Deep Sea Fishing off a Sailboat We finally raise the hook and take off for Great Inagua! But first Brandy whipped up a salad for lunch and eggs for breakfast. We had to catch up to our buddy boat, Bacchus, so we didn't get to eat breakfast until we got through Hog Cay Cut. Once we make it further out to the edge of the Bohemian banks, the wind dies on us. Since we were still in fairly shallow waters, we decided to drop anchor. We had just enough time to eat the salad Brandy prepped that morning. The wind picked up so much we were going 7 knots. We caught a barracuda right away. Once we got him off the hook and dropped the line back in, something hit the lure and started running. We slowed Saoirse down to reel it in. A huge Wahoo was waiting for us on the other end. He was at least 30 lbs. Then we geared up for the night by putting a reef in the main. I woke up to Brandy telling me the the genoa was ripped. So I popped out of bed and dropped the head sail. The stitching came undone at the leech and panel. Hopefully Brandy can fix it. We put up the jib and we were off again. Then we got a monster mahi mahi on the line. He kept running so it ended up taking a while to get him close to the boat. Every time he did get close he took off again. 45 minutes later he was tired enough for us to try and get him in, or so we thought. He ended up breaking our pole and getting away but he was a lot of fun reeling in. We were able to balance the boat enough to sit down and eat some of the wahoo we caught the day before. It was delicious! We arrived in Great Inagua the following afternoon without any more excitement. After an awesome overnight stay in Blue Lagoon, Comino Island/Malta we moved anchorages to avoid the crazy crowds of tourists and meet up with our friends for a couple nights! The island was perfect for exploring with the dog and we had our own swimming pool right off the edge of the boat. Jackson decided to jump off the boat for the first time and take a swim much to our surprise! We want to encourage him to swim off the boat for those hot days but weren't prepared for it and panicked. luckily he swam straight to shore and didn't try to get back on the boat or we would have been in for a struggle! While trying to bring up our anchor the windlass decided to die and with the help of friends we pulled up 60 meters of chain by hand (not fun) We were planning to stay a few more nights but that cut it all short. Back at the marina Ryan was quick to pull the windlass apart and find that the teeth inside the gearbox had warn down which was causing the issue. We jumped online and less than 24 hours later we had our new gearbox from sparesmarine.co.uk for more than half the price of the boat shops here in town. The windlass is back up and running just in time as our stay here at the Yacht club has come to and end! Now the adventure is officially in full swing as we get ready for our crossing over to Sicily and onto Croatia! Rock Sound Eleuthera has an insanely awesome blue hole right in the middle of town which they call an "Ocean Hole" It is salt water with fish in it and we spent some swimming and cooling off. While a brisk northwesterly was anticipated, the wind that blew for the majority of the day was southeasterly, backing into the east as the afternoon wore on. This became patchy during the third and what would become the final race of this penultimate day of competition.

(Ep.84) So it's that time of our boat build..... Steering! First things first... we need a mount to mount our trust hydraulic cylinder on.. & it needs to be STRONG! So that's exactly what we did by making a plug out of fiberglass. Once that was done. We drilled the hole to insert our wheel.
