After having to come back into the Caribbean to repair our hurricane damaged catamaran, we find home in a place called Linton bay, near the Panama Canal, where we take a few days to explore the area before we get to work. With cracked bulkheads and almost all of her electronics destroyed by lightning, this salvage boat needs a major rebuild before she can head out into the Pacific Ocean again, but the crew are determined to make this happen. SV Parlay is a hurricane damaged 2012 Lagoon 450 Catamaran bought in Tortola, BVI at the beginning of 2018. Colin and his friends spent months rebuilding her, before setting sail across the Caribbean. Follow our journey as we continue to fix her and eventually circumnavigate the globe! Born into a family of sailors, Nicolas fell into the great pot of sailing from an early age. "On board the family boat, weekends and holidays were spent around the Gulf of Morbihan and the Bay of Quiberon. One day, curiosity pushed me to look further!" In parallel with his studies in management and administration (Master 2), regattas follow one another successfully both in France and internationally. Retrouvez les stages de décembre 2020 dans la "rubrique stage - côtier Canaries" ou sur la page agenda Lorsque l'on est sur un voilier, il est parfois nécessaire de devoir monter au mât pour régler une girouette défaillante, revisser l'antenne VHF, décoincer une drisse ou alors simplement pour vivre des sensations fortes et profiter de la vue du haut des 10 / 15 mètres du mât. Les différentes techniques de grimpe Il existe plusieurs techniques pour monter au mât d'un voilier : - Si vous avez un coéquipier et que vous êtes au port, vous pouvez utiliser la technique de la chaise de calfat avec une drisse de spi tournée sur la poupée du guindeau électrique ... mais nous n'avons pas de guindeau électrique à bord du Rebelle. - Si vous êtes seul, vous pouvez utiliser la technique des échelons de mât (pièges à drisse !), des échelles de corde (pas toujours évidentes à tendre) ou un treuil (système plus onéreux). Nous avons choisi une autre solution de grimpe, celle issue des techniques d'escalade. Monter au mât avec la technique d'escalade Cette solution est, pour nous, la plus appropriée, la plus confortable et la plus sécurisante. Même s'il faut avouer que la première fois cela fait toujours un peu bizarre de quitter le sol. Le matériel nécessaire : - Une corde d'escalade : que l'on va raccorder à une drisse dans le gréement. Il faut monter sur cette corde d'escalade pour préserver la drisse. En effet monter sur une corde reste agressif pour cette dernière. La corde d'escalade apporte en plus une raideur et une rugosité qui permet de bien adhérer pour monter. - Un baudrier : bien à notre taille que l'on règle et ajuste. - Un grigri : qui va nous servir à nous assurer sur la corde au fur et à mesure que l'on monte. (Petzel fabrique des grigris en France) - Un bloqueur d'ascension : composé à l'intérieur d'un taquet qui va, lui, nous aider à grimper sur la corde. La technique de montée ÉTAPE 1 : installer le bloqueur d'ascension sur la corde d'escalade qui va se bloquer grâce aux dents. ÉTAPE 2 : mettre les pieds dans la chaise préalablement prévue. ÉTAPE 3 : reprendre le grigri en montant. Il va se bloquer automatiquement. Au début il faut absorber l'élasticité de la corde d'escalade avec le poids du corps ce qui n'est pas toujours facile. Et puis on répète la manipulation. ... On monte le bloqueur d'ascension ... On se redresse ... et ainsi de suite jusqu'en haut ! La technique de descente TAPE 1 : on se libère de la chaise. ÉTAPE 2 : on détache le bloqueur d'ascension. Il faut prévoir un mousqueton pour garder notre système de montée avec nous. Ce serait dommage d'avoir à le laisser tomber sur le pont, ça pourrait faire des dégâts! ÉTAPE 3 : on tire la poignée en douceur pour descendre progressivement ou plus vivement pour descendre plus rapidement :-) Vous voulez essayer de monter au mât du voilier le Rebelle avec Voile In Portugal ?
