Welcome to episode 73 of Sailing Melody Winter is coming and it's getting colder and colder here at Sailing Melody. We had to take all the old ceiling panels down last year to facilitate repairs and welding and over the summer it's been fine but with the temperature here dropping and the wind and rain setting in it's time we put up some of the new insulation, bought for us by Tim, in the saloon. We will eventually go frond each of the insulation panels with a closed cell spray foam to seal the edges and hold things in place but for now we're not doing that as we still need to remove the panels to continue wiring and bits and pieces of work. Along with that Melissa explains our work, home life, school and boat life situation and does an amazing job on all tree while Andy is off working his normal job on shifts. And in little break in the weather Melissa even manages to get another part of the boat prepped and painted with Jotun 2k epoxy paint. This is a huge refit and refurbishment of this big, old, abandoned steel yacht and it's not only time consuming, it's complicated and quite expensive so we really do value any help we can get, whether it's helpful advice and comments on the video or gifts through our Amazon Wishlist or actual contributions through Patreon, Paypal and Ko-Fi. After waiting several weeks, I finally undergo surgery and this is a look inside how I got a full hip replacement. From the day before I go in to the hospital to the actual surgery. #126 ✍️Pour cette traversée, mon capitaine s’est conditionné, navigation en solo. Il veut m’éviter tout effort. Météo téléchargée sur Weather 4D et routage effectué sur Navionix, il s’essaie sur une nouvelle application Sail Grib Free pour avoir un comparatif. Quelques gouttes de pluie résonnent sur le bimini, des grains sont annoncés cette nuit ! 5 heures 15, le pont n’a pas eu le temps de sécher, le vent n’est pas encore levé, l’ancre est remontée. Une vigie s’impose jusqu’au point de rosé, ensuite à la pointe nord de la Martinique, le moteur pourra s’arrêter. De la navigation à l’état pur, c’est exactement ce que veut transmettre par ses images, ma moitié. 7,3 nœuds, rafales à 26, vent de travers, on y est ! Le canal de la Dominique, c’est tout ça mélangé et une mer souvent à casse. Le genre de navigation pas vraiment agréable. Et puis, après deux heures trente, c’est le calme plat, protégés par l’île aux 350 lacs. Nous laissons derrière nous le chenal pour longer cette île nature. Elle nous met à l’abris de la houle, se veut bienfaitrice, mais ne peut s’empêcher de jouer avec ses reliefs ! C’est comme cela que l’espoir d’avancer sous gennak, né ! Il ne dure qu’un instant, retombe aussi tôt et reprend de l’élan avant qu’une dévente, ruine toute perspective ! La côte ouest s’étire, dans moins de 20 milles, Blacky aura dépassé le deuxième canal. Sans plus aucun bouclier de verdure, le vent va pouvoir se déchainer de nouveau. Mieux vaut rester prudent, reprendre un ris de plus pour se parer aux rafales qui ne vont pas nous épargner. Les éléments s’apaisent, Black Lion s’est encore une fois bien comporté. Il passe serein, la passe des dames. During year of (2009-2011) I gathered different parts of lead (mostly wheel weights) and friends giving lead parts. I made a "male" mold from white Styrofoam immersed in silica + 3% of betonite (should have used up to 10%). Heating/melting took over 7hrs - propane 250K BTU heater and 40K BTU hand held heater. This video shows how we built the bow cradle for our boat to sit in. Having a cradle to sit the boat in, is important for sitting a big boat like ours out of the water properly. Without the cradle we needed so many props to support us plus our big draft makes it complicated as we are very high above the ground and it's difficult to find tall enough support. In the last episode we built a cradle for the stern of the boat, but despite being pleased with the outcome, we decided that the method was too time consuming and costly. This video shows the new method we came up with for the bow cradle build which is much more economical and efficient.
