@SailingKawai This week we begin our journey in Marmaris Turkey where we anchor off Marmaris town while waiting for our friends to arrive from Australia. We explore Marmaris before setting sail for the tranquil bay called Ekincik Bay. It's 20nm from Marmaris and we are fortunate to receive some great winds and sail the entire trip. To celebrate the time with friends we enjoy some Raki, swim, play some cards and then head out to a local restaurant which is a lot of fun. We are also fortunate to spot many turtles in the bay which is fantastic. We head off early and catch some more consistent winds on route to Gocek. The sail is 40nm and we use the time listening to music and catching up. We had visited Gocek previously as this is where we purchased Kawai in 2018. We are excited to return and look forward to seeing good friends. We anchor off Gocek town in the bay between the 6 marinas. Gocek is extremely busy with hundreds of mega yachts lining the bay. Gocek is a beautiful place with amazing restaurants lining the shore. We explore the town with our friends Damien and Nicole before exploring the hills behind Gocek. We decide to visit the famous Yuvarlakçay Defne Restaurant a 45 minute taxi ride from Gocek. We are not disappointed and love every second of our time. About us: Our names are Jason and Tracey and we traded our house, cars, business, job and security for freedom, adventure, travel and living simply amongst nature and the seas on our 45 foot Hanse 445 sailing boat, Kawai. We don't know exactly where the winds will take us at this stage but over the last couple years we have sailed to Turkey, Greece, Montenegro, Croatia. Jase loves making travel videos and we decided to upload to youtube to share our adventure. We really hope you enjoy and feel free to drop us a comment any time to chat or subscribe to follow along :) Instagram Jason: https://www.instagram.com/jase_stephe... Preparations Departure for NL: 15.00 hours Weather: sunny, cloudy late afternoon Wind: 12-18 kts SW In particular, we prepare this day for our departure to the Netherlands. The crossing over the North Sea to Vlieland is 235 miles. Quite a bit. So we check the wind again, which according to all weather models should become westerly and later NW from 15.00 onwards. We check with our nautical friends what their stance is on GTL diesel, as that is the only thing available in Thyboron, as we would like to top up the WJ anyway. We decide to do the same just before departure. Other than that, we prepare grab fodder, make tea and seafast everything. Eat a hot meal and check the rigging. At 15.00 we go outside. Just before a shower (very handy ...hahaha). We set the sails in the bowl before sailing out. Unfortunately, the wind is not yet westerly enough, so we have to sail a course out to ‘gain height’ and that is quite against high waves, so we have to use the engine. So we are already shaking nicely. And....a bow-plank does not survive. After 2 hours, we turn around and can sail slightly better high to the course. We more or less immediately start the 3 o'clock on and 3 o'clock off watch routine and Patty goes to sleep first, as she was up a bit too early that morning and hadn't taken a nap in between..... And so we sail into the night with, unfortunately, the engine on because the wind is insufficient and the waves too high for comfortable sailing. Patty is still having some trouble coping well with the WJ's lurching behaviour. As the night progresses, the engine can finally be turned off. The wind becomes more favourable (westerly), so the WJ, despite the waves, reaches speeds of between 5 and 7 knots entirely on sail. Fine! The high waves remain, however, so we roll off a bit. We are accompanied by a white Jan van Gent throughout the sail, by the way. We sleep in our bed during non-watch times and that really makes all the difference. We don't eat hot food, but we live on constant nibbles like biscuits, carrots, apples, bananas and crackers throughout the trip. We hardly meet, except at watch handovers, where we update each other on course and any particulars. Not much happens, as it is a quiet course with no traffic systems. In the night, Patty is called by a guard-ship to ask if we want to sail around a ship that is doing a cable repair. During the night the wind picks up tremendously to in the 20 knots. We are happy about it because the WJ is in her humour. She is spinning around 9 kts of speed and so the waves are better cut too. We are happy that the promised wind is taking us nicely forward. Real sailing. Towards morning, the wind became very calm, that too according to the forecast....the sea also became a lot smoother with it and we like that too, because we are approaching the traffic systems over the Wadden Islands and they are always challengingly crowded. In the watches, it works out that Robin takes care of both systems and Patty the 20 miles in between (easy!). Root is busy, but also finds it a welcome change from the hitherto ‘uneventful’ pace. The wait for the barges (because those big merchant/container ships have priority) eventually causes us an hour's delay. We note a small tear in the ‘sunbrella edge’ of the jib due to some chafing against the spread during the calmer winds anyway. Not shocking, but does require attention. And so there is a board loose on the bowsprit from high wave biting on departure. Also not insurmountable. Patty, incidentally, gets a little more sleep time during the voyage to recover a bit from (consequences) of the hangover. So the morning to Vlieland, the last 40 miles, are quiet and calm and the sun rises beautifully. The Jan van Gent greets us again. In the sunshine, we sail to Vlieland.....and take a ‘we-are-there-selfie’. When we call the harbour, there is an enthusiastic response to the WJ's arrival. She is a familiar ship and gets her ‘familiar spot’ in front of the harbour office. As we sail in, fatigue still appears to take a small toll as we scrape off some paint...so be it. We'll fix it tomorrow. We spend the rest of the day cleaning up, walking along the beach to beach bar ‘Oost’ for a drink and a snack and on board reading, watching Max's race, sitting in the sun and, of course, enjoying all the ships entering the harbour. In particular, the steering skills of the brown fleet always has our admiration. We then have dinner at Dining and are in bed by 11pm....
Singlehanded for the first time. Sailing offshore about 2 miles up to 7.6kts SOG in 12-15kts true. Headed back after an exciting 3 hour tour. Fun!

