Do we have ENOUGH MONEY for this?! And will we ever be RELEASED from QUARANTINE?! With every day we sit and wait for our PCR test results, we start to wonder! What should have been a 2-3 day stay in quarantine while checking into St. Vincent and the Grenadines turns into 4, 5, 6 aaaaand 7 days. All with virtually no communication as what the delay was. And while paying for a mooring ball we would never have stayed on otherwise. Needless to say, our tensions were a little high and our hopes of making it to Bequia before Christmas day were waning. In 1997, after missing out on his Olympic rowing medal dream, Rob decided to row a tiny seven-metre plywood boat, 2500 miles from Tenerife in the Canary Islands to Barbados in the Caribbean. It took 6 weeks and he and his rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, won the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. His first taste of a blue water ocean crossing. Skip forward to 2014, and married with three children we invested in Javelot a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Robert's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, we set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know our boat before heading offshore with the kids, Finn 18, Declan 15 and Ivan 13, in tow. Through trial and error, we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. Our plan? To sail around the world. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we will re trace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. This week Fabio is showing us how to make a traditional southern Italian specialty, fresh orecchiette with cima di rapa (broccoli rabe). In theory it’s very simple to make, but there is definitely a technique used to roll the dough into a tube and form the orecchiette. Also – trying to find out what is the mystery of missing oil in the left engine. And the drama with the mast! When the rigging specialist Romain inspected our mast he said – Guys, we are really lucky, because you nearly lost your mast. And everything works in so called GMT time – GRENADA MAYBE TIME. Hello everybody. We are having a great time cruising Frolic through the Northern Exumas. We do a bit of hiking, snorkeling and kiteboarding at several spots and have some great sailing in between. Sorry to hear about the big storm pummeling the US. Fortunately the weather here has been consistently pleasant. 75-80 degrees day and night, winds 12-18 kts from the southeast, just a few minutes of rain very infrequently and water temperature of 75. We are not missing snow shoveling or sub-zero temperatures at all

Offshore Sailing School graduate and guests had a fantastic time on our Colgate Sailing Adventures hosted sailing vacation in Belize in early February. Van het forteiland Örö zeilen we vroeg in de morgen weg richting een paradijslijk eilandje in de Finse archipel, Björkö. Dit onbewoonde eiland heeft een natuurlijke beschutte haven en omsluit een groot zoetwater meer. We wandelen rondom dit meer, maar een eenvoudige route is het niet. We klimmen en klauteren over de rotsen en moeten goed opletten waar we lopen. Je zou zomaar lelijk kunnen vallen. Als met een opkomende wind het achter-anker niet meer houdt vertrekken we snel richting Jurmo, waar we uiteindelijk een storm met windkracht 8 (meer dan 33 knopen) aan lager wal moeten afwachten. Wij zijn Ben en Felia. Jaren hebben wij de droom gehad om samen over de wereld te zeilen. In mei 2020 zijn we aan dit grote avontuur begonnen. Me gusta verlo inmediatamente después de salir el barco, para así ver si hay algún roce importante que lo delata la falta de anti incrustante, y un crecimiento mayor de microrganismos pegados al casco. Luego se confirma el buen estado cuando se limpia. En nuestro caso, después de dos travesías atlánticas el casco, la hélice y el timón estaban en perfectas condiciones.
