When Tom Waes was at our shipyard last week he enjoyed having a break from the meetings by taking the Bestevaer 36 out for a little bit. Unfortunately the mist kept him from going far, but being out on the water is always refreshing and clears the mind. “I’m always happy to be on board a yacht,” he said. “It’s just a great feeling to be on the water, and it makes me even more excited for my own yacht!” #bestevaer #bestevaer36 #takeabreak #tomwaes #kalmwaes #tomwaesbe #sailingsatisfaction #explore #sail #sailtheworld #goanywhere #sailing #exploretheworld #travel #dream #reizenwaes #kmyachtbuilders 📸 @guyfleury_photography
KM Yachtbuilders is proud to announce the final delivery and departure of the Pelagic 77 ‘Amundsen’. This yacht is a remarkable addition to the fleet of the shipyard in Makkum. The Perry 60 ‘MARLIN’ underwent a thorough refit at our shipyard in 2024. Designed by Robert Perry and built in aluminium by Yachtbouw Folmer in 2008, the Perry 60 ‘MARLIN’ is a robust aft cockpit pilot saloon cutter, created for the most challenging blue water expeditions. From the icy waters of Antarctica to the tropical Pacific, MARLIN has proven her strength and versatility. After covering over 60,000 miles, her current owners entrusted us with a comprehensive refit at KM Yachtbuilders. In 2024, MARLIN emerged with an extended keel, a sandblasted hull, a fully refitted deck and mast, and updated navigation systems. We also modernized the interior with upgrades including a stainless steel countertop, new ceilings, and floors, while adding solar panels for improved energy efficiency. The open deck saloon of the Bestevaer 54 'MicMac' welcomes you with a large dining table and separate navigation corner. Below deck, there is the well-equipped galley, two cabins, two bathrooms, technical room, and a cosy seating area, which together guarantee comfort and functionality at sea. Best of both worlds: the new trend in Bestevaer design: The Bestevaer 54 ‘MicMac’ was delivered in the spring of 2024. This custom 1/1 yacht is based on the ‘Bestevaer’ design but with a hint of ‘Stadtship’. This fabulous combination produces a comfortable family yacht with a spacious deck saloon. _ Special features of Bestevaer 54 ‘MicMac’: Spacious cockpit | Its semi-open transom, wider than in the other Bestevaer models, creates a spacious cockpit with room for two steering wheels, producing a greater connection with the water. Innovative moveable arc | Supports solar panels and operates as davits for the tender. Dry out | The Bestevaer 54 ‘MicMac’ is fitted with a centreboard and double rudders, which means it is also suitable for drying out. Excellent manoeuvrability | With double rudders and an extra third rudder, for excellent manoeuvrability and performance, including in shallow water. Modern exterior | The pilot house has a minimalist, modern design with striking exterior lines. _ The new look of the ‘MicMac’ may well mark a new trend in the Bestevaer portfolio, with a modern open transom and a modern pilothouse that appeal to a broader audience. As with each Bestevaer, this yacht was designed by Dykstra Naval Architects.
