Our second tips video, focused on cooking. Essential when doing a refit two hours from home through a Welsh winter. We are refitting a 44 year old Rival 38 for a Sustainable Sailing retirement in a few years. Two years ago, when we bought Vida she was in a very tired and damp condition with all original equipment and fittings. We have removed all the gas, diesel and paraffin equipment, and are installing all electric (motor, cooking etc). Now that the inside is dry (thanks to new windows, new hatches and leak chasing) we are fitting her out for live-aboard world cruising. In this episode, we do a bit of city hoping in Colombia. Our first stop is the 4th largest city in Colombia, Barranquilla. Next, we visit Medellin and the notorious Comuna 13, once known as being one of the most dangerous places in the world but now a creative masterpiece full of street art and performers. We then head to Gautape Rock to check out this tourist hot spot. When we get back to the marina, we go for a sailing adventure to the lesser traveled area of Tayrona Park. Anders has been at the sea most of his life and sailed for the Swedish national dingy sailing team as a young man. Gitte has also grown up with boat and spent every summer sailing with her father as a teenager but made a pause of about 15 years without sailing as an adult, had just begun to pick-up the interest before she meet Anders a 4 years ago. Onboard we also have our cat Litza a 3 year old Devon Rex we call her the cattain because cats always decide over their humans. Litza is a Devon Rex cat and she is the real cattain aboard. Fridá af Wisby is a Wauquiez 47 pilot saloon that we Gitte and Anders bought in UK in 2019 and that we have sailed to Gotland and in season 1 2020 we sail in the Baltic Sea.

#119 ✍️Le soleil nous sourit, c’est certainement un bon présage ! Astreins à patienter sous ses rayons tropicaux, nous faisons passer le temps comme l’on peut dans la baie de Sainte Anne, où l’on a élu domicile. On ne va quand même pas nous plaindre, il y a pire comme endroit pour atermoyer la suite de notre aventure. Le plus difficile dans tout ça c’est de ne pas avoir de date, de ne pas savoir exactement quand nous allons pouvoir repartir. Il faut alors vraiment occuper nos esprits et notre petit Navy (le petit chien de nos amis) est un remède plus qu’efficace ! Nous arriverions presque à craquer. Il serait tellement facile de se laisser amadouer par cette petite boule de poile, pleine d’amour et de tendresse ! Surtout que les bonnes raisons d’avoir un chien ne manquent pas. Si ce n’était que les échanges de mails avec les autorités et les vétérinaires, ou les vaccins, passe encore, là où ça devient contraignant c’est lorsqu’il y a quarantaine. Et il y a aussi d’autres tracas, comme les pipis et cacas, les sortis, les réserves et parcs interdits… Bref, en ce qui nous concerne, la compagnie d’un toutou, nous l’imaginons quand nous serons papy, mamy ! Maserati Multi 70 e Giovanni Soldini sono pronti per il via della 42a edizione della Rolex Middle Sea Race, organizzata dal Royal Ocean Racing Club, che conta 120 partecipanti da più di 20 nazioni. I 6 multiscafi in gara saranno i primi a tagliare la linea di partenza, nel Grand Harbour della Valletta, alle 9 UTC (11 ora italiana) di domani sabato 23 ottobre. I diretti concorrenti di Maserati Multi 70 sono i due MOD 70 Argo (USA), con skipper Brian Thompson, e Mana (ITA), con skipper Jeff Mearing e il leggendario navigatore Loick Peyron. Maserati Multi 70 partirà in assetto MOD senza appendici volanti, con foil e timoni classici. Giovanni Soldini commenta: «Avevamo un accordo tra gentiluomini con il team di Argo che avremmo navigato con la stessa configurazione non volante, per gareggiare alla pari tra MOD 70 anche con Mana, invece siamo molto sorpresi perché abbiamo scoperto solo due giorni fa che Argo, dopo aver visto la meteo, ha deciso di navigare con i foil volanti. Noi siamo comunque pronti alla sfida, la barca è in gran forma e venderemo cara la pelle!». Questa edizione della regata si preannuncia più ventosa del solito lungo quasi tutto il percorso, fatta eccezione per qualche buco di vento, come nello Stretto di Messina. La situazione a sud della Sicilia è ancora poco chiara, mentre a nord dell’isola sono previsti venti tra i 25 e i 30 nodi. A bordo di Maserati Multi 70 con Giovanni Soldini 7 velisti professionisti: il boat captain Guido Broggi, il velista olimpionico Vittorio Bissaro, gli esperti navigatori Lorenzo Bressani, Francesco Pedol, Oliver Herrera Perez, Matteo Soldini e il giovane francese Thomas Joffrin. Lo skipper commenta: «L’equipaggio è super, siamo molto contenti di avere di nuovo a bordo con noi Lorenzo Bressani, che dopo l’esperienza dell’anno scorso ha deciso di tornare anche per questa edizione della Rolex Middle Sea Race. Inoltre, per la prima volta, si è aggiunto Thomas Joffrin, un ragazzo molto giovane di 22 anni, ma che ha già tantissima esperienza». Il percorso della regata, di 606 miglia, consiste in un giro in senso antiorario della Sicilia, con partenza e traguardo alla Valletta, passando a nord di Stromboli, a ovest di Favignana e Pantelleria e a sud di Lampedusa. Il record dei multiscafi della regata appartiene a Maserati Multi 70, fissato nel 2016 (2 giorni, 1 ora, 25 minuti e 1 secondo), mentre il record assoluto è del maxi monoscafo Rambler, fissato nel 2007 da George David (1 giorno, 23 ore, 55 minuti e 3 secondi).