We have had the Havaseas, our Nordhavn 55, for just over a year. We plan to explore Canada this winter/spring. We have been exploring Nanaimo as we stop there often. This time we needed to repair our davit and Nanaimo had a shop that could make us the parts. We stayed at the Nanaimo Yacht Club during this stop. These are our adventures, how we live and where we go. It turns out my brochure wasn't the historical walking tour, but a brochure for a walking app. It is a very cool idea. Here is the Nanaimo link, but the app can be downloaded on your phone and used in other cities as well. https://www.onthisspot.ca/cities/nanaimo Nanaimo, B.C. Nothing exciting here, just a leisurely stroll on some forest roads - getting familiar with riding the bike after a long hiatus. It's been a while, but I'm alive and well! Spinal cord injuries are a real bastard, but luckily I've recovered well enough to be able to ride again. Life's good.

Team Pestou singlehandedly helmed his F-24 MKII Trimaran to second place in the first 40NM stage of the 2022 Race to Alaska (R2AK) in conditions that left several other boats capsized or disabled and in need of rescue. He began the second 650NM stage strong as well, leading the sailing fleet through the Gulf Islands, and finding himself second only to Malolo's much faster trimaran. Unfortunately he struck several logs overnight, which damaged his boat, and led him to retire from the race. We travel all the way to Vietnam to check out the Max Cruise Marine work yard. Join us as we travel from our marina all the way to Ho Chi Minh City. Our hotel is a beautiful spot on the river, but we don't actually spend much time there. It was right off to the Max Cruise Factory to see all the work being done there. It was overwhelming when we walked in, there was so much happening everywhere! After a walk through the factory, we show the progress of how these catamarans are built, starting with Hull 10, which was just getting infused. Then we stroll through hulls 9, 8, 7, and finally 6 - and see projects that we've already completed and ones that are still a long way off. We have 2 more Vietnam episodes after this, but we hope you enjoy this introduction to the Max Cruise factory!! We hope you enjoy! Much love from Annapolis! We're Alejo and Andrea, a Colombian / American couple in love with adventuring and exploring the ocean. We previously lived in a converted travel trailer as we explored the best kitesurfing spots of North America, and now we're living in our off-grid sailboat while managing our online business as digital nomads. We're now sailing the Caribbean as we explore the best of this blue planet by kiteboarding, free diving, scuba diving, and fishing. ⛵ Our goal here is to inspire you to chase after your own dreams! We hope to create a community of like-minded, positive individuals who will grow to love and support one another on their own journeys. Music: ►
EP 211: Rum comes from here? | How Caribbean Rum is Made After situating ourselves on anchor in Hartman Bay, we headed off to Grande Anse beach for a swim. It was so good to be back in warm Caribbean waters. We headed off to Young Cruisers Association meet up and got to meet alot of younger cruisers like us. We headed off on a scooter trip with Joel, Dave & Lance where we ended up exploring a few rum factories and learnt how rum was made. What an interesting fact.. that rum actually originated in the West Indies with it being first recorded in Barbados. We also found a pretty solid mooring ball for Lady Africa while we fly off.. In this episode Pippi gets back into the saddle - she has her first kite surfing lesson since her accident and with a 4m kite and her little seat harness she gives it a red hot go but the winds are light and fickle making it tricky for her. We then install our iridiumGO! aerial to help with satellite communications while at sea. The aerial had previously been installed but unfortunately the prior owner advised us that it had been violently ripped from the deck by stray lines near the traveller. Needless to say we were hesitant to install it in the same spot but there are limited options onboard Happy Days and moving it slightly further away from the traveller will be the best position for our boat. See how this enables us to have more direct contact with the sky and how it all connects to the iridiumGO! unit. We also give you a brief rundown on how the iridiumGO! unit is then used with our mobile device for phone calls, messages, email and also predict wind forecasts while at sea. 183: BOAT PROJECTS WE CAN DO - Replace the main halyard, protect hatch covers and our engine hatches
This video shows you some of the boat projects we completed while at the dock awaiting our new alternator and the welding of our fuel tanks. We hope you enjoy it! SHOWN: Installing a new main halyard, putting on hatch covers, re-attached a no skid top to our engine hatches #sailing #sailboat #sailingprojects NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. Hopefully, you will be as BLOWN AWAY from watching, as we are in experiencing and producing our adventures! HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT US? If you wish to support our video efforts, all we ask is that you SUBSCRIBE, give a THUMBS UP, SHARE our videos with your friends, AND COMMENT! WOULD YOU LIKE TO GET TO KNOW US MORE DEEPLY? We didn't get enough of Conception Island during our last short visit, so we couldn't resist as this paradise Island beckoned to us all the way from Cat Island. We weighed anchor and sailed back to explore the beaches, mangroves, reefs and stunning features of this isolated nature reserve. No phones, no internet, just beauty all around us. We sail south to Conception Island, where we anchor at the southern end of West Bay, right beside a beautiful reef we want to visit, but not with the cat! We finally get to see the mangroves Tardis and Osiris told us about when we were here last. Unfreaking real, but both of the cameras we brought do some interesting failing, so we lose a lot of footage. No worries though, there's lots left, and we'll just have to go back for more. The other side of the island includes the beach we saw last time, but now we really take our time and film this wonderful shoreline in exquisite detail for you. We think this beautiful nature preserve deserves a long ambient video to really enjoy the stunning features that abound. What do you think? Should we create an ambient video? Should we put it to music to seal the vibe? There's no way to understand the allure of Conception Island without actually experiencing it.
