Anchoring inside the only Atlantic atoll surrounded by wrecks and waves crashing on the reef was an experience. What a lousy night we had in there but amazing views from above as we were actually anchoring in the middle of the Caribbean Sea. From Hogsty Reef we continue further north-west in search of Long Island's blue holes whose magic seems to suck you in when free diving into these geologic formations. 120m deep, no human being ever having touched the bottom with further caves below the water line. This FERRETTI 480, a true Italian luxurious flybridge cruiser, has been completely refurbished in 2020. Completely is almost underestimated. Literally, every door, wall, ceiling and floor in the interior has been renewed with the finest materials. In fact, she is in spotless condition. She is powered by two MAN diesel engines with 630 hp each. Furthermore, equipped with; bow thruster, generator, complete navigation equipment at both helms, sun awnings, bimini and numerous covers. Furthermore a wetbar with fridge, retractable Besenzoni gangway, dinghy with outboard, life raft, washing machine and a Climate Control system throughout the yacht. The flybridge, aft deck, ample bathing platform and steps are all laid with teak and are in very good condition. The interior of this Ferretti 480 is luxuriously fitted out with soft leather upholstery, Cherrywood, stainless steel, Alcantara, modern carpets and curtains, etc. Looking at the pictures you’ll notice that this interior is not the average Ferretti interior and that she really stands out from the rest. The galley is sunken into the boats’ design which creates a feeling of space in the main saloon. Forward of the galley is the raised dinette with twin lounge seating. And to port is the well-appointed helm station. This 480 has three cabins, two guest cabins with twin single berths and the owner’s cabin with island berth. The bathroom for the guests with wash basin, shower stall and electric toilet is located to port, while the owner’s cabin has its own ensuite. We sailed back to our own harbor “Schokkerstrand” with some stops in Marken/Volendam and in Enkhuizen At ‘Schokkerstrand’ our friend, Grieta came by, to pimp Hermann(our dinghy). The next day the kids and grandchildren came there to spend some time with us. After that lovely weekend, it was time to go back to Amsterdam to get our last vaccinations. Rented a car for a weekend and it was time to see family and friends before we untie the lines. After 6 years dreaming, doing a lot of work & preparations, it is finally time to leave. Many emotions in this period, Sad to leave family and friends behind. Scared of not knowing what will come. How will our girl / our home handle in rough seas? Did we do enough preparations? More and more sailing friends arrive at the anchorage, so when Linda leaves we don't feel too lonely. We catch up with the crew of Esperanza who narrowly escaped an Orca-attack (visit them on Insta: yasc_sailingesperanza). With the crew of Ocean Monkey we discover a remote beach after a hike that we felt in our legs for days (their Insta: sv.oceanmonkey). One night we all came together for a crazy pole-party! 🥳 Next time, we will fill our sails with wind again and head towards either the Algarve or Madeira. It will be a surprise, even for us.

Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. #114 ✍️Il fait beau, de légers nuages épars moutonnent le ciel au-dessus de ladite « Tahiti des Antilles ». C’est l’une des plus méridionales de l’État de Saint-Vincent-et-les-Grenadines et l’une des dernières de notre séjour Grenadien. Quelques pavillons usés battent au-dessus d’une barque de pêcheurs hors de l’eau. Nous sommes à Union, dans la petite ville de Clifton devenue depuis plusieurs années, une plaque tournante du tourisme au cœur des Grenadines, mais ça, c’était avant ! Aujourd’hui, il n’y a plus de vacanciers, plus de charters, plus d’animations, nous rappelant que la crise Covid n’épargne personne ! Sur toutes les petites boutiques de couleurs de la place du marché, seule une, est ouverte ! Celle de Jane, avec ses fruits et légumes. Du frais, presque trois semaines que nous n’en n’avons pas retrouvé « autant ». Les commerçants n’ont plus d’acheteurs, les artistes plus d’admirateurs, la petite ville, plus d’entrain. Le micro climat de Chattam Bay nous a apporté un bon coup de vent et de l’eau, beaucoup d’eau, mais il n’empêche que la baie est magnifique et le mouillage hyper calme. Sur fond sableux, des étoiles de mer étirent leurs branches, un grondin déploie ses belles nageoires bleu électrique, une sorte d’araignée marine se délecte de ses mets microscopiques, les anémones se dérobent dans leur tube muqueux et mon capitaine, dans tout ça, mon capitaine exulte de bonheur. Quand nous ne sommes pas sous l’eau, ou sur Blacky à essayer de trouver d’où vient le bruit mystérieux de ragage de notre chaine, c’est pour être à terre, en excursion, et cette fois-ci c’est pour grimper au sommet du point de vu le plus haut de l’île, le mont Taboi ! Je galère, je palpite, je m’essouffle, je suis à la traine. Ce n’est pourtant pas à mon habitude. Même les pitchounes du bateau copains sont plus performants que moi ! Le 360º, valait la grimpette. Le panorama est splendide ! Nous sommes vannés, ce qui n’est pas le cas des plus jeunes qui s’impatientent de la promesse de mon capitaine. Atelier fabrication de leurres l’après-midi ! Échange, partage, entraide, tout ce que l’on aime. Les journées passent sans se ressembler et c’est déjà bientôt la fin de notre séjour et le retour des formalités et du test PCR ! En attendant les résultats, les pieds dans le sable, le drone au-dessus de Morpion et de son unique parasol en feuilles de cocotiers, nous captons les images de cet instant unique, les pélicans en sont témoins ! Petit Saint-Vincent, notre prochaine destination est confirmée, elle se trouve à un peu moins de 130 milles. Après demain, nous serons à Trinidad, mais avant, entourés de nos amis et de plein d’amour, je passe le cap d’une année de plus ! Little by little we get used to sailing on our own. It is a great feeling and we are trully enjoying it. Along with it it comes so much more responsibilities. The cost of Portugal is beautiful and last time on aour Lagoon 42 we did not stop to see anything as we had a crew that was not much into stopping at places since they felt it was a good idea to get away from the coast of Portugal as asap and get into the more calm water of the Med. We sailed down to Colombia from Martinique non-stop, dodging hurricane Elsa. Here you can find our film about this exhausting trip: https://youtu.be/2xqFB86KHC4 We have several reasons to be in Colombia: - it is a beautiful South American country; - the arrival protocol for sailors is very easy in COVID times – no quarantine, no PCR tests required; - we were waiting for Tali’s daughter Ksenia to arrive. Due to the last travel restrictions we didn’t see her for the last 2,5 years; - Tali’s passport. The old one is full of stamps and will expire soon. After very quick and easy checking in Tali went to Bogota to apply for her new passport in the Russian Consulate in Bogota and to see her good friend Ana. We were told that the new passport will be ready on 3 months or maybe more. In Bogota it was really chilly and rainy, anout 10 degrees, because the city is situated in the mountains at an altitude of 2500 meters. And when she came back to Cartagena the temperatire difference was about 20 degrees. In a few days we picked up Ksenia from the airort of Cartagena and sailed down 20 nm to Isla Baru, Cienaga de cholon and Islas del Rosario. Clear water and wonderful holiday feeling. To my knowledge, Gemini Catamarans are the only catamarans that are still currently built in the USA. Gemini offers a relatively affordable alternative to the new catamaran market, which seems to only have boats starting at almost half a million. This is certainly not the case with Gemini, but are they worth it? Older Gemini's can usually be gotten for less than 100k in good shape. This particular boat is a bit rough around the edges, and lacks a motor, but she's priced at $60,000. What do you think? On even years, at The Resolute Cup, yacht clubs from across the United States, vie for the right to compete in the following year's Invitational Cup,, and bragging rights as one of the United States' top sailing clubs. This is Day 3, Moving Day, for the Southern Yacht Club, and Taylor Canfield.
