This BENETEAU OCEANIS 51.1 with silver-grey hull is a great cruiser offering excellent performance and superb living comfort on board. She has large teak-laid decks and a fully opening transom that converts into a large teak-laid bathing platform. And thanks to her wide beam she has quite an ample cockpit. The steering area is well-organized, and there is plenty of room to relax on the sunbathing cushions on both sides of the companionway, the cockpit seats with cushioned coamings, and the sunbathing area on the foredeck. Milton Island was great - we had it all to ourselves, after all - but the wind shifted overnight and we had a bumpy sleep with lines and fenders squealing. Around 4:00am I got up and fixed the worst of the squeaking by putting a microfibre cloth between the line and the hull. Reduced the friction, I guess, but at least we were about to get to sleep! It was fun to walk around the island, and again, I'm always so impressed with the great condition of the park facilities. Money well spent! And then, off to Kingston. It was a short hop, and the staff at Confederation Basin were great - from letting us know the best way to get into the berth, to having a deckhand ready for us, to the clean showers and toilets at the marina. I really appreciated the security of having a key-code to access the facilities and the marina. Dinner was takeout from the Kingston Brewing Company (https://www.kingstonbrewing.ca/) and we were joined by some good friends for food and drink on board! In this episode, we leave Carteret and sail to Camaret sur Mer on the Atlantic coast. It is a long, slow voyage against the wind for two days and nights. To make life easier for the person off watch we make long tacks offshore so they can sleep. We get a wonderful surprise on the morning after the 2nd night. A visit from dolphins that were playing around the boat for a very long time. There also seemed to be some amorous activity going on. 😉. Leontien loves dolphins so much that there is an extended portion of the video dedicated to this interaction. After arriving in Camaret sur Mer, we explore the area and meet up with new friends Kim and Vin from Heron. They also have a YouTube channel called "Sailing Heron". In last week’s episode we arrived in Italy to spend a week on a sailing charter with friends. The boat was a 2018 48ft Beneteau which was surprisingly roomy with 10 of us piled into it. We start this episode on our way to visit some of the best sights that the Amalfi Coast has to offer and our first stop is on the Isle of Capri. After a turbulent night in a VERY expensive marina, we sail straight on to Positano, a stunning vertically build town built amongst towing rock walls. We continue exploring in our usual fashion of getting lost down random laneways, but eventually have to head back to the boat where we continue sailing along the coast in the direction of Amalfi itself. In the impossibly tight marina, we get a little assistance with docking from what is arguably THE best helmsman we have EVER seen. Par nature, le circuit SailGP pousse les meilleurs marins du monde à jouer avec les limites. Un exercice dans lequel les différents équipages internationaux excellent mais qui expose également hommes et femmes à des situations qui peuvent s’avérer critiques, allant de chocs, parfois violents, au chavirage du F50 comme sur la photo ci-dessus. Pour les protéger, les organisateurs du circuit ont développé une véritable tenue de combat que les équipages peuvent adapter et faire évoluer en partenariat avec des marques. Olivier Herdelant (à gauche sur la vidéo) et Matthieu Vandame présentent ce matériel spécifique à la pratique des très hautes vitesses en mer en équipage. Au programme, casque connecté, veste d’impact, caleçon long renforcé, harnais de sécurité… Les hommes et les femmes du circuit SailGP partent sur l’eau harnachés… Mais c’est le prix d’une meilleure sécurité.
