This time we make huge progress towards finishing the epoxy work in our aft cabin by finishing the backing plates for the dyneema chainplate loops, building much stronger support for our mizzen mast foot and then continuing progress on the bilge drains around our new watertight battery box. I'm trying to get the epoxy work finished in the aft cabin before Jane comes for the weekend (especially as one of our sons is coming for a visit as well). We are refitting a 1977 Rival 38 Centre Cockpit Ketch for zero fossil fuel world cruising. #157 ✍️ La houle est pyramidale et avec ce peu d’air, grand-voile et genack se déventent dans chaque creux de vague. Le spi est bien plus adapté à la situation. Ce qui n’empêche que nous nous trainons ! D’un autre côté, nous n’allons pas nous plaindre. Cette redescente au portant était presque inespérée ! C’est un peu, voir beaucoup, ce qui est à l’origine de notre choix. Il faut bien comprendre que la prédominance des alizés est Est, Sud-est, et le nord prédit dans l’est des derniers jours était une aubaine pour retrouver une longitude plus sud. Mais comment favoriser telle ou telle destination ? C’est là toute la « problématique » du voyage en bateau, si on peut vraiment appeler cela « problématique » ! USA, Açores, Antilles, nous avons dut faire un tri décisif. Le visa B1B2 demandait pour les États-Unis étant, avec le Covid, long à obtenir, nous avons éliminé d’emblée cette option. Les Açores, quant à elles, nous ont quelque peu fait réfléchir, mais ce qui a fait peser la balance pour l’arc Antillais, soyons honnêtes, c’est notre fiston qui y arrive bientôt. C’est par ces faits que nous nous retrouvons avant la nuit tombée du 11 mai, à Mayaguana, l’île la plus orientale des Bahamas. Belle surprise ! Entre le vert des mangroves et le bleu du lagon, des tâches roses se meuvent. Ce sont des flamants ! Le panache de toutes ces teintes nous enchante comme des enfants. Je m’émerveille de tout, si bien que mon Tchoupi ne peut s’empêcher de railler mes exclamations permanentes ! Mais je n’y peux rien, c’est si beau ! Un kiosque coloré, une allée de cocotiers, une lagune argentée. Même quand le ciel se couvre, il y a de la splendeur. Les nuages semblent respirer, et puis, plus rien ! Pas un souffle, pas un bruit, pas une ride… Stand-by total avant le déluge. Les échassiers eux-mêmes se sont fait surprendre ! Les voilà en train de tirer des bords pour rentrer chez eux par 35 nœuds de vent constant. Le ciel est encore couvert, mais mon capitaine est confiant pour la soixantaine de milles qu’il nous reste à faire jusqu’à Great Inagua. Au bon plein 12 nœuds, tout va bien. Combien a-t-on de malchance dans l’immensité de l’océan, pour nous prendre un bout de deux mètres dans l’hélice de notre hydrogènerateur ? Franchement, nous aurions voulu le faire exprès, nous n’y serions pas arrivés ! C’est la dernière ! L’ultime escale Bahamienne ! Nous en aurons pour notre compte d’extase, de tranquillité, de paisibilité. Ceci dit, il faut se méfier des apparences. Cette thébaïde séduisante, renferme plus d’une embuscade ! Des troupes de diptères, de crabes, et pire que tout, de vampires insatiables, nous attaquent en traitres. L’odeur de nos corps dégoulinants de sueur, sous le soleil de plomb, doit les attirer. Il fait tellement chaud ! Les cotonniers bordent la piste qui n’en finit pas ! Nous sommes épuisés, ça en serait presque du supplice ! Tout ça pour voir de plus près des salines ! Cette éreintante excursion nous a aidé à réfléchir à notre prochain objectif. We arrived early in Ibiza and knew we could have some challenges related to the weather. It SAILING IN IBIZA was much harder than we TOUGHT. Patricia and Dave take Cavu to Offatts Bayou to celebrate their anniversary and participate in a charity vintage bathing suit competition benefiting the Historic Society. Patricia has wears a 1966 vintage paper dress to the cocktail party. Paper dresses were a trend for a few years in the mid 60's. Designed to be worn once or twice and then discarded, truly a different mind set then today. Her vintage bathing suit is a 1959 Jantzen that was designed and made in Hawaii. It features an International Jantzen tag because Hawaii wasn't a state until August of 1959. They test the newly installed Mantus Marine M2 anchor when an un-forecasted storm surprises them. On the return Cavu gets a new home.

The RYA shore based courses concentrate on the traditional navigational skills, obviously. But there is also a need to show students what's out there on the electronic front, what the programmes and apps a telling you and just how much you can rely on the equipment. Of course we always back everything up with a paper plot and treat with caution what the electronics tell us but it would be unrealistic to imagine that we don't rely on them quite heavily, because we do. So we had better understand what they can do and their limitations and that is what this video is aimed to do. In this episode we finally set sail to our berth where we will stay for the moment to know, learn and prepare the boat. A 9hrs sail with some strong wind..a challenging journey for the kids first sail. Short intro: After years of grief for my husband I've decided to change our home for a sailboat with ZERO experience...I'm just following my heart. I stay with my girls in The Netherlands where we at first will live on the boat untill my youngest will fly out..Then I will set sail. Der Burgenländische Yachtclub lud auch heuer zur Twilight Regatta am Neusiedler See ein. Trotz niedrigem Wasserstand wagten sich 20 gemeldete Boote an die Startlinie und konnten traumhafte Segelbedingungen genießen. Die Herausforderung bei dieser Regatta ist die Ausdauer. Denn eine Langstrecken Regatta über 24 Stunden, lässt die Augen schon mal schwer werden. Eins sei schon mal gesagt: alle Boote kamen auch sicher wieder im Hafen an. Wir freuen uns auf nächstes Jahr.
