By coincidence I got aware of this itinerary and curiosity kicked in. This document, written by monks in Latin script, is one of the oldest and exiting sources about navigating the Baltic sea. It mentions 101 places which together form a sea route along the east coast of Sweden - mostly sheltered by skerries -, over the Åland-islands and Southern-Finland up to Reval (todays Tallinn). This sailing route, already used by Vikings, my 40-year-old sailboat LA MER and a kayak are the ingredients of this single-handed sailing adventure through the dreamlike archipelagos of Scandinavia. The movie shows stunning landscapes, the emotions of a long time-out under sail and the ingenious navigational methods of the Vikings plus their the epic mythology. I spent a good year refitting it, mostly by myself and with the help of awesome friends, and then (mostly) solo sailed my sailboat around the western Caribbean. In 2016, I crossed the Panama Canal, had a major engine break down, a near sinking experience and a serious foot injury which got me stuck along the Pacific coast of Central and South America. In this Episode, we paint the hull of my Reinke Super 10 with a layer of epoxy primer and two layers of copper free Antifouling. The current covid19 situation makes it tricky to go into a marina, so I take advantage of my twin keels and a strong moon tide to let my boat dry fall to get the paint job done. After scraping and grinding the hull, I clean the bare aluminum spots and treat them with a slim layer of etch primer followed by a couple of layers of epoxy primer. Once this is done, Maria and Paul give me a hand to slap on the Total Boat epoxy primer and the Total Boat copper free antifouling. We just finish in time before the tide comes back in. Next up is cleaning my annodes and propellor and once I am done with that, Paul and I paint a second layer of antifouling Karl’s bottom is looking great and it was a challenging but rewarding project to work with extremely short drying times between tides and rain showers. I am happy it all worked out but I surely don’t recommend this procedure. And just to be clear, this procedure is surely NOT recommended by Total Boat, so don’t try this at home!!! Ahoy, We finally left the Boatyard. It was so hot we couldn't work on the boat any more. Fay had to leave for Germany soon to finish her studies and we wanted to spend some premium time without the stress and tension of the boatyard. So we embarked on a journey into the unknown.. First stop was Kevin's place in San Juanico. We met him in the yard and helped each other with our projects, but he left a while ago and now we followed. We did not plan any further and decided to see what the universe has to offer. And it offered us a beautiful RV. We found it on ebay but couldn't check it before the auction finished, took our chances and trusted the description.
