We completed our daysail down into Bahia Tenacatita. After narrowly dodging the incoming shrimping fleet, the crew put in a few textbook gybes (just to prove we still can!) as we worked our way into the gorgeous 'Aquarium'. We loved our time in The Aquarium, and couldn't believe we had the whole place to ourselves for the week! There was a bit of typical Pacific swell rolling into the bay, so we deployed the new 'Employee of the Month' - our rocker stopper, to handle the situation. Unfortunately the First Mate didn't handle the demotion very well.... We spent a couple of days exploring the neighborhood and managed to get ashore each day despite the challenging but entertaining beach landings. When departure day rolled around, the Captain discovered that his beloved fire truck alternator was shaking its way loose on the engine... so we decided it was high time to try sailing off the anchor again and building our salty seadog skills! For those who want to know about the Garcia Exploration 45 and its upwind sailing performance, here’s a compilation of clips from our recent passage from Bangor in Northern Ireland to Fishguard in Wales. We had to tack a few times, but the wind was also helpful for long stretches. Our Code 0 was in use for most of the trip and provided a noticeable boost in performance, given the consistently light and pleasant upwind sailing conditions. I don’t know who it was who coined the phrase, ‘Gentlemen don’t sail to wind!’, but I’m quite sure he or she was not riding in a Garcia Exploration 45 at the time. :-)

Final preparations are being made and we finally leave Blaine for good. We have 48 hours before the fleet departs to make "The Big Left Turn". The San Juan's have been good to us but its time to get this party started so we start the first part of our journey by heading over to Port Townsend to meet up with the rest of the Coho Ho Ho group.

We finally have splash day. After completing most of the work at home and painting the boat with antifouling at the Cedar Creek Marina, I only had to install the motor and rudder and then the boat was lifted and put in the water. I then moved the boat to the "Up the Creek Marina" next door where it will be based. Next I will replace all the lines and halyards and install the sails and then I can go sailing.
