After what I think was six days of sleeping sideways on the beach preparing the boat by removing all of the sand and water and trying to seal the hull to deck seam semi Successfully plus arranging a little equipment and people for the big day we made it about 15 feet into the water off of the beach. For the last just under 48 hours we have been slowly kedging our way back into deeper water. We have gone from 3 feet to about 5 1/2 feet but still have another foot to go. It is low tide right now but by high tide this evening we should be home free! Thank you all for following along and I will be putting together a real episode in the near future about this process with some nice illustrations on our strategy to show you how are you too could one day save your boat if you end up in this situation. This vessel is 55 feet and over 30,000 lbs! so if we can do it with this you can do it with anything! Always remember never give up on your dreams. Anything is possible! What an incredible week of snorkeling adventures from the west side to the north shore! We found a stripey, baby great barracuda, color variant cigar wrasse, plane wreckage, swallow tail and sap-sucking sea slugs, and a SEA HORSE!!! My first ever sea horse in Hawaii! We even came across a fishing pole :)

Testing the new selftacker (ST) incl. twin tiller (TT). Well, I really like it. You can really focus on others, as it is promoted “keep your head out looking for windshifts, other boats etc”. We set off from Ghizo Island across Ferguson Passage to dive the reefs and a sunken Hellcat Fighter Plane in Vona Vona Lagoon. We also spent several days at the resort on Lola Island - Zipola Habu Resort and made a visit to Skull Island.

Weiter geht es nach Antigua. Im English Harbour liege ich 10 Tage und die Zeit vergeht dort mit allem möglichen, was zu erledigen ist, wie im Flug. Danach habe ich zwei schöne Ankerstopps an Green Island und Long Island. Auf Barbuda besuche ich Cocoa Bay, Low Bay und Codrington, bevor es zurück nach Antigua geht, wo ich mir die Dickenson Bay und Jolly Harbour anschaue. Zum Abschluss segle ich nach Nevis, entscheide dort jedoch aufgrund der Erfahrungen eines schwedischen Nachbarbootes nicht einzuklarieren und segle weiter zur Simpson Bay auf Sint Maarten, wo dieser abwechslungsreiche Törn endet. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V770 with a Rode External mic. My old camera is now my number 2 is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. Once again, another windy sail, we escaped the worst of it but we just caught the tail end of the trip in a Mistral which blew all night. Taking a journey to scuba dive at Scuba Junkie in Mabul, Malaysia is not for the faint at heart! The journey is long and expensive with necessary built-in overnights and flights. Planning is essential. With extra time, due to Covid-19, we decided to fly to Borneo on a one way flight! This would be the trip that crossed off another couple of items on our bucket list: Scuba Diving around Sipidan Island and visiting orangatans and probiscus monkeys in their natural habitat. Sadly, we learned alot about how their habitat is being destroyed by the palm oil industry. After a full day of travel and a night in Semporna, we finally arrived in Mabul! Our first few dives in Mabul BLEW US AWAY!! The muck diving is outstanding. We were also lucky that we arrived on the day that Scuba Junkie was releasing baby green turtles into the wild! When you anchor in a beautiful bay with three other sailing boats and the next morning a mega yacht ("Lady Christine“) arrives and the first thing the owner does, is to fly his helicopter while his wife is having a swim in the infinity pool. But nice to see that on deck there is also a sailing boat waiting for fun activities. Here some facts about the mega yacht, which was on the market in April 2020 for 60 Mio. $. The "Lady" is 68 meters long, was built by Feadship in Netherlands at their Alblasserdam shipyard , she was delivered to her owner in 2010 and last refitted in 2015. Lady Christine's interior configuration has been designed to comfortably accommodate up to 10 guests overnight in 5 cabins, comprising a master suite, 3 double cabins and 1 twin cabin. She is also capable of carrying up to 19 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience. Motor yacht Lady Christine is equipped with an ultra-modern stabilization system which reduces roll motion effect and results in a smoother more enjoyable cruising experience underway. Powered by 2 MTU 1,769hp diesel engines and propelled by her twin screw propellers Motor yacht Lady Christine is capable of a top speed of 15 knots, and comfortably cruises at 13 knots. With her 179,500 litres fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 8,500 nautical miles at 12 knots. Her water tanks store around 45,300 litres of fresh water. Air Conditioning, Stabilizers at Anchor, WiFi connection on board, Deck Jacuzzi, Gym/exercise equipment, Balcony, Beach Club, Cinema, Piano, Sun Deck, Tender Garage. Vanaf IJmuiden varen via het Noordzeekanaal naar het Markemeer. We blijven een paar dagen in Muiderzand en zeilen volle kracht naar Hoorn. We halen flinke snelheden, terwijl we alleen op de fok gaan. Lekker hoor! Later op de dag neemt de wind iets af, maar onze snelheid neemt wel heel erg af. Ook voelt het roer alsof die door de stroop gaat in plaats van door water. Dat is niet goed..... Gelukkig weten we vrijwel meteen wat er aan de hand is. Deels is het zo op te lossen, maar Ben moet de volgende dag het water in om het af te maken. Kijk je mee wat er aan de hand was? Wij zijn Ben en Felia. Jaren hebben wij de droom gehad om samen over de wereld te zeilen. In mei 2020 zijn we aan dit grote avontuur begonnen.
