We finally make it to the other end of the Caledonian canal and once again set sail, after getting our sailing yacht back into the sea, on the west coast of Scotland. Our plan was to head for the Irish Sea before sailing over to Ireland, when said plans are rudely interrupted by a powerful storm, which meant changing course and sailing for shelter, whilst waiting for it to blow over. In this episode we explore our ABSOLUTE favorite spot in the Bahamas, Rocky Dundas and Rachel’s Bubble Bath. We wake up early to a beautiful sunrise and sail south before the tide drops too far. We don't want to get stuck on these shallow banks and sand bars. The wind started to pick up just as we raise the sails and we get to enjoy our breakfast while cruising along. We make a detor so we don't run aground although it did add an extra time to our sail. Our favorite saying is that it’s about the journey not the destination, so we have learned to accept the detritus as a part of the journey. As we approach Rocky Dundas we decide to anchor at Fowl Cay (AKA Chicken Cay). Once we drop the hook we realize the beach is private. So we will have to dinghy over to Rocky Dundas for Oona's walks. We head over to explore Rocky Dundas a little later than we wanted but we can always go back if the current is too strong. When we get there there is no one around. Perfect! we get the place to ourselves! There is a decent amout of coral surrounding the entrance to the south cave. When we enter the cave we're taken aback by how majestic it is. After having a little fun filming we swim back to the dinghy and work our way over to Rachel's Bubble Bath on Compass Cay here in the Exumas. There is a shallow river that takes you right to the bubble bath. The water is cold and we have the place again to ourselves for a bit. The waves come crashing in from the ocean over the rocks and into the pool causing you to fill like you are taking a lovely bubble bath. We set sail for Eleuthera which is over some deep deep blue water loaded with pelagic fish like Mahi-Mahi (aka Dolphin or Dorado). We always try to troll a lure or two behind our sailboat just in case we get lucky enough to sail by some dinner. Our luck was with us this day and we caught a huge Mahi Mahi! Im zweiten Teil nimmt unser Deck langsam Gestalt an. Auf die bereits gestrichene Vorstreichfarbe kommt im ersten Schritt 2 Schichten 2K Lack drauf. Leider verhindert anhaltender Regen, dass wir im Anschluss gleich weiter streichen können, von daher beschäftigen wir uns erst mal mit anderen Arbeiten. Unsere Luken werden epoxiert und Deckenplatten weiß gestrichen und LEDs eingebaut. Wir nutzen die Zeit auch um uns mit Kiwigrip etwas vertrauter zu machen. Dann wird wieder abgeklebt, geschliffen und sauber gemacht, damit wir die finale Schicht Kiwigrip aufbringen können. Mit dem Endergebnis sind wir mehr als zufrieden und mit den installieren neuen Wischen sieht das Deck wieder aus wie ein Segelboot. Auch mit der Verarbeitung von Kiwigrip als Anti-Rutsch Belag sind wir sehr zufrieden. The adventure begins! This is the very first episode of 'Sailing Fair Isle', having sold our house and most of our possessions we are embarking on a trip around the world. Join us as we sail along the South coast of the UK to Plymouth to join ARC Portugal. A rally organised by the World Cruising Club to sail from Plymouth to Lagos in the Algarve. In this episode we sail the whole Southern coast of England spending time in the Solent, the mecca of British sailing. Play with seals in a fantastic anchorage on the Isle of Wight, Newtown Creek. We visit some of our favorite UK ports such as Dartmouth, Salcombe and Torbay. This is a shake down cruise to prepare to take on the Bay of Biscay sailing from Plymouth direct to Bayona in Spain. With the children leaving home we decided to sell our house in the UK and buy a boat in Holland. After two years refitting our Hans Christian 48T we have now set off a world voyage. We are retiring early because we want to attempt this voyage in good health and while we're fit and strong enough to really enjoy it. We will have to work a bit as we go until we can draw our pensions and we honestly don't know how well that will work. In our real lives we are journalists and filmmakers so it was only natural for use to document our travels by filming the journey. We aim to produce a professional standard vlog of the whole trip and try to give the viewer a real insight into what it's like to live and travel on a 48 foot sailboat. Our first aim is to sail South. After a winter getting iced in on the Markermeer in the Netherlands Judy insisted on warmer weather! So if you start from Episode 1 