Sailing DOWNWIND to SUVA Downwind sailing to Suva - Exploring Fiji's Capital City. We have a very relaxed downwind sail from Fulaga to Suva. Once in Suva, we abandon the busy, noisy, unprotected Suva harbour and seek shelter in the lovely Lami Bay. We then begin exploring what Suva has to offer. After two months of quiet, laid- back village life, it takes a few days to get used to the faster pace of the big city. We take advantage of the great selection of fresh fruit and veggies in the huge market and restock the larder from the myriad of supermarkets and general stores. We top up the fuel tanks, replenish the LPG and explore eat a phenomenal amount of outstanding vegan Indian food in the local shopping mall. We team up with our friends on 'Serenity' and enjoy a cracking day out at the Coro-i-Suva national park. Then once again, it's time to move on. We received and unboxed our Renogy solar panels and charge controller. We power our sailboat with a combination of solar, wind, diesel (engine alternator). This is our first uncut impression as we unboxed the solar we ordered. There were 410 watts of solar panels all together (5x 50w and 1x 160w), a Rover LI 60 charge controller, and a bluetooth adapter along with cables and connectors. We have this connected to 6x Renogy 100 LifePO4 batteries. Our review of our solar system after 6 months? So far so good. Everything works well together, however we never get the max output of solar due to shading on our sailboat (we knew this going in and it is OK). Jan Mayen and Greenland is pretty far from any rescue services so I could get in a situation were I will have to go into survival mode over a longer period of time, waiting for assistance. WE are half way through our three month break from sailing for the hurricane season and still adventuring throughout inland Guatemala. This episode WE trek a little bit west from Antigua to an absolutely stunning getaway at Lake Atitlan. This beautiful mountain lake is surrounded by volcanoes and is in fact the lake it self is a crater from a volcano at one time. We waste not time exploring these beautiful vistas. Our time (and now this video) is filled with sightseeing, shopping, chocolate, zip lines, monkeys, butterflies, poolside recovery, boat rides, and just amazing times!! We wander back and fourth to some of the main lakeside villages; San Marcos, San Juan and San Pedro. Each one offering a slightly different feel to the next.
