I have now been based on the west bank of the river Tamar for 40 years. Either living on a boat or in a waterfront house. The River Tamar marks the natural boundary between Cornwall in the west, and Devon (or as we say it "England") to the east. The source of the Tamar is about 60 miles from the mouth and only 3 miles from the north coast, thus Cornwall is almost an island. The lower reaches, where I live, are dominated by Europe's biggest naval dockyard, Devonport, which was founded in 1690. Most visitors to Plymouth and the Tamar have no idea that just upstream from the Dockyard is a huge rural river system, navigable under sail for about 15 miles. I have posted many videos of me sailing various boats off the dockyard, but now here is one sailing my Chat 18 catamaran in the Tamar north of Plymouth. It was a windy day (I needed the reef) and I'm sailing between Weir Quay and the Saltash Bridges. North of Weir Quay the river narrows, but it is still sailable as far as Calstock - although, as I have found in the past, you do have to be careful of low, overhanging trees when short tacking! So this video starts with me hove to, just south of the moorings at Weir Quay, and then I sail south, past Cargreen to Landulph. From there the Tamar opens out to form a big sailing area bounded by in the west by Kingsmill Lake (the small creeks of the Tamar are called "lakes") and to the east by the river Tavy and its low fixed railway bridge. One day soon we will go under that in Chat (more of a challenge than it looks, as we will have to lower the mast while underway) and venture up the Tavy. We can then sail almost as far as Buckland Abbey, originally an Abbey, then home to St Francis Drake. We will certainly stop for lunch at the great waterside pub in Bere Ferrers. More on that another time. And then south to the Saltash mooring field and bridges, which you have seen before. A great afternoon's sail! More on the Chat 18 here https://www.sailingcatamarans.com/index.php/designs-2/2-catamarans-under-25ft/475-chat-18-daysailing-catamaran See my 200+ other videos here https://www.youtube.com/user/WoodsDesigns

We leave the Cabo de Gata and the Costa del Sol and sail to Aguilas on the Costa Blanca. We are now officially in the Mediterranean Sea. Aguilas was great. We had a bay all to ourselves with a great sunrise. We walked through the city and visited El Castillo de San Juan. Afterwards we sailed to La Azohia and walked to the Torre de Santa Elena. Later we had a long slow sail to Punte de la Cala with a view on Allicante. Hope you enjoy this one! A look at the '22 Leopard 50 from the perspective of a man trying to convince his beautiful wife that a circumnavigation would be a VERY good thing to do as a retirement project, so if you are a serious sailer, PLEASE be gentle with me.

Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. @Barefoot Doctors Sailing - Come Barefoot with us as we make our first night crossing as we are sailing in the dark on our new Leopard 45 sailing catamaran, Expedition Barefoot. We share all the excitement of preparing for the crossing and the practicalities of managing the boat through the night.... We sail from Villefranche near Nice in the south of France to Calvi in Corsica, a distance of 95 miles. Most of the trip we sail with the Code 0 up doing 5-7 knots in 7-11 knots of wind, usually doing about 2 knots below wind speed which is really good for a 15 tonne 45 foot cruising boat. The insurance fiasco is looking more and more ominous as the lawyers fight for our claim as we go deeper into trying and get some money back... Binge watch and come barefoot with us as we travel and explore the planet, mostly from the water but sometimes through the minds of others as we provide aid and support where needed through the amazing TUFMINDS solutions! WHAT IS TUFMINDS The free TUFMINDS program is released as a smartphone program under the Exqisit Life Foundation Charity, a registered not for profit and requires financial support to fund the free program. TUFMINDS saves lives by intervening at the point of suicide and pulling everyone to higher levels of mental resilience, wellbeing and functioning. it also creates better attitudes, resilience and coping - all very important for sailors facing difficult situations at sea. @Barefoot Doctors Sailing Donations to the charity to support Suicide Prevention with the free TUFMINDS program can be made at: https://shoutforgood.com/charities/ex... After waiting a week for a small weather window to head south, we bash into the strong wind and waves before stopping at Red Cliff Point on Bernier Island. Finally is some calm water we find lots of sharks and rays swimming in the shallows. Waking up early to a very strong south easterly wind we crash our way over the breaking waves to deeper water escaping the exposed bay before getting shelter at Herald Bay. After several days of pounding into the waves we had an opportunity to fix a few problems in calmer water. Finally we arrive at Monkey Mia where we are disappointed to find that the dolphins are a no show. WHO ARE WE? We’re Chris and Jo and we have been living on our Seawind 1260 since January 2019. In our first year we bring our yacht down the east coast of Australia and sail it out to New Caledonia. After cruising further north up the east coast of Australia in 2020, we decide to circumnavigate Australia during 2021 and 2022. We had previously owned fishing and water skiing boats, but after a couple years crewing in South Australia we decided to jump right in and make a sea change. We are just an ordinary Aussie couple exploring what this great world has to offer and hope that we can inspire others just as we were by watching other YouTube channels to follow our dreams. #sharkbay #monkeymia #circumnavigationaustralia #seawind1260 #seawindcats
