If you sail or motor in saltwater, there are many parts of the world where you need to avoid crab pots, lobster pots, or fishing nets. Wendy's brother David shows up with his daughter Alex and niece Georgia for a week in the islands, and a great time was had by all. The islands of the USVI are often overshadowed by the brilliance and honestly superior cruising grounds of the British Virgin Islands, but over the last two seasons the officials of the BVI have seemed intent on killing the tourism industry there. As a result, almost every charter company has created a USVI affiliate in order to stay alive. And the USVI has so much to offer. Culturally, it's very similar to the BVI, largely populated by extended relatives of the same families, and there are a ton of nooks and crannies to explore. The vibe is different, especially on St John, due to overall management by the U.S. Park Service. We ended up staying in Puerto Rico for 4 days to wait for a weather window while recuperating from the trip and repairing the damage we had suffered. The final part of the trip to St. Martin was a lot more comfortable and we made it in time to celebrate Christmas. Every Easter it's the World OPTIS turn to turn the waters white. Usually around 1,100 young Opti Sailors fight it out for the Silverware. The Race Around, Class40’s official round-the-world offshore yacht race, has named La Rochelle as host city for its inaugral event in 2023. A location steeped in offshore sailing history, La Rochelle will become the home of The Race Around for the event’s start in September next year, and the return location for the 35 solo and double Class40 competitors in the early months of 2024. The 44Cup is ready to launch into 2022 stronger than ever with a full fleet of ten boats. The 2022 season will start where it left off in Lanzarote, hosted by the Calero Marinas, over 9 - 13 February. Following the season opener, the fleet will move on to one of the sailors favourite spots, Cascais, Portugal for event two over the 11 - 15 May. Em Ubatuba (SP), o Inaê Soto Amstel Ultra conquistou seu primeiro troféu na ORC velejando no Soto 40. Agora, o planejamento da equipe prevê uma pausa para ajustes do barco, com instrumentos de regata sendo arrumados, além de treinamentos do time realizados.