From dream to reality: The journey of the Bestevaer 36 BV3 began with the vision of legendary sailor Gerard Dijkstra and the collaboration between KM Yachtbuilders and Dykstra Naval Architects. Crafted for Dijkstra himself, this remarkable yacht was designed to explore both shallow waters and the vast depths of the open ocean. The Bestevaer 36 S/Y, ideal for drying out on the sandbanks of the Wadden Sea or docking in smaller marinas, proudly earned the title of European Yacht of the Year 2024, in the category ‘Special mentioning Sustainability’ ⛵️ Step aboard and discover the thoughtful interior, available in three distinctive styles: classic, modern, and vintage. ♻️ Each design showcases local, sustainable, or recycled materials, from heat-modified wood to fabrics made from recycled PET and natural fibers, and pillows and mattresses crafted from recycled foam rubber. #sustainablesailing #sailinginnovation #sailing #sustainable #sailtheworld #bestevaer #sail #sailorsforsustainability #bestevaer36 #europeanyachtoftheyear #ecofriendlytravel #savetheplanet #ecofriendlysailing #sailinglife #sailor #kmyachtbuilders designed by @dykstranavalarchitects ✨
Today was another milestone in the building of the new Bestevaer 53 ‘Tethys’ for @Tomwaes; the turning of the aluminium hull. Experience a breathtaking moment with the launch of the sister ship of the Pelagic 77 'Vinson of Antarctica'. After two years of intensive efforts, this was a beautiful moment where the energy and love of the various teams were tangible. During this occasion, the name of the sister ship was also revealed: 'AMUNDSEN', a tribute to the great polar explorer Roald Amundsen. Last week, we launched the 23.5-metre sailing yacht 'Amundsen', built at our shipyard in Makkum, Netherlands. Following in the footsteps of her sister ship, 'Vinson of Antarctica', Amundsen is the second hull in this remarkable series. After two years of intensive efforts, this was a beautiful moment where the energy and love of the various teams were tangible. The name 'Amundsen' is a tribute to the great Norwegian polar explorer Roald Amundsen. Constructed with an aluminium hull and superstructure, she features naval architecture by Tony Castro. Amundsen has a 6.2-meter beam accentuated by a distinctive red stripe near her waterline. Featuring two carbon masts meticulously designed to evenly distribute her sail area, complemented by manually operable sail systems such as winches and jib rollers. Inside, she offers a dedicated pilothouse and spacious sitting room with galley. She can accommodate up to eight guests comfortably. Distinguished from her sister ship, 'Vinson of Antarctica', 'Amundsen' is an enhanced iteration with several modifications. Notably, her propulsion system sets her apart, boasting modern, eco-friendly engines aimed at minimizing environmental impact. Additional enhancements include: ● Increased standing height in the pilothouse ● Removal of the centerboard from the fixed keel ● Integration of two Volvo engines instead of Yanmar engines ● Expanded engine room capacity These modifications, alongside numerous other minor details, contribute to Amundsen's exceptional performance and environmental sustainability. Team effort This project represents the collective effort of an incredible team, united by a shared spirit of adventure and a dedication to innovation and sustainability. Eeuwe Kooi, founder of KM Yachtbuilders: “This project represents the collective effort of an incredible team, united by a shared spirit of adventure and a dedication to innovation and sustainability,” Both Skip Novak, the renowned ocean sailor and commercial director of Pelagic Expeditions, and owner Nicolás Ibáñez Scott, a Chilean entrepreneur and adventurer, were also present during the launch. Skip Novak explains the idea behind the second Pelagic 77 Amundsen: "The decision to build a sister ship for the Vinson of Antarctica was based on the success of this design concept. This yields valuable projects that contribute to education for schools in Chile and Spain. These include a north-south crossing of the Atlantic Ocean to the southern hemisphere, where the Vinson now calls South America its home territory." Nicolás Ibáñez Scott adds the vision and values for Vinson of Antarctica and Amundsen: “In an era where much of the world has been mapped and explored, Amundsen’s journeys remind us that the true essence of adventure lies not just in discovering new places but in the courage to dream, to dare, and to embark on journeys that test our limits and expand our horizons.” Team Pelagic 77 'Amundsen': Shipyard: KM Yachtbuilders, Netherlands www.kmyachtbuilders.com Representative: Skip Novak, Pelagic Yachts, United Kingdom http://www.pelagic.co.uk/ Vinson of Antarctica: https://www.vinsonofantarctica.org/ Architect: Tony Castro Design, United Kingdom www.tonycastroyachts.com Supervisor: Peter Wilson, MCM Newport, USA http://www.mcmnewport.com/ Specifications: Length Overall (LoA): 23.50 m Waterline Length (LwL): 20.55 m Beam: 6.20 m Draft: 2.15 m Material: Aluminum Engines: 2x Volvo Mast: 2x Axxon, carbon Interior: Bamboo Capacity: 8 guests and 3 crew members #Pelagic77Amundsen #pelagic #pelagicexpeditions #arcticsailing #yachtmaster #shipbuilding #shipyard #shipyards #pelagicexpeditions #vinsonofantarctica #highlatitudesailing #icesailing #vinsonofantarctica #pelagic #arcticsailing #yachtbuilding #highlatitudesailing #sailing #sailinglife #discoverearth #extremesailing #arctic #polarexpedition #sailinglife #sailing #explore #dream #discover #kmyachtbuilders
