It would not have been the same without you. This episode was filmed in 09 / 2020. — Hey, my name is Nike and I bought an aluminum 37 foot sailboat in Panama in 2013 that I named KARL. I spent a good year refitting it, mostly by myself and with the help of awesome friends, and then (mostly) solo sailed my sailboat around the western Caribbean. In 2016, I crossed the Panama Canal, had a major engine break down, a near sinking experience and a serious foot injury which got me stuck along the Pacific coast of Central and South America. In this Episode, we prep the hull of my Reinke Super 10 to renew my bottom paint. The current covid19 situation makes it tricky to go into a marina, so I take advantage of my twin keels and a strong moon tide to let my boat dry fall to get the bottom job done. First we scrape off Karl’s massive beard and then we grind away all the left over barnacle feet with 80 grit grinding discs. Since we only have a very limited time window to paint a layer of epoxy primer and antifouling between the tides and rain showers, I do a little trial run to see whether the pint holds up with 7 hours of curing instead of 12. Erst genieße ich mit Heinz, Wilm und Klaus noch ein paar unbeschwerte Tage auf St. Martin, bis uns die Pandemie auch in der Karibik plötzlich und hart einholt. Der Törn wird Hals über Kopf auf St. Barths abgebrochen und ich segle alleine weiter nach Martinique, um Anke zu treffen. Während der zweitägigen Fahrt dorthin erlässt Frankreich ein Dekret zum Lockdown und, als ich morgens in Fort de France ankomme, sind die Grenzen geschlossen. Aber ich treffe Anke dort nach 2 Monaten wieder und mit einheimischer Hilfe können wir trotzdem Proviant und Diesel an Bord nehmen. Glücklicherweise kann ich einen Tag später in Le Marin einklarieren. Vor Sainte-Anne liegen Anke und ich wochenlang im Lockdown vor Anker, aber machen das Beste daraus, bis Anke schließlich Mitte April einen Rückflug nach Deutschland bekommt. I try out a fun little sailing dinghy on my neighbors boat. I score some parts from the local sailboat scrapyard. On my way out of the harbor my anchor gets tangled around a big piece of junk. Hey everyone, Steph and Travis here, continuing to make our way down south to escape the winter weather! We continue south from New York City and head down to Cape May, NJ, around to Delaware Bay and up into Annapolis, MD. Just before departing from Atlantic Highlands, NJ, our Raymarine i70 died when attempting to perform a software update..womp womp. With no resolution after calling Raymarine dealers, speaking with technical support and canvassing for assistance online, we continue onwards without our wind instrument. We were told we'd likely have to send the instrument in for troubleshooting and/or purchase a new instrument...that is, until we’re given a very helpful tip! [How We Fixed our Raymarine i70] -Unplugged all other instruments/devices from the MFD and made a new simple STng set up: STng 5-way Connector STng Backbone Terminator x2, 1 on each end of the connector STng Spur Cable to MFD [with its own 12v supply] STng Spur Cable to i70 STng Power Cable to 12v -Played with powering the MFD on/off, disconnecting the i70 spur cable and powering on/off the main switch at the panel -Toggled with the power on/off until the i70 was recognized in the diagnostics page on the MFD -Uploaded the latest Raymarine software on a Mini SD Card. After a solid 6 long months of being around the island of Langkawi, we are free to mve inter province around Malaysia. We are in search of a better healthcare for our new baby and learnt that the city of Penang was the place to be. With a 70 nautical mile sail to reach the island city, we set off to sea once again, sailing towards that endless horizon. Langkawi has been a safe harbour for us during these crazy times but it is one amazing feeling to see it disappear in our wake. Onwards to the next chapter! With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off from Australia sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through New Caledonia, Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and then onto the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the years to come. With a new engine, we continued onto Thailand, then back down into Indonesia and specifically West Sumatra to live the island life and chase the surf. With our Sailing plans changing, we returned to Thailand to wait for the weather and begin our journey to the northern route of the Indian Ocean to Sri Lanka before heading south across the Indian Ocean once cyclone season has finished and the trade winds begin! We were on our shake down sail when the mooring we were on failed and our home ended up on the reef. We saved the old girl and got her back to the boat yard for repairs to continue on our adventure! Ready to sail across the Indian Ocean, we were only days away from leaving when the pandemic begun closing countries around us... We are stuck for now, but enjoying the slower pace! We departed the east coast of Australia in July 2017 and have since sailed over 10000nm offshore. We have explored some amazing countries and met some beautiful people along the way. We have experienced so many different and diverse cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our lives doing it! The adventure is just beginning as we sail West with the trades around the World! If you've been following along you know we dropped our keel and NOW we can finally start the repairs on our Beneteau 49. Well, after we demolish it a little more! We cut all of the tabs off the grid with minimal drama (only inflicted a little more damage than necessary). Progress is slow, but among all the trials we do have some good news along the way - like not having a massive leak in our boat! Keep in mind we bought her at auction without ever meeting the owner! The owner was sailing along and ran aground - hard. Hard enough that the keel pivoted and pushed the aft end up into the hull. This force cracked the internal grid in several places and broke a portion of the grid free from hull. At some point an inspection was done, insurance was called and decisions were made. We confirm our suspicions of what happened to Paikea when we start investigating the cracks above the rudders. Poorly executed repairs have meant that we must now grind it all back and properly repair the damage. We run out of e'-glass and have to finish repairs in carbon fibre and our transoms start to extend as one project melts into another. We zijn aangekomen op het prachtige eiland Læsø in het Kattegat, een berucht water tussen Denemarken en Zweden. We huren in Vesterø Havn fietsen en bezoeken zo de bezienswaardigheden die het eiland beroemd maakten. We zien de authentieke huizen met daken van zeegras, bezoeken de zoutwinnerij en de toren van Thorvald Hansen. Via de bossen en hojsande komen we terug in de haven. We vertrekken naar Grenaa, maar kunnen onderweg besluiten bij te sturen richting Anholt waar ons een onrustige nacht wacht. We vertrekken vroeg naar Helsingør in regenachtig weer en een rommelige zee. Felia wordt geveld door milde zeeziekte, maar de dag eindigt rustig in Helsingør.
