Once on shore, we walk the fortified grounds of a fort and pass by a castle built in 1593. When it's time to head off to the next island of Teän, we make sure to leave on a rising tide as there is quite the tricky route to pass through. Between the islands are many spots that dry out at low tide, and keeping yourself on the proper track is of the utmost importance! Meeting us at the other end though is a quiet and protected anchorage at an uninhabited islands, perfect for strolling and watching the black backed seagulls that soar above our heads. On this episode of WE|sail, we get eager to move up the coast and check out some new spots along the Costa Rican Pacific coast and get busted by the Coast Guard. We say good-bye for now to our dear friends and buddy boat Lou & Steven on SV Wolfhound and plan to meet them later in the year and set sail for Costa Rica's longest left surf break just outside of the Osa Peninsula. No other person in sight, at a typically busy surf we anchor just beyond the break and Warren has the whole wave to himself. He attempts to surf one of the biggest waves he has been on in the last 10 years, not bad for a mountain boy. The next day we are stopped by the Coast Guard and are told that surfing is no longer allowed, all the beaches are closed and there is nowhere left for us to go. We drove back to Spain along the Côte d'Azur and stumbled upon some amazing places, like a rocky beach in Martigues where the kids had the best time looking for fossils and snorkelling. Back in Spain, we stayed on a camping ground by the beach where the kids got to sleep in their new Quechua 2 second tent. And more inland we found an amazing little camper place in Bocairent, in the garden of some fellow Belgians. Finally, we ended up in the Spanish wine region Jumilla where we visited the Juan Gil family estates. We got to see where our favourite Spanish wine is made, and of course got to taste it too. Our day ended with a beautiful walk through the vineyards and an amazing sunset from the hillside where we parked for the night. A super quiet place with an amazing view over the vineyards. This week we got some fresh tomatoes from a fellow yachty so we used that to add texture to a chicken biryani that we served to our guests Ingredients - Serves 4 Meat sauce layer 2 chicken breasts 2 cloves garlic 1/2 medium onion finely chopped 2 teaspoons biryani masala 1 teaspoon fennel seeds 1 teaspoon coriander powder 1 tablespoon dried coriander 1 teaspoon turmeric Oil Cherry tomatoes 1 tin tomatoes 3 dessert spoons red split lentils For the coriander layer 1 packet or 1 plant of fresh coriander For the onion layer 1 1/2 medium onions coarsely chopped 1 teaspoon turmeric For the rice layer 1 scoop rice per person(use a 85ml scoop for this) 1 1/2 scoops hot water per person 1 teaspoon turmeric Cooking gluten free food in a tiny galley on a sail boat can be challenging and fun. Hatte ich mich bei meinem letzten Video noch so auf die Überführung mit der X-41 gefreut, kam direkt nach der Ankunft die große Ernüchterung. Die 10 Jahre alte X-41 war in einem für dieses Alter, miserablen Zustand. Leider hat der Eigner sowohl beim Kauf, als auch bei allen weiteren wichtigen Punkten versagt. Am Ende konnten wir nur noch die Reißleine ziehen, denn oberste Priorität hatte die Sicherheit der Crew. Deswegen mussten wir nach einer Woche aufgeben und die Rückreise antreten. Leider habe ich nicht alle Mängel auf Video und es ist ein relativ langes „laber" Video geworden, das liegt zu einem daran das auf vielen Aufnahmen auch der Eigner zu sehen wäre, welcher aber über das Video sicherlich nicht so amused wäre. Da ich mich in keine rechtlichen Grauzonen begeben möchte versuchte ich lieber auf die Aufnahmen. Ach ja, falls noch nicht getan, lasst mal ein Abo da! With help from Columbia Sailing School, this group of Chicago-area high school sailors is learning the skills needed for taking increased responsibility for their equipment. At first, the program was mandatory; if you damage a boat, you do community service. Then, as time passed, the same group of seven kids started volunteering to fix the boats. These Blockheads choose to show up, slip into a Tyvek Suit, pull on a respirator mask, and get the power tools humming. And they love it. There's no turning back. Every time I'm leaving from home to join my assignment given by the agency takes a lot of courage to fulfill my obligation and finish the contract. From the day I left is the start of my journey as one of the OFW, SEAMAN, SAILOR, SEAFARER, or MARINO. Whatever it called these words makes you a stronger and better person as long as you will take the right path and never engage with the things that you will regret in the future. Remember you will be far away from your love once and one of the consequences of being away from them can drive you in some sickness and no one can take care of you but yourself.
