Border Closures – rushing through Mona Passage We left Puerto Rico along the south route and sailed through the rough Mona passage at night with no moon until 2:30 am and very rough seas with large, disorganized waves. Along Puerto Rico we passed a controversial coal plant near Guayama Puerto Rico. The Mona passage between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic is known to be rough, and with wind gusts to 30 knots and the large waves, we decided to sail through the night rather than turn back downwind and stop at an unknown anchorage. We were worried that if the Coronavirus epidemic started to hit the Caribbean Islands, that boarders would close. That predication turned out correct. We checked into the Bahamas just in time, which will be shown on the next video. Currently, we are in the Bahamas and the country is closed. With a well-previsioned boat, we are well positioned to wait it out. In this episode you will see what did sailing around the world look like before corona came to Europe. We arrive to Gibraltar during the night and take shelter in a Spanish harbor for a few days. This will leave us enough time to visite « La Linea » on the Spanish side, and show you the ruins of the Fort Saint Barbara. We will also go on a special quest to find a special tree to hang our ring and do one of our favorite mouvements: muscle up. This gymnastic mouvement helps you get over a fence or get out of the water onto your sailboat without a ladder. It can get really useful if you live on a floating nomad home. I will perform a scaled version of this mouvement, which is jumping muscle ups. You have a large choice of possible scales of every movement to find which one suits your fitness the most. This is why we love CrossFit so much. We will also take to an unconventional visit of the British Gibraltar. Our goal was to take you to the « Rock ». This is something you must see, when visiting, but at the moment of our visit there was no way to climb it and we didn’t have another option. The next day we were leaving to pass the straight of Gibraltar and arrive to the Atlantic. We then decided to find another special attraction. We walked through all the « peninsula » and arrive to the Southern Point of Europe from where we could admire Africa. Crazy feeling. Uno de nuestros colaboradores, la empresa de trabajos aéreos "eNVuelo", nos aconseja que pensemos aeronáuticamente. En las aeronaves los sistemas críticos están duplicados o triplicados. Si hacemos lo mismo en los barcos navegaremos con la misma confiabilidad con la que vuelas los pilotos. No nos podemos permitir navegar sin piloto automático, ni en travesías largas ni navegando en solitario. En el ACROBAT II disponemos de 2 pilotos, a saber: - Original NECO. Piloto que actúa sobre la rueda del timón, como el piloto Raymarina Autohelm ST4000 que tiene el ACROBAT. - B&G ACP2 Network. Piloto que actúa sobre el eje del timón con actuador electro-hidráulico, como el piloto Raymarina Autohelm ST5000+ del ACROBAT (en su caso con EMA, actuador electro-mecánico) No funciona ninguno, y ambos por lo mismo: la electrónica. Para el NECO sustituiremos su electrónica por otta que podamos compatibilizar, como Raymarina Autohelm 7000. Para el B&G hemos comprado en Inglaterra una unidad de control ACP2 Network que vamos a instalar hoy. Nos falta un tercero. En el ACROBAT era un piloto de viento. En el ACROBAT II veremos si montamos piloto de viento o uno electrónico de última generación.

This week we show how to install the Garmin / Active Captain app on your mobile device and then register your Garmin Chart plotter to it. In our case we do NOT have a wifi enabled chartplotter but you can still register and update your software and firmware in the unit. In this video we will show the steps do to this. Mit Laesø haben wir unsere letzte Station in Dänemark erreicht. Leider hat der Wind und das Wetter für den nördlichsten Zipfel nämlich Skagen nicht gepasst. So geben wir uns mit der nördlichsten Insel Dänemarks zufrieden. Und das war auch gut so. Denn diese Insel muss man besucht haben. Wunderschöne Dünen- und Heidelandschaften und ein atemberaubender Rhodedendronpark begrüßten uns. Selbst für Wellness im Laesø-Kur mit vielen Saunen und Thermalbecken war gesorgt. Viel Spaß beim Schauen und wenn es euch gefällt, gerne eine Daumen hoch und abonniert unseren Kanal. Not so nice when you have to stay in quarantaine. On the 17th of April 2020 we will leave marina Port Ghalib in Egypt, heading south towards Sudan and Djibouti and finally Maldives. We will take it easy, enjoy the beautiful reefs of the red sea and keep an eye on the corona regulations of the ports we pass. Since many countries are closed we don't know where we will be allowed to go on land again, but we can survive 4 month without seeing anybody :) This journey is only a small part of our trip that started 2 years ago. We got the sailing- skills on our friends yacht 'Shalom' when we joined them on a trip from the Netherlands to Spain. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtDOpi7ydzdcRK1H7fEiQFQ . In Spain we decided to go with our own boat, and in no time we were the happy owners of 'Messenger'. We left may 2018 and started vlogging from the beginning, we made 15 minute video's of our adventures, the nature and the many special people we met.