you will see us setting off from Eastbourne in the UK and travelling along the South Coast to Plymouth to enter a rally called ARC Portugal. Our first goal is to reach the Mediterranean and that means sailing across the infamous Bay of Biscay. This was a very good test for our boat as the bay lived up to it's fearsome reputation and split the whole fleet with a force 10 storm. Storm Miguel cut through our path and meant we had to run to mainland Spain to escape the massive seas and fearsome winds. Six boats couldn't make it in time and spent several very uncomfortable days at sea. The fleet had several broken boats, but thankfully no injured people. And this was just Episode 2! The excitement continued for the rest of our trip to the Med. Dolphins played in our bow wave, we sampled fantastic local foods and wines, great port in Porto! We found some beautiful anchorages and visit some wonderful historic places like Lisbon in Portugal, Cadiz in Spain and the fascinating port of Gibraltar. We will show you what it's like to winter in the Mediterranean, how much it all costs and give hints and tips on where to go how to save money with your boat and the places you stay. We are also talking to other sailors. After years of broadcasting journalism we know how to get peoples stories and we regularly film other sailors to show their boats and lifestyle as well as ours. We can always learn from others. Our long term plan is to spend a few years in the Mediterranean, on our list of place we want to visit are; Mallorca, Malta, Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily, Greece, Turkey, Croatia, Montenegro, Albania, Italy, Tunisia, to name but a few! When we feel we've seen the best of what the Med has to offer we will cross the Atlantic to the Caribbean, and on to the Pacific. #sailingfairisle

The seasons are changing and he wants to get into Indonesia for the surf season before the weather turns bad. Such a legend and we are so very grateful that he has spent the last 2 months with us helping to upgrade Nandji. Before Uncle goes, he helps us to fibreglass in our cockpit floor again and re install the helm to make Nandji ready to sail once again. Our Sailboat Refit is nearly complete and this is the second to last job that needs to be completed before we can go back in the water. We have lived 9 long months without a fridge, yep NO FRIDGE! Our toilet has always been something that we are not happy with as it draws lots of power and is generally not a nice item to fix, therefore, we get a new one! We install the fridge and remove the old head to install the new shiny throne. Playing the game of thrones on a boat is something new. This toilet is a prize winning piece of engineering though and can be installed basically anywhere! Thank you to everyone who has watched our videos and contributed to our new engine. It is all because of you legends we have been able to install this brand new engine and re-power Nandji. With all this boat work being complete our vessel is becoming indestructible as we get her ready for our next big trip across the Indian Ocean. With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! We have just sailed 2000nm through Indonesia and have arrived to the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the next big adventure. Currently on the hard stand, we are re-powering and completing a major refit! We departed Australia in July 2017 and have since explored some amazing countries, met some beautiful people and experienced different cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! We live in Qingdao and the way we describe it to friends and family back home is that it's like living in Boulder, Colorado by the ocean which is a GREAT combination! We have lived here for three years and have climbed Fu many times; it is our neighborhood mountain and has many flavors and aspects depending on where you are on the mountain. The small hamlet of Qingdao, only 11M people, is broken up by mountain chains and beautiful peaks. The one that's just a 20-minute walk from our beach bungalow is Fu. It's a gorgeous mountain with the opportunity to hike, climb, climb with ropes, mountain bike and even cycle. It's about an hour to get to the peak where there are spectacular views of both the ocean and city and you can walk on the ridge for an entire day. It stretches from Shilaoren to the start of the downtown area. On the mountain, you will find local burial sites, German military tunnels, a Buddhist Temple, natural springs where Qingdaoans collect water, and numerous sports complexes (basketball, soccer, tennis, etc.). It's worth a visit to Qingdao and a trip up the mountain!
