It’s our first time ever sailing. It’s our first time ever anchoring in winds over 40 mph. It is safe to say we are very much rookies at this. We decided to anchor outside Joint Base Langley-Eustis ( Langley AFB ) to wait out Zeta. Always better safe than sorry. Turned out to be a pretty cool choice when a pod of dolphins rolled through, all while fighter jets and helicopters flew overhead! Took a stab at the tiny bait first they were after with my dip net for fun since I’d hate to throw a cast net on a dolphin. No luck with the dip net, but not a bad way to wait out foul weather.

[Last day in the Vendée Globe village 🕛] Following the governments announcement, the public made sure to enjoy the last day in the Vendée Globe village which closes at 11.59pm this evening. This week’s episode of Sailing Talia will have to be put on hold, sadly our external hard drive broke during the production. To make sure there’s always enough space on the cameras we tend to shift all the content we capture to the hard drive pretty regularly. Unfortunately this means we lost the content of the last couple of weeks in Menorca :( So with the fresh footage in the cameras the heat is on for us to bring you right up-to-date with our 200 Nm crossing to Sardinia by next Thursday (and we’ve only just arrived!) In today’s video we give you a quick update on our last moments in Menorca, the crossing and our attempt to recover the hard drive data.
Even though I published my very last flight into Berlin I realized that I owe you just one more: our flight from Berlin to Bastia. Enjoy this episode and don't forget to subscribe.
Fixing Mainsail Halyard On Our Sailboat "THE NEXT DAY" (Part 2 of 4) Episode 14 Remember from prior videos how the main sail halyard had broke and tied itself around the stays? Well, time to fix it. Here is our SECOND DAY heading out to attempted the mast climb! Between that and fumbling around with the stays, it was another very unproductive day sailing SV Yemoja. Socially Distant, Wildly Connected THIS IS NIHI SUMBA This is not an escape from everyday life. It is the return to a life well lived. Where rugged luxury meets unregulated freedom. A place to connect with something larger than oneself. A haven for the adventurer, for the wanderer. The endlessly passionate and curious. Arrive with an open heart and leave changed forever. This is vacation with a purpose. A destination with meaning. This is NIHI Sumba.

UPDATE: We have had a very good experience with the Ultra anchor in the 5 years we used it. The anchor always set well and did not degrade in any way in that time, a good advertisement for stainless steel under water… as long as it’s the right sort of SS and the anchor is 318 and 316L which are both excellent. Sadly the swivel is not the best metal being 316Ti and it corroded badly once we got to the warm waters of the Caribbean so we had to stop using it. We also had a problem with the swivel pin backing out which may have been a function of the movement it got slung under the bowsprit, I’m not sure. But we were very unhappy with the attitude of Ultra Marine West (unfortunate as the guys in Europe had been super helpful) so we decided to switch to using Mantus equipment which so far we are very happy with. There's no doubt that your anchor is one of the most important items on your boat and it's one of the most overlooked. There have been huge advances in anchor technology so would you benefit from a more modern anchor? Well that really depends on the anchor you have and the cruising you intend to do, but getting it wrong could end very badly! The 'Anchoring 101' video went through technique, this video looks at anchors, the good, the bad and the ugly! If you missed the Anchoring 101 video that goes through anchoring technique and gives an in depth look at anchor chain, it's here... https://youtu.be/2g6Is6sf6Vw If you want to see Steve from SV Panope's test on the Ultra it's here... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYtAbUn_Zm4 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please do make sure you subscribe it costs you nothing but helps us get seen by YouTube. We went to Galveston and Kemah to look at other marinas. Saw some sailboats. Walked and danced on the beach, chased a few birds and enjoyed some of Galveston’s historical sites. Who knew Karen could do cartwheels. We looked at a very nice old style sailboat by Formosa. Nicely outfitted, well maintained ketch with a pilot house. It had a large master aft, great main salon, another cabin with a cool diesel fired heater, another cabin kind of used as a utility area, and a forward v-berth cabin. It had a length on deck of 51 foot and a beam over 15 foot. Looked at 2 different marinas and both were very nice. The Strand in Galveston is a trendy older restored area with restaurants and shops. The Bishop’s Palace survived the 1900 hurricane and was magnificent. Galveston’s The Balinese Room was a famous nightclub on a pier which was 600 feet long. For many years it was a dance hall and illegal casino. It was famously featured in the ZZ Top song Balinese. Thank you to our subscribers! We appreciate your support. This episode captures some of the best sailing we had in a long time. We are sailing north from Puerto Vallarta to San Carlos, Mexico in the Sea of Cortez and it is exactly what we have been longing for. We first had some reservations to sailing this leg, because weather in and wind forecasts predicted that we would be hauling directly into the wind the majority of the way, but we were surprised that we had enough winds to take us the majority of the way. This episode has it all. Great sailing. Dolphin action. Deep sea fishing. And sea to table tuna dinners on the bow of the boat sailing into the sunset. We really couldn't ask for anything better. Join us on the adventures of WE, as we continue up the Sea of Cortez for some of the last of our sailing adventures for the season. THANKS FOR WATCHING THE ADVENTURES OF WE! During his time away from work, Jamie lived on board and cruised South East Asia. One of his life dreams is to sail around the world. His plans came together at the end of 2018 when he met a Filipina lounge singer in China. Princess was yearning for a vacation since she had been working many years to support her family. Finally, her siblings got their own jobs and she decided to join Jamie on Jupiter² and go sailing. It was a wild decision for her because she had never sailed before. For the first time, they sail for two weeks around Phuket, Thailand. She began to see what Jamie love about the sea. They both resigned from their jobs in early 2019 and began cruising full time. Hopefully some inspiration to "Quit Job and Go Sailing".
