Eine Tour an das Nordkap

We sailed from Helgoland to Vlieland in 21 hours, sailing 127.5 NM. We left in the evening with 12 knots of wind and sailed the whole night. In the morning we had to motor sail. Later on we could sail again. Now we are home again, as Vlieland feels like coming home, after 5 weeks of sailing Scandinavia.

So this week we make the short journey along the coast from the river Orwell and into the river Deban. Its a pretty straightforward trip apart from one thing. The Deban is surrounded by large sandbars that are constantly moving and it always seems to get our blood pumping. Scuba Diving at Hol Chan Marine Reserve close to Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker, off the coast of Belize. The reserve covers approximately 18 km² of coral reefs, seagrass beds, and mangrove forest. Hol Chan is Mayan for "little channel" and the current in the channel can be quite strong. Staying close to the walls can reduce the force of the current during your dive.

Red bananas, who knew? Never seen them myself so we got a bunch and boy they are good! Once a week there is a fresh food market in Nembrala, Rote but you have to get there early before all the expats snap up the good stuff. We walked the 1km out there and filled our bags with awesome fresh vegetables and fruit. Our dinghy has been leaking water so it was time to look into that and we were able to do that at Bruce's boatyard, not far from our anchorage. We buddy boat with the 35' liveaboard catamaran Slug Hunter along with Nora and the team from Deefer Diving to go on a diving expedition into the Kick'em Jenny Volcano excusion zone. After a great time we sail upwind back to Carriacou and haul the boat out at Tyrell Bay Marina & Boatyard. Our J Boat is in need of some love and a bottom massage after nearly two years of off the grid living in the remote areas of the Bahamas, Caribbean, and West Indies. The keel gets a good fairing job as we think boatspeed is very important in our upcoming trans-atlantic journey. We also love on the looks of our beautiful girl as we varnish the cabin sole and entry way. To make things just a bit more challenging, we are suprised with the eruption of the La Soufriere Volcano on St. Vincent island, just to the north of us. The winds carried volcanic ash and suit onto our boat in Grenada. Before we can even think about laying them down though, there's a number of steps we need to go through first to prep the area. Through the plans given to us by Max Cruise Marine, we need to make 90 degree flanges, which will attach to the webbing inside each hull. In this video, we leave Bora-Bora and arrive at the island of Taha'a. A tour of a pearl farm shows us how they create and harvest black pearls. We enjoy dinner and a show at Le Ficus restaurant, where they cook the meal by means of a traditional Tahitian oven. Then we meet up with the friendliest local family on a little motu (island) in Apu Bay. Finally, we move to a mooring ball off Raiatea and double the lines on the mooring as the wind and rain picks up.....looks like it's going to get hairy....even moored within 100m of the protective reef!
