We leave South Minerva Reef and sail towards Norfolk Island where we plan to spend a few days on our way to the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. It’s a very slow trip and the wind definitely isn’t in our favour. After a few days of bobbing along and going around in circles, and in the wrong direction, we make a decision to abort our Norfolk Island objective and head for New Caledonia instead. It’s about the same distance and Nutshell is letting us know that she wants to go there instead. So, we change our plans and head for New Caledonia. There is a reason why fishing is called fishing, and not “catching”! For the longest time, Ryan and I thought about how we should get into fishing.   But none of us knows how to fish, and also, blood makes me faint between, which makes me a terrible candidate for cleaning a fish. So between our multitude of boat projects and two mistrals to dodge, we never really thought about it (apart, of course, from that time  that I decided to try to fish an octopus.) But one day near Ajaccio, Corsica, we randomly ended up at a fishing store and decided that it was time.  With zero skills or knowledge in the matter, our chances of catching a fish were minimal. Emma explain a little more about our story and how Sailing Tellus came to life. Visiting Colombia and Mexico. It's on this trip that the Sailing Tellus project was born. We are a Lithuanian and French couple currently living in French Riviera with the dream of circumnavigating the globe with a catamaran sailing boat. We were working in the yachting industry for the past 4 years from 2014 until 2018 until we decided to focus on our project sailing TELLUS (Latin word meaning “Earth”). Wir machen einen kurzen Stop in Muxia ( kurz vor dem Kap Finisterre ), besuchen von dort aus mit dem Bus Santiago de Compostella und segeln von nun an nur noch Richtung Süden... We sailed across from Tobermory to the South Channel. It was super remote with tons of little islands to tuck behind. The channel going South was very narrow, full of shoals, and it was wavy and windy so we had to turn around and wait for the winds to calm down. We later hung around Franklin Island and stopped by Dillon Cove Marina for some hand made waffle cones and ice cream! We then sailed around Parry Sound and had a great time with all the wind and no waves.

We finally sailed to Vava'u in Tonga! This is a place we have been looking forward to returning to ever since we had an amazing dive holiday here 4 years ago, we knew it was choc full of amazing dive spots, idyllic beaches and best of all for yachties - over 40 anchorages, many people choose to live on their yachts here and we can see why. It was good to see on our dives that the coral is still vibrant and healthy here, the beaches and water clarity are amazing and the air is filled with the sound of birdsong and insects at night - always a good sign of a healthy ecosystem. In this episode we revisit some old favourite spots, find some new ones and basically show you the best of Vava'u - enjoy! We are the Robbins family sailing on our boat named Nikau. We are a family of 5. Our 3 kids are doing NZ correspondence school on board. They are growing to love it! What's not to love about 3 hours of school a day and then a different playground for the afternoon every day! We've traveled from New Zealand to Sardinia in Italy to pick up our boat and we plan over a few seasons to sail her back to New Zealand. We hope you enjoy following us on our adventures!
