I spent a good year refitting it, mostly by myself and with the help of awesome friends, and then (mostly) solo sailed my sailboat around the western Caribbean. In 2016, I crossed the Panama Canal, had a major engine break down, a near sinking experience and a serious foot injury which got me stuck along the Pacific coast of Central and South America. In this Episode, I swap my old AGM batteries for some new to me AGM batteries that I bought from a fellow cruiser. Also, I go through an extensive troubleshoot of the electric motor or my Lofrans Tigres Horizontal Windlass only to find out that it was a lose wire that caused all the trouble. Here is a list of the things that I trouble shoot on my electric motor for my Lofrans Tigres Windlass: - check carbon brushes - clean carbon brushes - clean magnets - clean commutator - check commutator for shorts or broken wires - clean armature stack - check armature teeth for no continuity to commutator Hopefully this will help you in case you ever have to check the electric motor of your windlass (or any other electric motor, since it is basically always a similar set up) Enjoy and Ahoy, Nike & Karl

While in the Helford River, we knew that we were getting Elements scheduled for a survey in Falmouth, and if she sold, this would be our last time out fully enjoying the cruising life. No schedules, just bumming around with friends, and sitting around enjoying sunsets. We take a stunning hike ashore in the afternoon where everything is SO GREEN that it almost feels unreal. When we get back to Elements, there are some bad swells rolling in due to the exposed nature of the anchorage, and so we happily take a few hours to get off the boat by having a bonfire ashore with our new friends on Polaris. Going from glass calm our first night to rocking and rolling all over 48 hours later, I don't think it's the kind of tranquility either of us were expecting when we first arrived! We were moored in Argostoli, Kefalonia, when we got hit by this hurricane. We couldn't escape it. 80 yachts sunk and many were damaged. Also the islands were hit hard by the storm and the mudslides. Foil racing develops quickly and so do the requirements of our team to the Air Ride Plus. A board that won the world title in the past was updated with several features that allow our team to have the best platform for racing in different conditions. The Air Ride range consists of three different sizes with the 81 meant especially for lighter and young foil racers, the 91 for slalom foil racing and the 100 acting as an foil course racing weapon. All American Marine, with Birdon America, has successfully completed the rollover test for the first Motor Life Boat as part of Phase I of a contract to perform a Service Life Extension Program (SLEP) on a number of United States Coast Guard’s (USCG) fleet of Motor Life Boats (MLB). Birdon America was awarded the prime contract to perform Service Life Extension work on all MLB’s in the U.S. Coast Guard’s Fleet, and has chosen AAM as it's West Coast partner to fulfill construction work as part of this program. The current in-service MLBs were designed by the USCG and built from 1997 to 2003. The 47-foot MLB is the Coast Guard’s primary search-and-rescue platform operating in surf and heavy weather conditions. It has self-righting capability and the ability to operate in winds up to 50 knots, seas up to 30 feet, and surf up to 20 feet. The USCG’s need for these unique capabilities in search-and-rescue, maritime law enforcement, and contingency response is a high priority due to their effectiveness on the water.
