Ostell Bay or Kames Bay This is part of our Secret Scotland series and we look at a true gem on the coast, it is generally quiet as the is limited parking and a mile walk into the bay. The Argyle is a secret coast that most folk pass on their way north missing some amazing spectacular things to see and do. We love to tie this with low tide to see the rock pools and walk along the sandy beach. The pools of water left behind heat up in the sun and make great places for children to play. In een paar mooie lange dagtochten zeil ik met Jord veel op de gennaker langs de Bretonse kust naar Les Sables d'Olonne. Wederom een zeilers hotspot. We krijgen een plaatsje aan de Vendee Globe steiger. Wat een feest. Jarenlang heb ik ervan gedroomd om zeilend te gaan waar de wind me brengt. In 2020 was het dan eindelijk zover en heb ik samen met Felia een prachtige reis gemaakt naar Scandinavië en de Baltische staten. Onze Eva, een Atlantic 43 uit 2007, is een aluminium zeiljacht met hefkiel en gebouwd en uitgerust voor reizen naar plaatsen die net achter de horizon liggen. Vanaf 2021 vaar ik met wisselende bemanning zuidwaarts. Ik vind het leuk om onze avonturen met jullie te delen. Multihull shout out to come and play with us next spring for a mega-Multihull Centre super event: We love nothing better than some friendly multihull racing and the social get-togethers in between. This year's Royal Western Yacht Club Triangle Race as always provided the perfect early season event for just this. With a stunning collection of 10 Multihull Centre boats it was an excellent mixed fleet with varied conditions and some changes of boats and crew as the days progressed. Boats included five Dazcats: 1495 Hissy Fit, 1195 Sueños, 1150 Bare Necessities, D10 Belladonna and D995 Easy Tiger. Also five other @Multihull Centre boats: The Le Rouge Adonante, The Shuttleworth Design Morpheus, The Farrier Twister, The Newick Trimaran Nemo and the Diam 24 one design Raygun. We also started out with D-1 (Darren Newton), but that's another story... Come and join us next year and help to make it a Multihull Centre super event: RWYC will also host the MOCRA Nationals as part of the regular Triangle event, adding some inshore races and an extra day. It'll be double everything - double fun, double, sailing, double the chance of winning a prize and double the socialising! There'll be three inshore races on Friday 29th April followed by a Mocra warm-up party at the RWYC Friday night. This then rolls into the traditional Triangle bank holiday weekend, racing along the stunning Cornish coast, with the usual socials along the way in Falmouth & Fowey and finished off with a Prize giving at the RWYC on Monday 2nd May at 1600. This episode's itinerary: Santa Cruz to Moss Landing Moss Landing and environs Moss Landing to Monterey Whatever you do; don't hit that unlit buoy in the middle of the channel! Single handed sailing is a tricky business. That green buoy is the Moss Landing Harbor "recommended track" buoy As it's name would suggest, it marks the track vessels should take when approaching the harbor entrance. Vessels are not expected to take this so literally as to nearly hit it. At night this buoy is unlit! This object, the size of a small car could present a major obstacle to navigation. To the unwary mariner, that is! On day 3, and so we say goodbye to Moss Landing. Hope to see you again in the not too distant future. It's a good day to try to sail the whole way to Monterey. The city of Monterey is named after the municipality in the Galicia region of Spain. The coastline is exposed to the full force of the prevailing north-westerly winds that blow for much of the year. These winds regularly reach 20 - 25 kts, with gusts in excess of 30 kts. This, combined with the full fetch of the ocean results in sizeable wind waves being superimposed on the even larger ocean swells coming down from the northern latitudes. As a result, things can get a bit lumpy. But we have no such challenges today. The water in Monterey Municipal Marina is exceptionally clear.

Passing Time During Gale... New Radar and VHF Installations | Sailing PILAR - Blue Dot Voyages During our 3 day wait during our Sailing trip during the November 2021 Gale, we tackled a couple of boat projects. No Friday Night Fun for us! Work...Work...Work. Watch the action here. 1. Our radar had been on and off spotty performance for over a year at least. After trying a new cable, and upgrading to Axiom Pro MFDs, we gave up and replaced our 6 year old Raymarine radar with the new Quantum2. SO worth it! This new radar rocks! LOVE the results! After hearing reports of our AIS position not transmitting correclty, we did some troubleshooting and discovered a VHF antennae was no longer transmitting correctly. So, we replaced that as well with a Shakespeare. If you go that route, just note that you will need a soddering gun so you don't have to make two trips to the store.
