Welcome back to our weekly vlog! In this episode we return to our boat in Ponta Delgada and after settling in for only 2 days we got a phone call... "How quickly could we get to Turkey to sail on a Kraken 50?" Our answer... tomorrow! So, we jumped on the next flight we could get and once again said goodbye to our own boat, Millie. Travelling during these Covid times is still tough, especially for non EU citizens such as ourselves. Our first hurdle came when we were told we couldn't board the flight to Brussels as we weren't EU citizens. This was the first out of 2 flights we were meant to take... not a great start. After resolving the first crisis we continued on our way across Europe to Istanbul, Turkey where Kraken Yachts is located. Once there, we finally caught sight of the boat we were to be staying on for 5 days, a Kraken 50. #112 ✍️Elle n’est qu’à 7 milles. Sur le chemin, ses voisines lui font de l’œil, les Tobagos Cays, puis Union, mais celles-ci, ça sera pour plus tard. D’abord elle, Mayreau, un écrin de beauté en plein cœur des Grenadines. Un ponton abandonné, des snacks de bord de mer fermés, une plage déserte et un village qui a retrouvé son rythme d’antan. Nous sommes à Old Wall. Le seul village de l’île, égayé de toutes ses maisons colorées, et parmi elles, le refuge emblématique de ce javeau, celui de Roberts. Ici, tout naturellement avec moins de 300 habitants, tout le monde connait Bob, mais ce qu’il y a de plus fou, c’est qu’il est connu d’un nombre incroyable de voyageurs de tous horizons ! Faut dire que depuis 28 ans, il a eu le temps d’en servir des Pina Coladas dans sa « taverne pour bateaux de passages » ! Et puis finalement, impossible de le louper, il se situe sur la seule route qui relie Saltwhitle Bay à Saline bay. À mi-chemin, c’est la récompense d’un panorama haut en couleurs. Des bleus à couper le souffle et des dégradés qui n’ont rien à envier à la Polynésie. Je dis, récompense, car il faut ce le gagner ce tableau de carte postale avec la chaleur et la pente à plus de 35º ! La déclivité elle, est plus douce, les fleurs subliment le parcours et la tranquillité nous ferait presque oublier nos efforts d’ascension ! Et quand c’est au tour de l’autre versant de nous charmer, il n’y va pas par quatre chemins… Il sait s’y prendre, au-dessus de ses eaux translucidement émeraude, il a penché les atouts exotiques de ses palmes cocotières. Her unique features include the hull design, the unstayed and tabernackled carbon mast, leeboards, and a transom-hung retractable rudder to name a few. It's been over a year since I started restoring this old 13' Boston Whaler and I am finally close to finishing. I found this little boat sitting neglected at Kona Kai Marina on the mega yacht dock and was able to get my hands on it for $1500 including the 20hp Honda outboard motor with the tiller arm. What I thought would be a two week turn around on this boat has taken me over a year and has inconvenienced almost everyone at Kona Kai Marina in one way or another. Luckily with the help of my friends I can now see the finish line on this never ending project and hopefully It will be tied up next to my Catalina 30 with a surfboard on it in by September 13th. Just in time to make it to see Chicago at Humphreys. When I first pulled it out of the water I was determined to slap some bottom paint on it, buy a new carburetor for the motor, and call it good. How naive I was. As I began to sand the bottom and as the temperature fluctuated I noticed water seeping out of some cracks in the bottom of the hull. I thought a couple days out of the water would be enough for it to drain from the inner foam core, but the water kept flowing. I ended up leaving it out of the water for months before I felt confident that the water was mostly gone. I proceeded to thoroughly sand the hull, clean it up with acetone, and apply Gel Magic to the underside to seal up all cracks and gouges. I then applied a barrier coat in white to further seal and protect the hull. The sides got another coat of white topside paint and the bottom was coated in black bottom paint. We then flipped the boat up onto a trailer and that's where this video begins. Just putting on the finishing touches now. Cleaning up and sealing the rails. Putting on the rub rail. We were not ready to sit on the porch in our rocking chairs just yet & we set off on a journey around Australia in our RV to test out how the family would manage without us. Of course they managed fine so after a few years in the RV we felt the time was right to fulfil our lifetime dream ......to sail around the world.

