing error from New Moon, Otto made the best of the start of Race 3 and led uop the first neat and down the run. However, they picked the inshore gate mark while New Moon rounded the offshore gate into the slowly shifting breeze. New Moon took advantage and took the lead to win from Otto with Enez C'las II a solid third. Week 6–8 of the Mini Globe Race 2025 brings a mix of paradise, emotions, and new beginnings. After thousands of miles across the Indian Ocean, skippers reach the stunning Cocos-Keeling Islands — white sands, turquoise waters, and a brief taste of heaven before the challenge continues. But even in paradise, homesickness creeps in… and sometimes a new haircut means a fresh start!

We just sailed 172 nautical miles from Malaysia to Thailand 🇹🇭⛵ After months in murky waters, we finally reached crystal-clear seas where we can dive right off our sailboat. #sailing #racing #sport #challenge #dinghy #race As part of this year's 150th Anniversary celebrations, the RYA put together a team to take part in West Lancashire Yacht Club's iconic 24 hour dinghy race. The race won event of the year at the RYA Affiliate Awards 2025. The RYA's team was made up of just over 80% of female sailors all of varying abilities from a race coach to a complete beginner and everything in between. Ahead of the event Adam McGovern (RYA North Regional Manager) got a team of volunteers together to get the boat prepped and repaired. The boat was purchased & upcycled with a small budget of £300 (£150 to purchase & £150 to repair), showing that you don’t need to spend loads of money to go sailing, just the willingness to learn some new skills and get stuck in! It also has stopped a once competitive boat from being left in a dinghy park for years to come, this is key for a more sustainable approach to sailing. Following the event, the boat has been donated to WLYC to support more people with getting out on the water racing. With three hurricanes roaming around the Atlantic basin it wasn't an ideal time to be completing our Atlantic circuit! We did have what looked like a decent weather window to sail from the Azores to Portugal but we always knew with all the disturbance the Atlantic was not at its most stable. Hurricane Gabrielle was making its turn near Bermuda and all the models had it disappearing into the Northern Atlantic. 🌊 포항 영일만의 첫 경험 지난 9월 12일부터 14일까지, 포항 영일대 해수욕장 앞바다에서 열린 세일링 시합에 다녀왔습니다. 전국 각지의 바다를 경험하는 것은 세일러의 큰 즐거움 중 하나인데, 이번 포항의 물결은 특히 강렬한 인상을 남겼습니다. 시합 첫날, 처음 두 경기를 마친 후 무풍이 되어 해상에서 바람을 기다리고 있었습니다. 그러다가, 눈 깜짝할 새 상황이 뒤바뀌었습니다. 갑자기 바다에서 거친 강풍이 몰아쳐 경기 수역을 덮쳤고, 결국 시합은 취소되었습니다. 그 거친 해풍의 변화를 미리 읽어낼 수 있다면 얼마나 좋을까, 하는 주제넘은 생각이 들었던 첫 날이었습니다. ⏳ 기다림 아쉽게도 다음 날은 종일 바람이 허락되지 않아 단 한 경기도 치르지 못하고 대회가 마무리되었습니다. 하지만 세일링에서 "기다림"은 경기의 일부입니다. 바람이 멎은 시간, 우리는 배를 점검하고, 동료 세일러들과 담소를 나누며 시간을 보냅니다. 이번 시합은 특히 경기하는 시간보다 배를 싣고 나르고, 이동하고, 바람을 기다린 시간이 훨씬 길었습니다. 그럼에도 불구하고, 그 모든 과정이 세일링의 일부임을 아는 세일러들은 그 시간을 기꺼이 즐겼습니다. 🚢 이번 포항 대회는 블라디보스토크-포항-상하이를 잇는 환동해컵 대회 기간 중, 참가 배들이 포항에 머무는 동안 열린 "이벤트 대회"였습니다. 비록 J70과 J24 클래스의 경기 운영은 다소 미흡했지만, 전국에서 모인 같은 클래스의 세일러들과 반가운 얼굴들을 만날 수 있는 자리여서 그 자체로 의미 있고 즐거운 시간이었습니다. 예측할 수 없는 자연 앞에서 겸손함을 배우고, 같은 것을 바라보는 동료들과 함께 시간을 보내는 것, 이것은 세일링이 주는 매력 중 하나입니다. 곧 다가올 다음 시합에서는 자연이 우리에게 바다에서의 시간을 부디 허락해 주기를 기대합니다.

We are extending our wheelhouse so that we can have a full cockpit enclosure AND move the mainsheet from the top of the aft cabin to above the wheelhouse (better safety and a better sheeting angle). This is the first prototype frame (will extend to the full cockpit width) so that Jane can start making the rest of the soft enclosure. We are now living aboard our Rival 38 Centre Cockpit full-time while finishing a refit so we can launch ASAP. Our grand plan was a west-to-east crossing of the Atlantic, and we set sail with high hopes. Initially, everything was smooth sailing, but sometimes, sailing, like life, doesn't go according to plan. Our journey took an unexpected turn when we were battered by relentless rain and squalls. To make matters worse, our windvane broke—for the second time! With 2,200 nautical miles to the Azores and only 70 to return to St. Martin, the choice was clear. It's always better to face a delay than to tackle a major problem at sea. So, very disappointed, we turned back, getting drenched by a huge downpour on our return to St. Martin. We repaired the windvane, bought some new foul-weather gear, and found a better weather window.
