We hire a very bouncy moped and check out out with immigration and customs. We stop off at the local Maneaba ( meeting house) where the Vaitupu community are celebrating their ‘Happiest Day’ with much singing , dancing and laughter. After a peaceful final night at anchor in Funafuti, we complete our final checks and start our trip north for the 700 nm trip to Kiribati. We have a wonderful crossing with calm seas and just enough wind to sail. King Neptune arrives in time to conduct our Equator Crossing Ceremony as we transition from Pollywogs to Shellbacks! Everyone says "Don't Go To Praia!" Well we did. We sailed into the bay and moored at the fishing pier next to fishermen. The beauty of living on a sailboat is that you can live one day near a deserted beach and the next in a busy city harbour. We are living in the city, the Port of Praia, alongside fishermen, fishmongers, diesel mechanics and more. We visit the police and get a visit from the best diesel mechanic on the island for my Perkins 4108. And stroll around a wonderful city said to be dangerous. ESCAPING to a DESERTED ISLAND (in St Barths) | 103 | Beau and Brandy Sailing It"s always a treat to find a deserted island right here in the Caribbean, to get away from the crowds and seek some solitude! As the charter boats were turning up the dance music, we were raising anchor to continue our journey West. But we want to make one last stop, Ile Fourchue, before getting to St. Martin. Even though there was a lot of roll, it was a quick easy sail from Colombier. We were anchored by lunch time and took the opportunity to whip up a fresh salad thanks to the well stocked grocery store in Gustavia. With full bellies we took to the water. Ile Fourchue is a protected reserve so we were hoping to see more life than what we’ve typically seen in the Caribbean. We weren’t disappointed. Thanks for watching!! Time to fix the hole in our boat! We get hauled out in Noumea and spend 48 hours on the hardstand to replace two ball valves and throw another coat of antifoul on. It’s a whirlwind but worth it to replace the ball valves which both had snapped stems with Trudesign plastic ball valves. Need a couple of no-bake recipes that are great to grab and go, packed with protein, and delicious? In this video, see how to quickly make (in under 15 minutes!) two great recipes that can serve as a meal, snack, or even dessert. The recipes are listed below, but you will see how to make them in the video. Enjoy! These are two of our favorites! Chocolate Chip Protein Balls Ingredients: • 3 cups of oats or 2 ½ cups of oats + ½ cup shredded coconut • 1 cup of peanut butter or almond butter • 1/3 cup honey • 1/3 cup chocolate chunks or chocolate chips Directions: Mix above ingredients in a bowl. Using your hands, form small balls. Makes 18-25 balls depending on size. I store the protein balls in the fridge. Overnight Breakfast Yogurt Ingredients: *1 cup milk *3/4 cup oats *3/4 cup yougurt *2 Tbsp chia seeds *2 Tbsp honey *3 tsp cinnamon *1/4 cup coconut *1/4 cup blueberries (or other berries) Directions: Mix the above ingredients together until fully combined. Pour mixture into individual-sized Tupperware containers that are easy to grab and go.
