Keep in mind we bought her at auction without ever meeting the owner! The owner was sailing along and ran aground - hard. Hard enough that the keel pivoted and pushed the aft end up into the hull. This force cracked the internal grid in several places and broke a portion of the grid free from hull. At some point an inspection was done, insurance was called and decisions were made. In this episode we make a discovery which shows the real extent of the damage to our bulkheads. We receive some extremely helpful assistance from the manufacturer, on how to repair our Lagoon 450 catamaran. She has had catastrophic failures to both sides of her primary bulkhead, leading to the fracture of subsequent bulkheads, and cracking of the tabbing on almost all remaining bulkheads. This series will show never before seen footage of how we straightened and strengthened a 45ft production catamaran, in order to be able to complete a circumnavigation. There are two options when heading south down the US east coast, you can take the offshore route which is more exposed to weather but more direct or take the "inside" route down the ICW. The ICW is a 3,000 mile long inland waterway down the Atlantic and Gulf Coast. The waterway is a combination of natural waterways and man-made canals. The stretch through North Carolina runs fairy direct right along coast and does not add many extra miles. In this episode we travel through a beautiful stretch of the ICW in North Carolina. The Alligator Pungo Canal is one of our favorite spots on the ICW with an abundance of wild life like bald eagles and black bears. We take our dinghy up a sweet little creek to find a boat ramp where we can stretch our legs making the most of the unseasonably warm weather. We get the drone up to capture the dramatic North Carolina coastal lands. Aug 2020: Spontan buchten wir eine Bavaria 39 von der ACI Marina Trogir und segelten innerhalb von 2 Tagen nach Dubrovnik in die Marina Frapa. Diesmal waren nur 2 meiner Jungs dabei, die Freundin von Luis, deren Mutter und von der Mutter eine Freundin entschied sich Freitag Abend spontan, spontan noch mit zu segeln ;) Beide waren vorher noch nicht auf einem Segelschiff. Auch kannten wir uns nicht aber es wurde eine tolle und aufregende Woche. Clarissa wollte unbedingt nach Dubrovnik und so "heizten" wir am Sonntag von Hvar bis fast kurz vor Dubrovnik. Die Bedingungen erlaubten eine wundervolle, warme Nachtfahrt Richtung Dubrovnik. Wir genossen den Abend in der Marina Frapa. Start Segeltörn ab Min. 2:40 Marina Frapa ab Minute 09:09 Teil 2: Rückfahrt von der Marina Frapa nach Trogir. Von der Marina Frapa Dubrovnik segeln wir von Dienstag bis Donnertag zurück nach Trogir. Wir kamen durch mehrere Gewitter, Regen und sahen einen wunderschönen Regenbogen. Wegen der Erklärung zu Kroatien zu einemn Hochrisikogebiet endete unser Törn leider schon am Donnerstag Abend, aber es hat riesen Spaß gemacht! Arrived in la linea de la conception had an awful 5 months of hell then we broke free and escaped the meditaranean Sea to join the Atlantic ocean with risk of Piracy & Orca attacks on ships. We had been well prepared for the situation and dealt with the following problems that arose that day with precision. We got attacked just outside tarifa by 4 orcas on the 16/4/2021 but they are known for attacking boats all up the African, Spanish & Portuguese coasts. 🌊🌊🌊⛵🌊🌊🌊🤘🏿 Order of things we did was kill the engine, kill electrics and any other gadgets you have on board, reduce the gib sheet quarter of its size as to still have steering and slight control of movement, throw paper overboard as a distraction for the orcas, counter the steering by centering it to reduce the risk of braking the rudders and connection points, remain calm and quiet and I eventually turned the radio off as it was a bad idea to radio through due to the noise/frequency it produces plus I couldn't understand a word.
