We are a Dutch/Australian family of four. Come along with us and our two daughters on our journey as we sail our little 25 foot yacht Empress over the Marker Lake and the Ijssel Lake. We explore old seaside towns of Edam, Enkhuisen, Stavoren, Hindeloopen, Medemblik, and of course Amsterdam along the way. In this video we experience many ups and downs from a collision with our vessel, to extreme weather conditions. We get to eat ice-cream in the most picturesque European towns we've seen. We visit the Edam cheese museum, the Zuiderzee museum and go on some epic evening walks exploring at our own pace. We hope you enjoy this video!

In which I begin the journey to bring Ladybug from Rhode Island to her new home on the fabled Hudson River. We traveled from Portsmouth down Rhode Island Sound to Point Judith, then hung a starboard across Block Island, Fishers Island and Long Island Sounds. We caught some Zs in Old Saybrook CT and found ourselves stuck in the morning mud at low spring tide. That evening we made it to Manhasset Bay, where we caught a mooring ball for a few hours until the tide was favorable for transiting Hell Gate and the East River at 2:30am. Catch the next episode for the East River passage. Ladybug is a 1976 Bristol 34. I mostly use a Pixel 3 to shoot my videos and I edit in Adobe Premiere. Did you know that there are several steps you can take to ensure that you’re not bulldozed over by a ship while out sailing? Avoiding ship collisions is an important part of being a confident sailing cruiser. Quite a few new sailors get nervous when tankers or cruise ships are in the area. Tankers are often going fast, sometimes their intentions are unknown and if you fail to avoid them correctly they can be right on top of you before you know it.  Watch the video and then visit our website to get more information on how to avoid ship collisions here: https://sailingbritican.com/avoiding-ship-collisions/ +++++++++++++++ Resources +++++++++++++++ JOIN US FOR A SAIL ON BRITICAN The Britican Experience: https://sailingbritican.com/liveaboard-experience/ Check out our blog hosting over 400 articles and videos all about sailing/cruising/liveaboard life here: https://sailingbritican.com Visit our Sailing Britican sailing guides/books shop here. Ride along as we hear about the adventures of Greg & Lisa Smith, owners of Privateer, a Kadey Krogen 52. The Krogen 52 epitomizes the true essence of every Krogen built since 1977: an all-oceans-capable trawler yacht with incredible liveaboard accommodations for a couple or family. This is combined with a level of craftsmanship and attention to detail that only a handful of boatbuilders achieve. The machinery and components we employ on the 52, and indeed every Krogen model, reflect our deep understanding that the open ocean is no place for inferior products.

A video covering the 2021 DF95 (DragonFlite) National Championships held at Fleetwood model yacht and power boat club in September of 2021. For those not familiar with the DF95 aka DragonFlite please check out some of our other videos which go into more detail but basically the boat is a mass produced, off the shelf model yacht that is raced as a one design class, all boats are technically the same and available at low cost, which provides close and competitive racing. Radio Sailing (Model yacht racing) is a competitive form of yacht racing run along similar lines to dinghy racing and keelboat racing.

In part 2 of our Norwalk series, our boat work is mainly little projects while we wait for the marina to finish out their yearly boat show. We change some lighting, add some bling, and do some simple but fun things on the boat while we are enjoying a beautiful anchorage just outside of Norwalk called Chimon Island. We also make sure we squeeze in good times, good fun, and of course best of all, good friends. Cheers and thanks for being here! Don't forget to LIKE and SUBSCRIBE! Join authors Dr. Timothy Walker, Dr. Cheryl LaRoche, and National Park Service Ranger Shawn Quigley for a virtual presentation about the new book, Sailing to Freedom: Maritime Dimensions of the Underground Railroad. In December of 1849 15-year-old Elizabeth Blakeley successfully escaped enslavement in Wilmington, North Carolina by hiding on a ship bound for Boston. By the mid-19th century, her method of escape was so common that Southern port authorities took extraordinary measures to try to stop it. Though modern Underground Railroad scholarship focuses almost exclusively on overland routes, new research demonstrates that large numbers of enslaved individuals gained their freedom by sea aboard coastal vessels bound for Northern ports. Almost all successful escapes from the deep south were achieved by sea. In the new book Sailing to Freedom: Maritime Dimensions of the Underground Railroad, ten historians explore the less-understood maritime side of the Underground Railroad, including the impact of African Americans' paid and unpaid waterfront labor. About the Speakers Dr. Cheryl LaRoche is an Associate Professor in Historic Preservation at UMD. Her first book, Free Black Communities and the Underground Railroad: The Geography of Resistance, was published in 2014 by the University of Illinois Press. Dr. Timothy Walker, Professor of History at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, is a scholar of maritime history, colonial overseas expansion, and trans-oceanic slave trading. Walker is a guest investigator of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, a contributing faculty member of the Munson Institute of Maritime Studies, and Director of the NEH “Landmarks in American History” workshops series, titled “Sailing to Freedom: New Bedford and the Underground Railroad” (2011–2021). Shawn Quigley has been park guide for the National Park Service at the National Parks of Boston since 2012. He has spent most of his professional career exploring the history of Boston’s free African American community in the 19th century and its role in the abolition movement and the fight for civil rights.

