After looking at both monohulls and catamarans in the 50 - 55 foot range at the Cannes Boat Show, we made our choice of which boat to buy. We did a lot of online research then decided all the boats of interest would be at the Cannes Festival of Sails, hence we flew over from Australia to do our hands on research. We’re looking for a new boat to cruise the world in as a couple with family and friends joining us along the way. Having cruised the equivalent of 2 laps of the globe and with over 10 years of living on boats, we had pretty strong views on what we did and didn’t like. We decided we liked the idea of a catamaran, but didn’t want to give us on the luxuries we’d had on our Discovery 55 (which was a high end mono hull). We then we’re looking for the best of the cats and really short listed it to the Outremer 55 and the HH52 by HH Catamarans.

This is a walk through of the Outremer 55 which was high up on our short list of boats to buy. This boat ended up as our runner up as our next boat to sail around the world in.

HH Catamarans had a model of the HH52 at Cannes. We found this really helpful to see given that the first of these is yet to be built. The lines and layout look fantastic!!!! Love it.

This is our walkthrough of the HH50 catamaran at the Cannes Boat Show. We really liked this boat, but felt it was a bit dated. The new HH52 with this boats quality and finish together with modern styling and tech made sense.

This is our walk around on the Balance 48 catamaran at the 2022 Cannes Boat Show. It’s lots of little bits of video put together showing bits we did and didn’t like. These videos were really made to remind us of each boat as we looked at them.

We did a tour through the Neel 43 as our friends have ordered one. I wasn’t expecting to like it as much as I did. This is a bit of a different level of boat to the ones we’re looking at, but certainly very impressive. Some really different thinking…..

We walked through both the Amel 50 and the Amel 60 at the Cannes Boat Show. I took a handful of short bits of video as we walked through and now put all the pieces into one video just to give an idea of what we’d seen. Some nice details in this boat. It’s certainly a very sensible choice for cruising the world.

We walked through the Contest 55 at the Cannes Boat Show and were really impressed. It’s a very nice boat and on a similar league to our old Discovery 55.

This underwater drone inspection was conducted with a Chasing M2 submersible, requested by the owner to assess the underwater condition prior to selling. The boathouse is located in Nanaimo, British Columbia, and features two 30 foot boat slips in one building along with a fully furnished suite on the top floor. It features a rare otter-deterring barrier in one of the slips, designed to prevent otters from entering the boathouse and fouling the boat and docks inside. This barrier also serves to protect the underside of a boat from growth, as it limits current and sunlight the two biggest factors for fostering sea life. Overall the underwater portion of the boathouse was found to be in excellent condition, with all of the heavy-duty styrofoam floats being intact with only moderate growth. Also all load-bearing sections of the structure were reinforced with sealed air-filled 55-gallon drums, also with only moderate growth. We are grateful we made the decision to leave, but our thoughts are still with all our friends and people of Puerto Rico as they face a long road of recovery ahead. Our lives are dictated by weather, something we rarely paid attention to before we got Saoirse. Rain, wind, storms, were just minor inconveniences in our day to day. Before departing the last of the Marquesas islands and sailing to our first Tuamotus island, we enjoy our last few land excursions by having a beautiful hike to a very tall waterfall. It wasn’t the biggest in the amount of water, but it was very tall and surrounded by amazingly beautiful scenery! Then we depart early in the morning for a three day day to our first Tuamotus Island called Raroia. It was a great sail and during it we landed several large tuna, the last of which was an absolute monster, estimated at weighing over 100 pounds! Mit Korsika erreichen wir das vierte Land auf unserem Törn durchs Mittelmeer: Frankreich. Zuvor mischen wir aber noch den Rolex Maxi Cup vor Porto Cervo auf, erkunden das La Maddalena-Archipel, um schließlich Freunde aus Sankt Peter-Ording auf Korsika zu treffen. Aus dem Kurzbesuch werden zehn Tage, denn immer wieder brist es ordentlich auf. Und so verbringen wir alleine vier Tage in Bonifacio - entspannte und interessante Tage.