In der zweiten Bonusfolge widmen wir uns dem Menschen, der das Segeln von jetzt auf gleich verändert hat: Guillaume Verdier. Der Franzose war entscheidend an dem Prozess beteiligt, der Boote auf die Foils stellte. Unser Kollege Jan Maas sprach mit dem Ausnahmekonstrukteur und schildert, wie Verdier zu einem der gefragtesten Konstrukteure der Welt wurde. Und wie die Idee zu foilenden Monohulls wirklich entstand.

Esta tirolina que instaló Limitezero entre los pueblos de Sanlúcar de Guadiana y la población portuguesa de Alcautin es paso obligado de turistas y navegantes de estos bonitos pueblos, nosotros después de 12 años subiendo el rio en nuestro velero por fin nos atrevimos a subir. Es una experiencia muy recomendable. El precio es de 20 euros con los transportes entre los pueblos incluidos, muy buen precio.

Excess 15 E-Lab, c'est un prototype équipé de deux moteurs électriques Torqeedo de 50 kW, de deux générateurs et de deux batteries BMW i3. Vitesse maximum au moteur : environ 10 noeuds. Essai complet de l'Excess 15 standard vs le Lagoon 50 dans Multicoques Mag n°200 https://www.multicoques-mag.com/essais/catamaran/excess-15-vs-lagoon-50 Dans le cadre de son Excess Lab, espace en ligne qui met en relation les experts Excess directement avec les propriétaires existants et potentiels, Excess Catamarans a dévoilé lors du Cannes Yachting Festival un Excess 15 propulsé par le système hybride Deep Blue Hybrid du motoriste Torqeedo. En clair, il s’agit de deux moteurs électriques de 50 kW combinés à deux batteries lithium-ion Deep Blue BMW i3 de grande capacité, deux générateurs ainsi qu’un dispositif d’hydrogénération sous voile. Nous avons pu embarquer à bord et constater la puissance des moteurs – 10 nœuds en pointe – et l’étonnant couple assuré même à bas régime. Fini les vibrations ; en revanche, ces moteurs sont assez bruyants – tout comme le mode hydrogénération. Lors des essais, le système a délivré suffisamment d'électricité pour alimenter 100 % des équipements embarqués à une vitesse de croisière de 7 à 8 nœuds. La phase 2 du projet Excess 15 E-Lab sera de renforcer le parc panneaux photovoltaïques. We sailed our Corsair trimaran from Oahu to Maui for the weekend. We drove the Road to Hana and found the most beautiful waterfall hike I've ever come across. The sailing started intense with sustained winds of 30+ knots and wild short period swell. Just a day later we found ourselves sailing in perfect spinnaker conditions, sledding down waves and riding puffs for miles at time. We drove the Road to Hana and stumbled into an almost hidden hike (with some directions from a friend). At the entrance we found a guava tree with ripe fruit that I snacked on throughout the hike. We hiked through a tropical forest and thick bamboo to find multiple waterfalls with deep pools perfect for cliff jumping. Absolute paradise. It's easy to lose track of the little things that aren't little things. Boating is new to us, so in all the preparations and making sure we get the drills down right and don't forget things (like making sure the shore power is unplugged before we leave the dock!) it's easy to forget Mother Nature and the Weather! Check the weather often - before you leave, and frequently when you're en route, and so on. We have a habit (now!) of looking for weather warnings and patterns throughout our trips. We learned that with Mzungu once, where the winds really picked up at our former marina and coming back was a bit of a struggle, and docking was a time of High Emotion where I was caught by a gust and the stern swung and I almost hit a very nice sailboat. A lot of good lessons that day! I would not want to be docking in the weather that hit us a couple of weeks ago - eventually, it will pass. Might take awhile, but I'd rather wait at a dock or mooring somewhere than try to race ahead in extreme winds and rain. So - check a couple of sites (I use Windfinder and WIndy and standard Weather Network information) and stay safe!!

Spirit Yachts has announced a partnership with EON Productions, Metro Goldwyn Mayer Studios (MGM) and Universal Pictures International. The partnership sees a Spirit 46 sailing yacht feature in the upcoming film No Time To Die in UK cinemas from 30th September and in the U.S. from 8th October 2021.
