After we still hang around in Rangiroa, the possibility arises for us that Mario can sail with another boat to Tahiti that he can take care of our alternator problem and some other stuff. While Mario sails to Tahiti, I stay on the boat and enjoy the peace and silence. Normally we are 24/7 together and in the first few nights it feels strange to be alone. Besides reading a lot, I do my diving license and get to dive with dolphins. Mario works diligently through his to-do list and tries his luck at a dentist before returning to Trampi by plane. While testing our new Precision Sails last week, we sailed to the small island of Ile Fourchue. Before heading back, we jumped in for a swim and enjoyed having the bay all to ourselves. We then took off for a fantastic day of sailing, ending up in Grand Case, St Martin. Knowing our engine was overdue for some love and having ticked the fun and frivolities for the week, Adam spent a few days in the engine bay replacing oil and belts. Enter Khiara on the last task of changing the impeller to try and help! The show immediately ground to a halt (as did the use of our engine) when a bolt broke on the final task. Any skipper can do a mistake! It's how you deal with it that defines you as a skipper. I have seen a lot being here and it's not like I try to make fun of someone else mistake. It's meant as something to think about especially when arriving at a busy harbor, bay, or anchorage. Things are not always as it appears and classic mistakes in eyeball navigation piloting are easily done. It has been a lot of catamarans hitting the reefs here. Why it appears like only catamarans hitting the reefs here might have an explanation but a wild guess is the most popular rental. Sometimes it has been so predictable like I was just expecting it to happen and took my phone up to film it as an example. I would never dare to talk about this topic myself if it was not for the fact I have done lots of mistakes and hopefully learned from them myself. I have also been on the other side and assisted a three-digit number of boats taking in water after groundings and accidents. So would say I have some experience in what should be done and not. Just pretending nothing happened is not a good strategy or decision. This action and examples were too precise and good not to be shared even risking being mistaken for making fun of others. I'm a sailor and making fun of other sailors is bad karma. Using it as an example to learn from it is in my opinion different. Thank you for watching and hope you enjoy this video! Episode #185 - Let There Be Water Hello Friends, On this episode we show you some of the work and process that went into building our integral water tank into the unused bilge space below our cabin sole. This was a massive project that took a very long time so this video only covers the basics of the process. We used MAX CLR FDA approved Epoxy Resin - https://theepoxyexperts.com/epoxy-resin-food-safe-fda-compliant/ The new water tank ended up holding 35 gallons. When combined with our separate forward tank/water bladder we have a total capacity of 65 gallons. Once we can afford a water maker we will do away with the forward water tank but until then it is nice to have the option of extra capacity. Cleaning fibreglass and Gelcoat can be time consuming and messy if you use power hoses or steam cleaners and both of the techniques can still leave stains due the pours properties of fibreglass and gel coat. Je vous montre mon installation à la table à carte sur mon bateau voilier Feeling 1040 (10m) qui fonctionne depuis 2 ans et que j’améliore quotidiennement. C'est une installation fixe avec un ordinateur NUC intel sous Windows 10 optimisé avec un écran LED 13" HDMI Résolution FullHD alimenté en USB et enceinte intégrée avec son bras articulé sur support VESA. Pour rendre ce PC autonome, j'ai relié un petit dongle USB GPS qui fonctionne comme traceur cartographie sous OpenCPN, QtVLM et le puissant logiciel de navigation TimeZero Navigator qui à la particularité d'avoir les carte Navionics à jour ! Ce boîtier ainsi que l’écran sont alimentés en 12v avec un convertisseur 12v/19v/USB que je me suis procuré sur internet. Cela ne consomme que très peux de courant (entre 2 et 4Ah) une fois bien optimisé ! Mes panneaux solaires (2x300watts BC) ainsi que mon parc de batterie GEL 300Ah me rend autonome même avec le frigo allumé et pilote auto en fonctionnement. Cet ordinateur de bord est relié à mon Modem TPLINK MR600 4G+/3G GSM routeur WIFI Ethernet qui me diffuse le réseau WIFI autour de mon bateau et qui centralise un multiplexeur WIFI de chez YachtDevices YDNR NMEA2000/SeatalkNG/NMEA0183. J'utilise principalement le double de ma carte sim de mon opérateur SOSH et si je suis en zone non couverte par une antenne relais Orange, j'installe une seconde carte sim de chez Bouygues telecom (Forfait de ma femme). Sur ce modem, j'ai optimisé le débit pour qu'il soit stable sans coupure intempestive et j'ai limité la bande passante d'internet de tout mes appareils (9 de connectés). Je capte internet, je discute sur whatapps et je regarde Netflix en Navigation côtière sans problème ou au mouillage. J'utilise ma tablette Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 12pouces soit au cockpit soit en second écran à la TAC. Elle me permet d'analyser ma navigation et de préparer ma meteo auparavant avec SailGrib WR, Windy et Navionics boating. Enfin, pour le wifi du port, lorsque celui ci est de bonne qualité de réception et pas trop chère, j'utilise un Bullet M2 de chez Ubiquiti qui me permet d'amplifier le signal WIFI avec une antenne 12 DBi et fourni la passerelle par défaut internet à tout mes équipements. C'est mon lien de backup. Accessoirement, j'utilise mon récepteur radio Sangean 909 FM/AM/BLU car celui ci capte extraordinairement bien les ondes FM ou les fac-similés météo en méditerranée. Le petit boîtier Navtex USB quant à lui ne reçoit plus de bulletin météo en méditerranée suite à la panne de l’émetteur TOULON LAGARDE. Je suis tout de même surpris car régulièrement il capte des bulletins pour la zone NAVAREA atlantique NORD !! Je suis passé maintenant à l'iridium GO pour la météo au large. J'ai trouvé aussi un super récepteur METEO indépendant de chez La crosse technology. Qui m'indique la pression atmosphérique, les phases lunaires, "la marée", la température ambiante et extérieure et la date/heure sont synchronisés. Depuis cet vidéo, je me suis acquitté d'une sono portable en Bluetooth et étanche XB43 de chez Sony, j'ai un super son diffusé sur le bateau. Je prévois d'en acheter une seconde pour une sono en mode Stéréo. Avec cette configuration, nous pouvons travailler à distance et nous divertir (Netflix, Youtube, Whatapps, Facebook, Spotify) sans aucun souci ! :) EDIT Juin 2021: Pour les voyages lointains (Transatlantique, projet tour du monde ou simplement tour de la méditerranée), je favorise un iridium GO qui à la meilleur connexion satellitaire pour les plaisanciers (avec l'abonnement chez Advanced tracking qui ont un support 100% dédié en Français et une vraie réactivité en cas de souci). Le tracking sera automatique et je pourrais joindre nos proches par téléphone ou par SMS/Mail.
