This is the first video in the Building a Balance 442 Catamaran series. Here you will follow the build of the first Balance 442 Catamaran from tooling to launch and sea trials of hull #1. This video shows the first stages of the hull mould and deck plug construction. The hull mould is constructed using thousands of CNC-cut shutter ply frames and meranti stringers. This framework is then cladded with weather-proof ply and faired until smooth. The same process is then applied to the deck plug, from which the deck mold is manufactured using E-Glass and resins with structural reinforcement behind it. It is worth noting that the Balance 442 hull is laminated in one piece without the need for additional joining laminates and tabbing, which helps to save weight . The structural PVC foam core material is thermo formed and vacuum bagged to assist with further weight savings and to provide structural integrity to this performance sailing catamaran. Furthermore, all bulkheads are properly tabbed in and we use carbon fiber in high-load areas for extra stiffness and strength. All the structural detailing and design is done by our partner, Du Toit Yacht Design, using state-of-the art software which includes Catia. Unable to return to our home country, we are forced to put plans in motion to have our child abroad. We are stuck for now, but enjoying the slower pace as we have just had our first baby, born in Malaysia! We departed the east coast of Australia in July 2017 and have since sailed over 10000nm offshore. We have explored some amazing countries and met some beautiful people along the way. Our sailing adventures take a brief pause as we take an adventure inland and travel on the El Chepe Express, Mexico's Train Trip through the Copper Canyon. With our friends, Trish and Jay, we had planned a week long trip to the Copper Canyon or Barrancas del Cobre. The Copper Canyon or Barrancas del Cobre in Spanish, is lesser known compared to the Grand Canyon in the United States but rivals in size. The canyon system has been deemed the largest in the world and twice as deep as the Grand Canyon. Linking Chihuahua City to Los Mochis , El Chepe Train covers 653km/405 miles of track through the majestic landscape of Mexico's Western coast. Along the nearly 700 km of railway, there are about 15 stops, mostly consisting of small villages of Mexico's oldest native communities. However, the El Chepe Train is not an easy trip logistically speaking and far from any main touristy destinations making it very attractive to those who desire the road less traveled and like an off the beaten path experience. Dick Durham reviews Max Liberson's book, The Boat They Laughed At. An epic Atlantic Curcuit in Gloria, a 1974 38ft concrete boat that should have been sent to the crushers rather than sailing over 4.5 k Atlantic miles. We spoke to Dick Durham on Zoom and then Max from his home in middle England. There's only one Max and there's only one book that tells about his love affair with a Ferro-cement Barbara June schooner called Gloria. Once we can get out and back to filming - we shall be sailing with Max on his new boat. An interesting chap, a real classic bloke.

In 2017, Tony and Margaret Wright decided to embark on an adventure tour to the Galapagos and the Amazon. Tony took plenty of photos of the water adventure and the wildlife they encountered. Wir sind beinahe ohne Segelerfahrung auf diese Reise aufgebrochen. Das erste mal ablegen mit der Eira, war am Tag, an dem die Reise begonnen hat. Bislang haben wir die Biskaya überquert, schwere Situationen in Spanien und Portugal gemeistert, den Atlantik in 22 Tagen überquert und wir haben es geschafft unseren Motor auf Guadeloupe zu reparieren. Jetzt geht unser Weg weiter richtung Westen. Die nächsten 2 1/2 Jahre werden wir nutzen um den Pazifik zu durchqueren, den indonesischen Raum zu erkunden und letztendlich nach der Umrundung des Kap der guten Hoffnungen wieder Fuß auf europäisches Land zu setzen.
