Vlog #17 We leave cat harbour and head for Avalon on the Santa Catalina Island in California. We arrive there and catch our first mooring ball. I was pretty nervous but it was actually super easy! We then went in to explore the town, get groceries and make plans to leave as the sun is rising. Although went to eat dinner in town and ended up partying with some locals and definitely didn't get up with the sunrise! hahaha. We almost got eaten by a seal! In this weeks episode we take you through our few days of relaxation. We get in the car and drive with no destination besides the plan to “just follow the flowers” 🌸🌼 The Western Capes flower season is just beginning and we decided that after moving to Saldanha we all needed a little bit of down time. We take three days off to just chill and do some exploring. Colben and Teagan decided to book flights back to Ballito to go and visit the in-laws. With them leaving about 5 days after us moving to Saldanha, we used those few days to try and find some of the wild flowers that were beginning to bloom all along the West Coast. We didn’t find as many as we were hoping for but after a few hours in the car we came across a canola field that we had to go play in! 🌼🌼🌼 There is still a lot of work to do on Saoirse so Robin, Karen and Denver will be carrying on with that while Colben and Teagan head home to try and earn some money. With being stuck in lockdown and not being able to cross the Atlantic as soon as we had hoped, their funds had depleted so they have decided to head home for a month or two to try to replenish their purse. While we were sitting in Teagan’s cabin watching a very chilled seal do his slow circuit between the hulls of Saoirse, Karen decided that giving him a loving petting would be a good idea 💡WELL, let’s just say - never rub a seal the wrong way 😟🤭 Saoirse still has a lot of carpentry, electrical and paint finishing that will still have to be done over the next few weeks so we will be keeping you up to date with our latest work in the upcoming videos. ⚓ PATREON: https://www.patreon.com/sailingsaoirse We hope you enjoy our video and don’t forget to subscribe to see where the wind eventually takes us. The RORC Red Funnel Easter Challenge 2008 was hit by a Two Day Gale and the fleet was held ashore until Day 3 when they hit the water in a "mild" Gale. The action was fast and furious and the crew of Boats on TV was there with helicopter to get all the action. Two large double berths and a single it would be a nice cheap waterside apartment at the very least. With a beam that squeezes easily through the French Canal system and able to cope with long distance cruising this little catamaran has many advantages over comparable catamarans available on the market. Get cheesed off with your neighbours and move on, what a life! You could be sitting in the bay "far from the maddening crowd” sharing the same view with a 6 million Quid super yacht! This is a classic yacht 1979 nearly 40 years old has some stories to tell, travelled to the Baltic, explored the med and been to places where monohulls dare to tread, there is still a lot of life in this old cat yet. With subtle improvements made by her current owner she is in pretty good condition for her years. This type and age of boat holds its value and is almost an appreciating asset unusual on boats and worth throwing even more money on if you desired.….. With factory fitted mods and one of the last of these wonderful little catamarans built to have aft suppression plates fitted to prevent the incidence of “Hobby Horsing”. If you are looking to sail fast forget this one, in catamaran terms, this one is a tortoise, but who is in a hurry however it will still get you there faster than a lot of monohulls! It sports a good old reliable Mercedes Diesel engine which reliably plods along and gets you anywhere you want to go. With the benefit of twin props its easy to helm and manoeuvre in the marina. Berthed in the lovely Port of Cartegena with all facilities and catamaran friendly. An active social life with ex-pats of all nationalities meeting for a weekly BBQ. The area is steeped in history, with an Amphitheatre, museums, and amazing architecture. This is where the Spanish Armada assembled before they went into battle with the British fleet. In this video we travel along the Staffs and Worcs Canal from Tixal Wide to the outskirts of Penkridge. Along the way our boat develops an electrical fault which requires urgent attention! We’re Stephen and Kayleigh an English/ Scottish couple and along with our two dogs Hugo and Coco we will full time on board our 37ft narrowboat Grayswood. After living nearly two years in our self-converted campervan we decided we needed more space. So, as a compromise (Ste wanted a boat, I was happy in the van) we decided we would purchase a boat after spending some time on our friend’s narrowboat. Grayswood was conveniently located less that 5 minutes from my work and was found kind of by accident. I was visiting a friend who was staying in Aston Marina and whilst we were out walking the dogs, I seen the advert for Grayswood. I said to my friend “that looks a nice boat” and as I said it the marina manager appeared and asked if we would like a look inside. Naturally we did. After looking inside, the boat I texted Ste and told him I’d found us a boat. We made an offer after going back for a second viewing, after some negotiations within a week she was ours pending a survey. She was hauled out the following week and the survey went well. We kept her out on the hard standing for a further six weeks whilst we renovated the insides including fitting a new kitchen and bathroom. Hunting for giant treasures, Manta Rays in Komodo. The Komodo Islands are famous for Komodo Dragons and Scuba Diving. Not only does the underwater world here have incredible marine diversity, it’s also home to an astonishing amount of reef Mantas. In this video you are about to witness the amazing encounters with these majestic marine animals if you decided to visit Komodo for your next scuba diving destination. There are quite a few diving spots where you can see Manta Rays. The most famous is in the far south called Manta Alley. Here the waters are a little colder than in central Komodo, but well worth a visit. Then there is the more frequently visited site in central Komodo called Manta Point, also known as Makassar Reef.
