A beginner might be impressed with how easily you handle such a big boat, but in truth it’s often easier than on a monohull. Provided you respect a few rules… and do some practice. A little speed please! Due to its dimensions, the height of the superstructure and its rig, a catamaran will have much more windage than a monohull. This is why you’ve always got to keep a bit of speed on when maneuvering. For this reason, it’s very important to always keep the wind direction in mind when maneuvering and preferably avoid positioning yourself with the wind on the beam. So, the time has finally come. We are going offshore! In this episode, we head to Sibenik to export our new Highfield Dinghy. Which means we need to go off into international waters! Which for us, meant clearing out of Croatia, doing a 30 mile sail out, and 30 miles back, checking back in, and heading back out to anchor. The issue? We left MUCH later than planned. Because when one lands in Horta after a Transatlantic crossing, certain things ought to be done, we happily oblige. This week we leave Papeete and set sail to Moorea that has been on the bucket list for a long time. I prepare lunch while Kieran picks up the anchor with his new system, although he still need me in the end;) Arriving at the petrol station there is no water?! A petrol station without a tap? This is new for us. We borrow the tap from one of the super yachts and we’re ready to go. Nachos on the go, but lunch gets interrupted as a whale and it’s calf cross our path. I was so happy (as you hear hehe). The wind finally kicks in as we leave Tahiti. I was really enjoying the beautiful day and the full sails almost dosing off in the sun, when Kieran yells “whale!”. Four, five whales are just 100 meters away from us, and they wanted to say hi. Breaching one after the other and flapping their tail fin so close to Merewether. We were in aaw, completely taken back by these beautiful creatures. A dream come true. What better way to celebrate our 100th episode!! We’re so very grateful to everyone of you. In sailing "wind" is called "breeze" and it's usually classified as light, moderate or heavy. As sailors, you have to learn to spot the signs of breeze on the water...and sometimes you have to go chase it down!

We get things done also this week, even though there has been some challenges. Food shortage in the stores and marina running out of petrol and diesel. Still we manage not only getting things done but also have some fun. I'm also sharing some reflections as a reality check between intense boat work and social life. Thank you to everyone who joined us in Kemah, Texas to celebrate our partnership with Fountaine Pajot. We had ribbon-cutting, great food, live music, and over 100 customers, family members, and friends who made this event a success.

A sailor friend tipped us about Berlenga. What an awesome island! Freediving in crystal clear water with fish, octopus and cages to explore. A fortress that we first thought had little to offer, ended up giving us the greatest night with food, drinks, watermaker tour and light show.

City Sailing Ropes -We look at types of ropes, how they are made the the right ropes for each task. We look at traditional ropes, three-strand, braided and multicore ropes, and explain the difference and the rope you need for your boat. This is essential for your RYA Day Skipper and RYA Yachtmaster Courses as a back knowledge for your assessment or as an enjoyment to know more about ropes! Marine ropes are specialized types of ropes that are specifically designed for use in the marine environment. These ropes are often subject to harsh conditions such as saltwater, UV rays, and abrasion, so they need to be strong, durable, and resistant to wear and tear. Here are some common types of marine ropes: Double braid nylon rope: This is a strong and durable rope that is commonly used for anchoring, docking, and mooring boats. It has a soft feel and good shock absorption properties, which makes it ideal for these applications. Polypropylene rope: Polypropylene rope is lightweight, floats in water, and is resistant to rot and mildew. It is commonly used in applications such as water sports, towing, and general purpose use on board boats. Spectra/Dyneema rope: These are high-performance ropes that are extremely strong and have low stretch properties. They are commonly used in racing boats and for high-load applications such as winch lines, halyards, and sheets. Manila rope: Manila rope is a natural fiber rope that is strong, durable, and resistant to UV rays and saltwater. It is commonly used in outdoor applications such as landscaping, marine, and agriculture. Polyester rope: Polyester rope is a strong, durable, and abrasion-resistant rope that is commonly used for general purpose use on board boats, including halyards, sheets, and mooring lines. The Port Huron to Mackinac Race on Lake Huron is quite well known here in the Great Lakes community. We were lucky to experience this race as first timers and were happy to kick some multihull butt! What a lot of sailors don't talk about is the immense amount of prep that goes into this race. Getting the boat to Port Huron on time, prepping all the food, getting vehicles to and from the finish line (that's 210nm from the start). We wanted to start off our videos of this race showing just a sliver of this stuff.

Hon håller alltid positiviteten uppe och peppar alla runt omkring sig i alla lägen. 🧡Roberta har ett stort hjärta och de ungdomar hon tränar lär sig inte bara om basket, utan även hur man ska behandla sina medmänniskor, både på och utanför basketplanen. Hennes sätt att lära ut är ett praktexempel på hur en bra ledare ska vara.
