#71 Pour vous mettre un peu mieux en contexte, Dorian est la catastrophe naturelle la plus destructrice de toute l'histoire du nord des Bahamas. Les témoignages disent que le niveau de la mer avait monté d'au moins 20 pieds, le tout inondant la ville jusqu'aux toits de maison (Marsh Harbour étant un ville au niveau de l'eau). Alors qu'un ouragan normal prend habituellement moins de 6 heures pour passer par-dessus une île entière, Dorian s'est presque immobilisé pendant presque 48h sur le nord des Bahamas, avec des forces de vents soutenus à 150 noeuds. Lors de cet ouragan, Eloi et moi étions à 100 miles nautiques au sud, sur le Galway Bay. On lui avait enlevé tous ses panneaux solaires, voiles, préparé son mouillage ouragan. On avait laissé le Galway Bay seul, et étions allés se réfugier sur terre pendant 3 jours. Nous avons subi des vents soutenus à 40 noeuds, et les plus gros orages que j'ai vu de ma vie. Bref, cet évènement nous a beaucoup touché, et c'était un grand soulagement de voir que Marsh Harbour a su se relever après un tel évènement. Somebody said sharks??? We know those incredible animals are not as dangerous as they might be depicted in big Hollywood movies, however we need to admit that swimming close to them was quite frightening. Getting close to turtles and lobsters was definitely more fun. We feel more than lucky and grateful to be living sailing life to the fullest and dive to these incredible spots from our sailboat. Her LOA is 19.3m and she has a beam of 4.6m with a draft of 2.98m She weighs 33t and she can cruise at 7 kts with the engine and 8-10 kts on sail depending on the wind. She is fairly comfortable with 15 to 20 kts of wind. Freshwater capacity to last over 2 weeks and a fuel range of 13 days steaming. About the Boat ''SY Red Current'' is a Southerly 31 with the construction of GRP and rigged as a sloop with Aluminium Mast. Her LOA is 31 feet and she has a beam of 10 feet with a draft of 7 feet. She also has an electric swing keel which makes her draft very shallow and easy to enter in shallow water. This might sound all too common but the family did it in 1977! This is the 7th of 12 episodes that Joachim Campe filmed. Episode 25 In this episode we celebrate finishing the frames on our port side and we start rebuilding (and almost finish) the frames on starboard. We also get to tilt our bandsaw in a way that we never thought was possible!! A storm hits the shipyard and we documented everything! We get our hands dirty by helping our team and we receive the lovely visit of a capybara. ༄ We are Ben and MP! Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted 70ft wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the works needed were a lot more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. Watch us as we bring Yabá back to life with the help of an amazing team of traditional shipwrights, sharing every phase of the process, overcoming the highs and lows and having fun along the way.
