I have lived aboard my 25 foot sailboat for a year now. A journey from Lake Michigan to Kentucky Lake so far. This LAGOON 42 OWNERS VERSION has been sold. We wish the new owners many happy years aboard From 2017 from first owner. She has never been chartered and is in great condition throughout. She has wide transoms, a composite bimini, and a spacious cockpit. And the raised helm station to port is just three steps from the cockpit. Despite its ample size, the boat can be sailed singlehanded, as almost everything is within reach of the wheel. She is well equipped main sail with Lazy Jacks and Lazy Bag, genoa and a Code 0. Furthermore: two Yanmar 57hp diesel engines, folding propellers, inverter, solar panels, battery charger, and B&G sailing instruments including radar. In addition, equipped with: a life raft, Epirb, and a dinghy with an 8hp outboard and a dinghy hoist system. This time I want to show you the toughest conditions I have on camera. The maximum Windspeed was about 32 Knots and the waves were gigantic. We were racing at the World Cup Final in Melbourne 2016. They needed that racing day for the status of a World Cup so they decided to sent us out. We came all the way from literally the other side of the world to sail that event so we went out, regardless that the conditions were way beyond our skill level. Unfortunately during the second race we capsized and the mast broke. I still do not know why. Usually carbon masts break at the impact. Diamonds and Cunningham were full on but still very unusual... Sad to say that it costed us our only possibility to sail a medal race. Why we capsized: We were close to the upwind mark when we capsized. Barbara wanted to pull the leeward daggerboard, a strategy in extreme conditions for bearing away. Unfortunately a big wave hit us and the boat capsized in the blink of an eye. This was something completely new to me: mail flight. In and out of Berlin Tegel, we sometimes fly cargo only. Namely mail from the Deutsche Post which is loaded everywhere in the aircraft. But flying a drone is even harder from a moving vessel, scarier over water, and the worst when you have to navigate around a sailboat’s rigging to retrieve it, while moving. We’ve flown our Mavic at anchor, and while underway on the rivers — when the mast and rigging were removed. And we’ve flown it with others onboard who could help navigate while landing (which really is a two-person operation). With miles and miles of back waters to explore, we load up Flubber and do our best to get lost! Langkawi is only 6 degrees above the equator and is protected from the ocean swell. These two factors mean that sailing in the area is often light winds and smooth seas. It is a very relaxing and peaceful way to travel. We sail 20 nautical miles to reach this maze of creeks and anchor through a tight gap between two cliffs! What an amazing place! With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off from Australia sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through New Caledonia, Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and then onto the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the years to come. With a new engine, we continued onto Thailand, then back down into Indonesia and specifically West Sumatra to live the island life and chase the surf. With our Sailing plans changing, we returned to Thailand to wait for the weather and begin our journey to the northern route of the Indian Ocean to Sri Lanka before heading south across the Indian Ocean once cyclone season has finished and the trade winds begin! We were on our shake down sail when the mooring we were on failed and our home ended up on the reef. We saved the old girl and got her back to the boat yard for repairs to continue on our adventure! Ready to sail across the Indian Ocean, we were only days away from leaving when the pandemic begun closing countries around us... We are stuck for now, but enjoying the slower pace! We departed the east coast of Australia in July 2017 and have since sailed over 10000nm offshore. We have explored some amazing countries and met some beautiful people along the way. We have experienced so many different and diverse cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our lives doing it! The Sailing Sweet Ruca crew, Kate and Curtis, meet up with SV Dragonfly’s Addison and Ryan to dive the wreck of the Tyrrel Bay. The wreck is located about one mile off of Grand Anse Beach on the Southwest side of Grenada, near St. George’s and Port Louis. Evelyn and Curtis from Scuba-Tech Grenada provided the transport and guidance to drop us right on top of the wreck. The Tyrrel Bay was a coast guard patrol boat delivered to Grenada from the USA in 1984. Designated PB-01, she is 106ft. After the Guardian Class patrol boat went out of service the local divers put together a plan to clean her and make her dive ready. She was sunk on September 25, 2018 where she sits in approximately 60 ft of water. Kate is decked out in her new gear Sherwood Scuba gear she recently purchased from Michael and Jess @SetSailandDive. Just before the Covid-19 lockdown in BVI we had the unique chance to be the only people at the wreck of the RMS Rhone. Normally there are dozens of dive and charter boats here with hundreds of people in the water. We got to experience it like no other. Check it out as Kate and Curtis from team Sailing Sweet Ruca snorkel and free dive the area. The RMS (Royal Mail Ship) Rhone was sunk in October of 1867 during a Category 3 Hurricane after leaving Peter Island BVI. She was 310 feet in length and was 40 feet wide. She was a sail-steamer, rigged as a two-masted brig. The area was turned into a national park in 1980 in order to preserve the history of the site. Shark Reef is off the south side of Grenada. The fast-moving Atlantic ocean current rips through here, but also provides the food for this amazing reef ecosystem. This is some of the best coral and reef life we have seen so far in the Caribbean! We dropped in with ScubaTech Grenada, starting off in Prickly Bay. They are fantastic local guides. The Sailing Sweet Ruca crew were joined by the crew from SV Dragonfly. We had great visibility on a bright sunny day.
