The refit sailboat started last episode and with the new teak deck and drying time of the kit and doing the refit sailboat at the yard, the teak deck replacement made us pause and gave us the opportunity to do a city trip to Instanbul. Me and my boat Galopin have been wanting to sail with our friend Bruno for some time. And we got the perfect opportunity. A weekend jaunt across the Sao Vicente canal and on to the island of Santa Antao. I've done this passage on many occasions, but never with a professional skipper. And this proved to be an exceptional experience. He was familiar my boat without knowing anything about it. He easily convinced me to hoist the Spinnaker, which I rarely do in Cape Verde, which turned out to be "sailgasm". And I got to show him how we navigate these waters which I'm more familiar with and he is less. It was a wonderful experience sailing Galopin with a pro skipper. This time we raced again. The wind was a little better than before. We actually came in 12th… we won’t say how many boats were in the race. Had some difficulty finding the marks, perhaps due to our own ignorance. Finally found them, rounded the marks on the port side as appropriate and had a great time. Karen was a free spirit as always and knows how to sail in natural attire. She checked the engine oil and got rid of more tan lines. We did some recreational sailing the next day. Steve worried about running into pirates; fortunately, we had a Ninja fighter on board to protect us. Our new captain’s chair was a hit. This episode marks the beginning of a new chapter, as the Covid Crew begins to disband and go separate ways. We experience some fantastic sailing as we start our long trek north towards the States. Being a particularly windy year we almost always had enough to get Calico speeding along, and usually more than enough. We got familiar with the Code Zero, one of the best investments we've made in years. Of course, the Bahamas is not without it's challenges, as this episode highlights. You can't let the turquoise water fool you into letting your guard down especially not when transiting it's many inlets which allow sailors to pass from the ocean to the bank side and vice versa. We find ourselves in a “rage”or tumultuous seas as water rushes off the bank and back into the ocean with an opposing wind. The result is like taking Calico Skies white water rafting. I put in months of work for this RV remodel into a tiny home. We are FINALLY living full time in our RV, and... it's pretty great! The RV tour in this video was filmed in Colorado a few days ago, and I'm editing at the Lake of the Ozarks - in my RV office. Which I dig. 3 monitors, custom cabinetry from barn wood, solar when needed. Baby. RV living is challenging and the work and repairs never end, but it's fulfilling. Every day is a new adventure. The RV makeover into a tiny house was an experience, but I'm not sure I could do it again, at least not with a vandalized RV. Okt 2020 Teil 2: Dugi Otok, Kornat , Levernaka , Smokvica , Zlarin , Skradin , Krka - Wasserfälle, Murter , Zadar , Meeresorgel , Telascica , Kornaten , Mir - See , Steilklippen Dugi Otok Krka - Wasserfälle Skradinski Buk ab Minute 8:50 ... 5 Minuten NUR Wasserfall ... Diesmal ohne Kinder reisten wir am 3.10.20 bis 10.10.20 nach Zadar . Dort hatten wir eine Bavaria 37 aus 2016 gechartert. Teil 1: Wegen Sturm konnten wir Samstag nicht auslaufen, besuchten aber das leere Zadar, welches bis 3 Tage vorher noch Coronoa-Risikogebiet war. Sonntag segelten wir in die Naturpark-Bucht Telascica, schlenderten zum Mir - See und waren beeindruckt von den Steilklippen von Dugi Otok. Montag motorten wir durch die Kornaten bis Smokvica bis und Dienstag weiter bis zur Insel Zlarin. Freuten uns, an dem Dorfkai von Skradin einen Platz bekommen zu haben um Donnerstag früh um 8 Uhr als einzige Besucher die Krka - Wasserfälle zu bewundert. Sie sind wirklich ein Erlebnis! Ich rate sie früh morgens zu Besuchen. Unter tags ist es unerträglich und die Menschen schoben sich vor Corona eng an eng über die Brücke. Das war keine so schöne Erfahrung. Teil 3: Von Skradin segeln wir Amwind 2 Tage zurück nach Zadar. Hängen uns in Murter an eine Boje und genießen den Sonnenuntergang. High winds and high seas we surf down waves towards Burnett heads. Following yet another last minute decision we sail back towards the mainland ...leaving Fraser behind us in the moonlight. Upon arrival we a confronted by a pilot boat essentially booting us out of the channel and into the eerie unmarked waves, as we wait for the ship to pass us in the night. We say G-day to a couple mainland kangaroos and continue on to pancake creek.