Götheborg of Sweden is heading out once again. The ship stands as a symbol for bravery, entrepreneurship, and innovation, and is Sweden's largest trade venture ever. Now we are doing it all over again. With our new expedition, a selected number of great brands and partners will join us, and we are putting innovations for a sustainable future on display. Götheborg is the world's largest, active wooden sailing ship, and now we are heading out on an East Asian Expedition, leaving shore in spring 2022.

It’s finally time to install the two new sinks in Nutshell’s galley. This is something which we have wanting to do for a very long time. We were restricted by the state of the plumbing underneath and also the fact that we hadn’t been able to really check the integrity of the through hull under the sink. Luckily we didn’t attempt this before replacing the corroded through hull! We know that we are going to be replacing the laminex bench top in the future, so we need to minimise the difference from the hole for the old sinks and the two new sinks. So, we decided to butt them together to achieve this. When we fit the new laminex bench top down the track we will space them apart. Thanks for watching. Hi I'm Marnie! Usually, I am behind the camera but this was my first ever offshore sailing adventure on a catamaran and my first experience doing overnighters. I decided to film as much as I could to give you an inside look into what these kinds of non-stop journeys really look like so you can decide whether it is something you would be interested in doing. This trip was a deliberate delivery onboard a Lagoon 42 however, this experience would be likened to any long continuous offshore adventure! I genuinely LOVED this and it is certainly something I can see myself doing in the future. I am not a heavy sleeper so I was actually shocked at how well I did sleep. I definitely am a catamaran convert, the comfort and stability have really won me over! DISCLAIMER: We were obviously very lucky with the weather, I am not prone to seasickness and have spent a lot of time onboard monohulls. MY TIPS... - Probably don't do a long 2-day voyage without any prior experience or time on boats, make sure you have your sealegs ready first with some day trips. - Make sure you have communicated to the skippers/ other crew members what your role will be on board and any safety instructions/ procedures you need to be aware of. - When starting out on an offshore trip stay above deck, find somewhere with good airflow and a view of the horizon. - Stay off your phone, listen to music or podcasts if you need to. - RELAX! Being onboard a boat is one of the most enjoyable and calming things so lap in that nature and sea breeze! We had not heard much about the Mona passage before we realized that there was no way we could exit East of Puerto Rico. But the fact that it has a name (let alone a reputation) should have been enough of a red flag. After three days of tiring upwind sailing across the Caribbean, we welcomed a calm morning as we approached Puerto Rico. Unfortunately, the calm did not last and we soon figured out where the Mona passage gets its reputation from. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ** GEAR WE USE ** ⛵️Our boat: Polar Seal, 2007 Beneteau Oceanis 40, owners version (2 cabins layout).  Full tour and review of Polar Seal at: https://youtu.be/sxqKYydlxd0  🎥 Photo & Film gear Our camera: https://amzn.to/3c063hN Lavalier microphone system: https://amzn.to/2WmNvlh Image stabilizing lens: https://amzn.to/2Kiq89i Wide angle lens: https://amzn.to/2YuG8Ls Shotgun microphone: https://amzn.to/2z2zy40 Microphone windjammer: https://amzn.to/2Yt3O2M Our action camera: https://amzn.to/2ypdWyJ Action camera microphone: https://amzn.to/3c5rrm4 Our drone: https://amzn.to/2tDjRdU ⚠️ Disclosure:  Some of the links above are affiliate links. This force cracked the internal grid in several places and broke a portion of the grid free from hull. At some point an inspection was done, insurance was called and decisions were made. See https://youtu.be/JJ3MruoO2q4 for how we came to own her! **************************************** *Our Gear* Main Camera: https://amzn.to/3csaFjz Main Lens: https://amzn.to/3cwZRkl Microphone: https://amzn.to/3iSDGoV Go Pro: https://amzn.to/4ibLwJV Drone: https://amzn.to/2Yf3X8S Laptop: https://amzn.to/3h9ydcL *Find Us Elsewhere* Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ExpeditionEvans J Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/Jadexploring/ B Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/_BrettEvans_ EE Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ExpeditionEvans Dingo Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/DingoEvans Penny Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/PenntelopeEvans TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@Expedition_Evans *Website/blog* https://www.expeditionevans.com *Want to support us?" https://www.patreon.com/expeditionevans https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=FWBYD33TFEBRY *How we've started making subtitles* try.rev.com/3q9Tjr

