Estamos ya navegando en la Ruta de los Grandes Faros 2022 a bordo del Quinto Real, rumbo al Oeste. Una vez más, la historia se repite al paso por los puertos de Cantabria. En esta ocasión, todavía es peor: en San Vicente de la Barquera no nos permiten ni siquiera desembarcar a tripulantes para depositar las basuras, hacer provisión de pan, gas y otras cosas necesarias, cuando ya llevamos tres días sin tocar tierra. El Guardamuelles de Puertos de Cantabria, nos trata con desprecio y sin ninguna consideración, no ofreciendo ninguna alternativa para desembarcar en ningún punto del puerto. Esta vez esto es la gota que colma el vaso y llamamos a la Guardia Civil para que intervengan en la toma de datos para la posterior denuncia que efectuamos en la primera localidad de Asturias en la que podemos desembarcar... Seawind is bucking around in the waves kicked up by winds that came through the vast, unprotected, and desert-like anchorage of Mackie Shoal, causing Katy and I to depart before dawn. Our destination is the southern Berry Islands. As night becomes day, we enjoy a gentle breeze on our beam, one of Seawind's favorite points of sail. We try fishing for the first time with no luck and swim around our boat, seemingly floating in bath water! We proceed to anchor in two different spots at Bird Cay, and during the two nights we are here, we don't get much sleep because what the heck is surge?! And it seems to get worse at night?? Join us as we embark on our very first sail in the Pacific Ocean. We depart from Playita Marina located just outside Panama Canal and set our waypoint for Punta Mala (Bad point), a point with a confluence of strong currents, notoriously rough in high winds. Luckily for us the Pacific is living up to its name and we have nice chill conditions. As the sun is setting and we are eating dinner we notice a large Sierra Mackerel has grabbed our line. We are already impressed with the wildlife present in the Pacific Ocean. We have seen many sea birds as well as dolphins. Conditions are so chill that we opt to keep going, adding another 150 miles to our trip. This will put us within striking distance of Costa Rica. Nach einer schweren Krebserkrankung starte ich einen Neuanfang im Leben. Ich nehme mir eine unbefristete Auszeit unter Segeln und mache einen Segeltörn mit meiner Segelyacht, einer Bavaria 37 Cruiser, Richtung Mittelmeer und vielleicht noch viel weiter... komm mit und begleite mich zu den schönsten Spots der Welt, der Segeltörn führt über die Nordsee, durch den Ärmelkanal, die Normandie zur Bretagne und von da über die Biscaya. In dieser Episode segele ich über die Nordsee von Schveningen/Holland nach Blankenberge in Belgien. Sehr entspannt!

In dieser Folge Sailing Scirocco, machte ich mich nun endlich auf den Weg nach Korfu und stoppte für fünf Tage in Montenegro. Leider lief nicht alles so Rund. So stoppte mich die Grenzpolizei und zwang mich zur Rückfahrt! Nach einer wirklich ewig langen Fahrt, erreichte ich, erschöpft, doch noch mein Ziel Kotor. On April 12th, Deb and I celebrated our 30th anniversary. Deb booked this lovely little cabin secluded in the woods in the mountains in Georgia. Tja, nun ist die Saison 2020 zu Ende und die Bruty wird aus ihrem Element gekrant und erhält ihr Winter-Wellness-Programm. Bevor sie an Land gestellt wird, werden aber noch einige Arbeiten durchgeführt. Die Pumpe der Toilette muss ausgetauscht werden. Die Ventile unseres Volvo-Penta-Motors werden eingestellt und ein Ölwechsel darf auch nicht fehlen. Viel Spaß beim Schauen! June 23rd. The final race of Series 1 saw a change up on the course configuration for the J70s and J80s (we like it!). And an exciting finish in the J24s. Lightning start from the drone was exciting too!

C'est en famille que Vendredi lève l'ancre pour la Dominique. Une première petite traversée pour nos deux équipiers ! Malheureusement, ce n'était pas une traversée facile pour une première... Heureusement que la récompense est au bout de l'étrave ! Après cette journée un peu musclée, nous arrivons à Portsmouth, au nord de la Dominique. C'est la que nous laisserons Vendredi avec ses nombreux compagnons de mer, pour partir à la rencontre des locaux et découvrir le joyau brut qu'est cette île !

I caught Covid, so not much of an update

This week we are sailing to Santorini (a life volcano!) Join our boat life as we sail to one of the most beautiful islands in Greece (Agean Sea). We are getting ready to anchor but anchoring in a volcano caldera is not that easy. If you like to be part of our journey, please consider becoming a Patreon @ https://www.patreon.com/svcuba Just as we arrive to the island the wind increases and we are having a marvellous sail into the crater. The wind tends to just drop down the steep cliffs making it a great place to sail. We lose track of time and don’t could not find an anchorage right in the middle of the crater between the small islands where nothing grows. But Enrique actually finds us a mooring so we can get some sleep. We have been told there is no way to anchor a sailboat on the island and it is only possible to find mooring balls. All the other areas inside drop sharply to several hundred meters so the next day we try to find an anchorage one more time. The island of Santorini is just so much more than the perfect Instagram spot. The views up the dark cliffs are spectacular but we cannot wait to see the view from the rooftops of Thera. The next day we sail all around the rugged island, past a chocolate coloured beach and finally find a spot to leave our sailboat for the day. The island has so much to offer but we only have little time before the Meltemi winds return and our anchorage is exposed. However, we manage to explore the picturesque white streets and catch the sunset from in between the blue rooftops. Santorini wasn’t initially on our radar, but the wind convinced us to give this popular tourist attraction a chance and we were not disappointed. Just a walk through town left us absolutely speechless and we can only recommend not to miss this beauty of the Cyclades if you have the chance. No matter if you come by plane, take a ferry or charter a boat in Santorini you will not be able to keep your eyes off of the amazing steep, dark cliffs, the seemingly carved white villages and deepest dark-blue seas surrounding the caldera. We are Enrique (Kiki) from Cuba and Sarah (Salsa) from Germany, a sailing couple. We are living on a boat, our tiny house, creating a travel vlog as we sail around the world. We have almost zero sailing experience, but are determined to circumnavigate & share our adventures with you.
