My trip to Campbeltown was my first solo sail to another Marina. Having spent a day with Leith Nautical in Largs Marina learning to control Sula in confined spaces and practicing berthing gave me the confidence to go somewhere new single-handed. It was a stunning sail down past Little Cumbrae, Arran, Ailsa Craig and across into Campbeltown Loch to Campbeltown Marina. From Campbeltown back to Largs I sailed North of Arran up the Kilbrannan Sound. Lots of marine life, dolphins, seals and a bottlenose whale. I look forward to going back to Campbeltown to explore when the restrictions have relaxed and maybe try out the local whisky. Sula is a Hanse 385 (2013)

Really lovely place we are dug in 7m depth sand a weed bottom 30m chain with 20kg Rocna anchor. Hopefully we hold in these high winds (38-40knts) that are due to come from the south. Plenty of marine life and it's perfect for a swim around plus there is a commune on the beach with up to 80 people living all year round off grid. Apparently it used to be a safe haven for pirates as there are houses and forts built around the place.

After 4000 miles from Panama we finally drop anchor in Taiohae, Nuku Hiva - a totally different world with huge manta rays of a 2,5 - 3m span circling our boat in the mornings. After having fought a diesel diseaster in our bilge and finding the culprit for it, we finally get to explore the mystic town with sacred churches and impressive carved stone figures. Janna has a little adventure herself finding a doctor 'somewhere up the hills at a dirt road' while catching a glimpse of how the Marquesans live. And last but not least we are introduced into Marquesan dancing impressed by the energy spread through loud massive drums, the men‘s deep voices in contrast to the ladies high chants. Especially the tattoos the Marquesans are well known for creating, showed into advantage in the bright light of sweaty dancers fully in their element.