#318 Preview our episodes early and bonus blooper videos! We also jumped on a recorded live stream over the weekend. Check out our Patreon page: http://bit.ly/SLVPatreon We are roughing it on our impromptu journey up the Western Australian coast. Coffee and fish out of the boot with one burner between 5. But it's pretty great just hanging out on the beach and making do. We're around some great people and some great water. Seriously great water. Up here is teeming with so much life and great dive spots. If you get the chance to come to these parts of WA you honestly won't regret it. It's so worth how long it takes here, it rivals the best of what we've seen in the world and its remoteness is actually a blessing. Also! Stick around for some real talk at the end, we want to share some thoughts with you guys on how we're travelling. Finally we have guests! After a solid year of not seeing any friends or family, we finally have some good friends visit from Melbourne. They’ve had a longer lock down than the rest of Australia, so they were just as relieved to get out and meet us! We depart Mooloolaba for Moreton Island where we sand board, beach party and snorkel the famous Tangalooma Wrecks. Enjoy! 0:00 - Congrats Jeff from Murgon Queensland! 0:43 - Intro 1:04 - Special Guests! 3:38 - Oops 5:54 - Departing Mooloolaba 8:19 - Sandboarding the Empire State Building of sand 11:28 - Navigating Kooringal Point 15:54 - Sandhills Anchorage 17:30 - Lego Masters 18:15 - Tangalooma Wrecks 20:44 - Saying Goodbye 22:50 - Up Next We are posting live updates on our social channels: https://www.the-sailing-family.com/ https://www.instagram.com/the_sailing_family/ https://www.facebook.com/the-sailing-family-voyage/ ----------------- ABOUT US: We are a family of five sailing around the world on a performance catamaran named "Archer" and sharing our adventures in family-friendly episodes every Tuesday! OUR ROUTE: We departed the Boston area of the United States and sailed south to the Caribbean and then west through the Panama Canal. We have dealt with massive repairs in the South Pacific, the Coronavirus lock down in New Zealand, a Category 5 Cyclone in Fiji, and now we are cruising in Australia. OUR PAST: You may remember us as "SV Honeymoon?" Ten years ago ("before kids"), we sailed a Lagoon 380 named Honeymoon halfway around the world to Sydney, Australia. Along the way we shared our experiences via YouTube and, by happenstance, created one of the very first "sailing channels." We also realized what an incredible experience we were having and that someday we wanted to do it again, only this time with kids. FAQ: More questions? Check out our Frequently Asked Questions page on our website or answers to many of your questions in this 40 minute episode: https://www.the-sailing-family.com/faq https://youtu.be/jBzTUVZ5oG4 PLEASE COMMENT!: As a channel with kids on-board, we are required to actively monitor all comments, but we still want to hear from you. Tell us what you think! THANKS for watching all. Subscribe and never miss an episode!
